Remarkable film. The acting in indisputably solid as a now more mature Colin Firth joins with the ever effective Geoffrey Rush in a sensitive, sometimes humorous and well directed story. Firth creates a sympathetic, stuttering monarch and keeps up a electric relationship with Rush's character. Great! Even the music is effective as the 2nd. movement of Beethoven's 7th. sympthony builds up as the tension of Firth's attempt to give the speech builds. His pauses and speech are so directed, that his speech actually ends almost exactly when the movement is done. That is really creative direction. I found myself noticing the music throughout the film-it was well chosen to enhance the desired effects of acting and direction. A definite "must see".

The King's Speech is a remarkable movie. The acting was absolutely superb. The screenplay was marvelous, and the filming brilliant.
As it exhibits a family dynamic amidst a royal family, it engages viewers from every walk of life, reminding us that we all have our own challenges and importantly, moments in life that define us.
I am perplexed that this movie is rated R, as the use of expletives is integral to the Prince's ability to cope with his disability, and is no way used in any context other than simply words.
This movie should be seen by every child/teen capable of understanding it, as it is uplifting, historically important, and thought-provoking about impairments and their potential sources.

Can't say enough good things about the cast and the production as a whole. This is one of the better films I've experienced in a dozen years.
It was entertaining, enlightening and such a feel good movie. Other than the obvious abusive relationship told in the story - and seen between parents and son - there were far too many bright spots to even count. The Queen Mum was cast and played superbly. She is portrayed exactly as I imagined her to be. The King/Colin was a surprise at ever turn. Perhaps because his role in history (the history I learned) wasn't as large as his brother's - who married an American/Simpson.(The brother David was also cast and portrayed beautifully. What an awful, selfish and empty suit he was!!! Great performance.) Perhaps I slept through that part of our history lesson. Whichever the case, Colin played his role so superbly that if he doesn't win an Oscar, it will confirm my suspicion that the people who vote are a bunch of twits. The part of "doctor"...simply the best. Held my breath when he became familiar with the Duke, as he broke protocal consistently throughout. Loved it! Who else would have dared?
Awesome movie that I will recommend to my friends and family - even those who normally wait for it to come out in a DVD! So glad I didn't wait!

Excellent ensemble cast with superb portrayals of George V, Lionel, Edward VIII and even the prime ministers. For history buffs, it's a slice of the late 30s that most of us were not aware of. To have a speech impediment is difficult. To have a speech impediment and be the King in line for the throne of a nation is another story. This is what "The King's Speech" is about. Colin Firth plays England's Prince Albert who is soon to be King George VI. Prince Albert has a crippling speech impediment that has never been addressed. Prince Albert needs to be able to address his country and his people when he accepts the crown. Prince Albert's wife Elizabeth (Helena Bonham Carter) hires a speech therapist/Australian Actor named Lionel Logue to help rid the future king of his speaking/speech problems. The story unfolds from there... The movie is very well done. Colin Firth shows his acting range. He deserves the Oscar nod he received. The Cinematography was beautiful.

Wonderful to see a movie with real substance that shows the rewards of perseverance, honor and character....without special effects or violence. Colin Firth was superb in a challenging role which he played with such subtle expressions in many scenes - it was brilliant. The rest of the cast was superb too. King's speech is a simple plot with historical facts compacted around two men. Most Americans never knew of the existence of this "friend" of King George. Wonderful score. Lovely acting, simple scenes and yet everything pulling toward the tension of the nazi threat and THE Speech. Truly wonderful and a good antidote to all the crash, bang, switch scenes with head spinning speed. The pacing is like a play.

This was one of the best movies we have seen in a very long time. The actors were all very well cast and played their roles to perfection. As a serious film, this is the finest film I have ever seen. The acting was superb. Colin Firth has finally entered into his own. Geoffrey Rush was his equal. It was a somewhat interesting story, and the acting was excellent, but I guess I just wasn't that interested in the trials and tribulations of someone born into royalty. Yes, he had an issue, and yes he overcame it, but it certainly wasn't a real-world experience. I just had a difficult time empathizing with the prince/king. Also, the first half moved rather slowly.

Great movie, well written and well cast! I was engrossed in the story and the historical background made it even more interesting! If you can only see 1 movie this year, make it this one. A very uplifting story for anyone who has overcome adversity!
