I actually yelled Bravo as a good portion of the huge crowd stood up and clapped at the end of this extraordinary movie. I have never said that at a movie before. The King's Speech is what movie making is all about. Character study inspired by true events. This movie is guaranteed two Oscars in my opinion. Best Picture and Best Actor Colin Firth. Geoffrey Rush was equally as good, but this was Colin Firth's movie all the way. The whole cast was splendid. What a movie!!!

it is rare for me to enter a theater and totally forget the real world because I've been transported to a new one where I am completely engrossed in the story before me. Colin Firth was utterly believable as the reluctant king who stepped up to the plate in numerous ways when his country needed him. His pride, his stubbornness, and his fears were so very real to me that they brought me to laughter and tears during the film. Geoffrey Rush's performance was also impeccable as the strong mentor/friend who strove to help "Bertie" understand and overcome his disorder. Everything about this movie was a win-win for me.

When I saw the trailer for this I was not at all interested, but decided to see it after the glowing reviews and recommendations of friends. Needless to say, the trailers are not doing this movie justice. It is OUTSTANDING and a must see!

"The King's Speech" was an amazing portrayal of King George VI and was such a fantastic bit of acting. To play someone with a stammer when you have no stammer yourself, is real art! This movie follows history very well. though rated R (I assume for language) I would recommend this movie for those 12 and older because it does represent history so accurately. Very enjoyable. Made us want to come home and do research.

I found the acting to be fabulous. I can understand why the nominations for actors, especially for Colin Firth and hopefully for the actor who plays the part of the speech therapst. Terrific acting by Firth and Rush. The director did a great job creating intense suspense within a situation where none of the characters was in any physical danger (uncommon in movies these days). Some very funny moments as well. Overall a fantastic job.

A great movie that is based on a true story. If this is playing near you, you must see it. This has a few funny parts that were funnier than the entire movie, "The Dilemma". This movie has it all. Outstanding actors, great script, costuming, directing, etc. I could see this movie again and most likely will. It left me wanting the story to continue. The Brits should be proud that the Queen Mum's censorship of this story is no longer an issue. This is a story that should be heard everywhere. I wish there was a G-rated, school-appropriate version that could be shown in public schools. There are several great lessons to be learned here. I was pleased to see Helena Bonham Carter in a role that showed me a different side to her acting. Before this movie, my opinion of her skill was not that high. If there was one criticism I had, it was that the chemisty between the actors selected for the roles of Prince David and Wallace Simpson was not believable. They could have convinced us that there was more to their relationship than him being led around by the nose.

Really fine acting by Firth and Pearce, who hold your attention when they are on screen, as well as by Bonham Carter (although her role is limited to the always sympathetic and supportive wife; not much depth or complexity there). There are hints that George the Vth was a harsh father, a cold, unsympathetic mother, and an older brother a bit of a cad, a stern, cold mother -- all probably causes of the stutter. Toward the end the story descends into a rather nationalistic fervor, the nation unified around the new king because he can finally give a public speech. Perhaps that appeals to some Americans these days of harsh political division, but it rather deflates the movie itself.

'The King's Speech' makes you feel like part of the royal family. Charged performances by Firth, Carter, and Rush really make this movie a must-see. Although those who lived it may feel less drama from the speech, we as an audience are gifted to witness not only the oration but the difficulty it took for one man to declare his views during the World War-era.

This movie is absolutely amazing! Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush’s performance were impeccable. If this movie doesn’t win “Best Picture,” “Best Actor,” and “Best Supporting Actor” then there is not justice in this world. There is something in this film for everybody and I would highly recommend it for those who want quality entertainment and inspiration.
