"Hugo" is a fascinating, poignant film that is brilliantly executed in every regard. The story, acting, cinematography, costumes, evocation of period atmosphere and music all reflect artistry of the highest order. All these are in service of a story that is at once moving, romantic, informative, playful and exciting.
This film would be rewarding in any format but I highly recommend the experience of Martin Scorsese's striking use of 3D to evoke depth and detail. This far surpasses any other 3D movie experience I've had and renews my sense that 3D can make a meaningful contribution to the heart and soul of a movie.

Hugo was the first SD movie I have seen and it was a very enjoyable and interesting experience. The movie itself - the story, acting and special effects - was very good and I would give it a comfortable 4 stars.

Saw the movie in 3D - and glad I did. The attention to detail in all the scenes was great - as well as the different camera angles and the pace of script delivery by the main characters. A visual delight to behold and an entertaining event that did not require "blood and guts", violence, or profanity to make it a great move. A children's movie only?? Hell NO!! People of all ages can and should enjoy this movie.

After seeing two losers in a row, Warhorse and Tree of Life, it was wonderful to see such a magical movie. I saw the 3D version, but don't think it was necessary. The story was wonderful and acting great as well, especially the kids. I would highly recommend for both adults and children.

A wonderful movie, and it should be seen in 3D. Good for young and old. Sasha Baron Cohen is out of place and rediculous as usual, but the rest of it fits nicely.
