I enjoyed this film because the acting was super and I enjoy history. I did not know much about King George and his situation. There was not much in this film that says you need to see this in the movies as opposed to waiting for it to come out on DVD or Blu-Ray. If you enjoy seeing movies first before most people do and you like to understand why this is Oscar worthy, by all means see it. Otherwise, I would wait for the home release after it plays out in the movies.

Absolutely amazing. I expected to be bored throughout the movie, but it captured the movie the entire time. One of the finest films I have seen in years. I can see why it has been nominated for so many awards. The story and acting was superb.

Many of the raves of other users on this site seem a little over-the-top to me, but this is a decent movie, well acted, well scripted. And it is a reasonably interesting story, made more so by it's historical aspect. I didn't leave the movie disappointed. However, with movies that I would consider truly great, I generally leave with a sense of awe or suprise, or I find myself going over various scenes in my mind and finding new levels. It is that sort of response that might prompt me to see it again. That didn't happen with this one. So, don't expect anything that will make you think, but watch and enjoy anyway.

I can only hope that the 'Academy Awards' gets it right this time. Although they don't live on the same planet as the rest of us, on occasion they do 'get it'. This movie should win several oscars, including Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor and definitely Best Picture. A wonderful story that really draws you in and the best movie out of Britain since Chariots of Fire.

Colin Firth displayed the restrained dignity of a "royal" with grace and poignancy, while simultaneously and believably revealing the utter humanity of his character. This is a fantastic step back in history that serves to show us all just how like the rest of us the monarchy is. George was subject to abuse and mistreatment but still became the man who saw Britain through WWII. Very inspiring and surprisingly comical.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Aside from the great acting by Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush in particular (I think both deserve Oscars), as well as the rest of the cast, the direction was great, the pace of the film was great, the period feel was exacting, the music supported moments in the film very well. It was an important moment in history, brought to life in an excellent film. I was well aware of the history, including how important "The Speech" was for Britain at the start of WWII, but this brought it to life in a very personal way.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
