This movie is totally enjoyable; I did not want it to end and I want to see it again and again. The acting is superb. Colin Firth plays a bird in a gilded cage with great range and the perfect balance of anger, angst, bitterness, humanity, pathos, royal priggishness, deep feelings, and caring for his family and nation as the prince and then the king. The rest of the cast are all great. Pearce as King Edward plays a small but incredibly good part as the flamboyant and self centered character as the emotional foil to his younger brother. The whole as put together by director Hooper is a wonderful and beautiful thing to watch.

I really enjoyed this movie. From start to finish it never dragged, moving right along.
Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush were phenomenal, giving an unforgettable performance.
The movie is based on a completely true story, and most Americans including myself are only casually knowledgeable of the events covered in the movie.
The King's Speech completely entertains and provides detail to the events.
I cannot recommend this film enough. Go see it, you will not be disappointed.
The film may be too serious for children under 12--nothing objectionable beyond some foul language, but the words are used to comedic effect.
May not win best picture but Colin Firth will at least be nominated for best actor for his performance.
Run, don't walk and go see the movie.

This movie is not just good. It's great; a brilliant example of the filmmaker's art -- it will be cherished in the years to come. "This is an instant classic". The story is moving, exciting, instantly involving, and has such wonderful, touching, and witty dialogue. You wish all movies were this good.
This movie has my vote to sweep ALL the major Oscars this year. Yes - I'm telling you - it IS that good!

A film gem that makes one yearn to see it performed on the stage. It would be ideal. I could go on endlessly praising the film. However, I'll leave that to others, of whom are legion. I will offer, however, a few nits. I did have a problem with Wallis Simpson being portrayed as common, and perhaps a bit slutty. Also, the film may have defied reality by representing David, Edward VII, as being intelligent and sensitive. Actually, he was a dolt.

The verdict on "The King's Speech"...
Superb! Excellent!! Outstanding!!!!
A little too fictionalized in places - with a little bit too much of the "what a hero the common man is" sentimentality - but it still gives you a magnificent sense of what George VI was like and how strong he was as a man. Also gives you a brilliant sense of just what an odious creature Edward VIII was. (In fact, it shows you that Edward VIII was even worse than you think. I am the last man to suggest les majestie, but you'll still want to punch him. The actor in the part plays the role to perfection.) The weak spot is the actor who portrays Churchill. He just does not come across as Churchill, though the role is small. (Also in fairness, while it does underplay Churchill's opposition to Edward VIII's abdication, if you have a little knowledge of the history, it also gives you a sense of how nuanced Churchill's position really was. He was defending the institution of monarchy, not so much Edward's peccadilloes.)
The film also has some really neat touches - such as when, when George VI becomes king, Princess Elizabeth reminds her sister, Princess Margaret, to curtsey before hugging their newly ascended father. (That gives you the sense of the duty bound queen Elizabeth would become.) There is also mention that Churchill, too, had a speech impediment, which parallels George VI beautifully. There are other little "Easter eggs" like that for the historically knowledgeable throughout the movie.
Superb movie. Be sure to see it.

I just saw this movie last night, and was thrilled to finally see a movie this year that I could rave about. Both Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush will be nominated for best Actors/Supporting Actor and probably for Best Film. A number of times I was moved to tears, as were others in the theater, amd there were a surprising number of hearty laughs at the very witty, British, humor....Do not miss this film!

This film exceeded my expectations. As an Anglophile, I fully expected the film to play fast and loose with both the characters and the events that take place. There were slight modifications to actual situations, but nothing that stood in the way of getting the message of the film across.
Of course, the quality of this film stands on the wonderful screenplay, and the incredible acting. Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush, and Helena-Bohnam Carter, with a wonderful supporting cast, are as the Brits say; "spot on". Bohnham-Carter, in particular, played her role to perfection. Born Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, a commoner, she shows both down to earth practicality, and a regal bearing. In contrast, Firth, playing first the Duke of York, and then King George VI, is a product of his upbringing within the close knit circle of the Royal Family; or as the Duke himself refers to it; "The Firm".
I highly recommend this film, and hope it will be distributed more widely in the near future. I had to drive over 60 miles to see it.

I REALLY tried hard to like this movie, but in the end it was just an extremely awkward speech therapy session. Fabulous costumes, photography and acting, but the storyline was just dreadful. A lot of obvious one-liners that seemed to amuse the audience. In the end I didn't care about any of the characters or the story.

This movie about a linguistically-challenged king and the only commoner who can help him strikes a wonderful balance between heart-wrenching and funny, historical and common-place drama. It is gorgeously filmed and costumed; both the actors and the script are spot on and so beautifully nuanced that I chose to see it a second time and was not disappointed. Rich contributions from everyone from cast to crew that should be duly recognized come Oscar time. Playing a tortured soul, Colin Firth's acting is worthy of his close-ups - and Geoffrey Rush provides expertly-measured doses of comic and soulful relief - both perfectly supported by Pearce, Bonham-Carter, and Jacobi.

This is a really great movie. Geoffrey Rush and Colin Furth should both win Oscars. It is reminiscent of The Queen in some respects, and it is at least as good as that movie, if not better. There is humor amongst the real life story and we get to see the personality of King George VI. Colin Furth IS King George VI, according to all accounts, and it really takes one back to an era. But Geofrey Rush's character is amazing as the speech therapist, with humor and humility he becomes the friend of the king. All of the characters are exremely well-described, distinct and the script is amazing. It should win a screenplay Oscar if not also Best Picture. Go and see it, even if you are not an Anglophile!

Fear of public speaking; the most common phobia.
In the opening scene, Colin Firth draws you into his own version of this personal terror, only he has good reason to fear speaking, as we soon discover.
This is a film with no special effects, (except for the period staging), no miraculous breakthrough, no violence. It's just about about how normal human beings in extraordinary circumstances manage.
All of the actors in this film are excellent, which is reassuring, considering how many of them seemed to also be in Harry Potter.
This is not a film to miss, on the large or small screen. Even I liked it.

Fabulously well-written and acted depiction of the little-known story behind King George VI's struggle to overcome his stammer in order to have the credibility and ability to lead Britain and sustain its morale in its hour of challenge against the Nazis. Pearce or Firth give Oscar-worthy performances, and both may be nominated. Helena Bonham Carter and the rest of the cast are superb. A moving, funny, fascinating retelling of history's little moments adding up to a very big moment.

King George VI, had a stuttering problem since age 4. The King hated public speaking and after his speech at the British Empire Exhibition in 1925. Queen Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (The Queen Mother = Aug 4, 1900 – Mar 30, 2002 died) sought the help of Lionel Logue. Lionel an Australian speech therapist, worked with King George VI to improve his stuttering in private situations as well as public speaking events. Lionel helped King George at his coronation in May 12, 1937, helped the King to deliver his War Speech against Germany in 1939 and his Victory in Europe Speech in May 8, 1945 a tag team trio event. King George VI passed away in 1952 and Lionel died in 1953. TODAY King George VI’s daughter Queen Elizabeth II is our Queen today of the United Kingdom. Actors: Colin Firth - Geoffrey Rush - Helena Bonham Carter. Definitely worth of a OSCAR nod. Royals just don’t have friends who are outside the monarchy. Great friends that lasted till they both passed. Remarkable story 5 out of 5 stars

Everything just comes together so beautifully.
And as for Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush, they inhabit their roles so well, you identify with their angst and struggle without even realizing what's happening.
They're each so understated and stately.
