The movie is full of humor but Colin Firth is also fantastic conveying King George the VI's pain as a stutterer. The movie has an unjust R rating. Yes, there is foul language but it is very specific in its use, in limited scenes (3?) and not gratuitous. There's a great lesson here for kids, so unless you are an absolute prude, don't worry about bringing children who are old enough to understand the film.

Best movie in a long time! During and after the film, all I could think was how outstanding the acting was and the film was. I rarely see good films like this one. I feel that Collin Firth and Geoffrey Rush should be up for an academy award. They deserve a standing ovation! Helena Bonham Carter was a very supportive and loving wife to the Duke and then King. She was also very good. The film itself should be up for an academy award. I do be live this film will be up for many awards and it was just so enjoyable to see. I give it the most stars possible. Do not miss this one. It is also an uplifting and inspiring story about the real things that go wrong with our childhoods. But then how the right healer, (doctor) or therapist can work with us to help us overcome our issues. Really really great film!

My husband and I were hungry for a quality story, acting, scripting; boy did we get the full meal deal with King's Speech! What I love about English actors in contrast to American, is that I'm never aware they're acting; always feel as though I'm right up at the table with them, engaging in whatever. Excellent acting by all. I learned more about the personalities and backgrounds of the main characters that I expected to. I did find it ironic that the music chosen for the climax, on the eve of WWII, was by a German composer.

don't misunderstand me, I enjoyed the film. but cuing when the audience should cry, cheer, and all the rest by presaging applicable emotions with music gets a bit cloying. it would be nice if we could get a bit deeper into the characters, beyond what the House of Windsor would want us to know about David, George and the rest of them.

Marvelous movie! I would highly recommend this to anyone interest in learning more about history, England, the monarchy, World War II, and speech defects. You will not be disappointed. The scenes of the palaces (both inside and out) and the office are almost a 3rd person character in and to themselves. I will be rooting for this movie, hoping it receives many Oscar nominations for Acting, Best Picture, etc. The audience applauded at the end. That doesn't happen often these days. Be sure and see this one on the big screen if you can while it is playing in your area so that you can appreciate the grandeur and majesty of the palaces.

This was a wonderful film that allowed a peek into the royal family history. Colin Firth deserves an Oscar for his performance which was so believable. I have always loved Colin Firth, but never considered him to have stellar acting chops. This movie changes that. Firth gives the performance of a lifetime, as do Rush and Bonham Carter. The staging is understated and beautiful. A perfect period piece. This is one of those movies where the audience bursts into spontaneous applause at the end. This movie will intellectually engage you if you want, and will not leave your emotions untouched. A younger viewer will find it on the slow side. But I am not of the younger crowd. If you have trouble with English accents be alert and sit next to the speaker. Perhaps the person you brought with you can assist you if you do not understand something that was said. Don't let this diminish any of this fine work. I predict multiple Academy Awards for this movie. It will be a classic! Movies like this do not come out every year.

I have eagerly awaiting the release of this movie and I was not disappointed! This movie was incredible. It tells a compelling story and it makes the royal family seem much more normal - they are not these perfect beings despite trying to seem it sometimes. What I loved about this movie is that there was an unexpected amount of humor; although not a comedy, it isn't a dry, boring drama that a lot of people might classify this movie as. If you're an anglophile this is a must see!

A rare film that doesn't get distracted by itself. Actors that act and not just be on screen. This film was excellent. It dealt with an ongoing human problem, the root of both stuttering and anorexia. When a parent or parents emotionally attack a child(children) there is little doubt of the outcome. The child is scarred for life unless honest intervention is sought out. This movie should be seen by new parents and discussed after its completion. Maybe a child can be saved from the hell on earth treatment that Geoge VI got from his mother and especially the father as well as a dominating older sibling(Edward).

This movie was a perfect blend of fact, atmosphere, writing and, above all, magnificent acting. Every performance from the leading roles, through cameos, was outstanding and made for a thoroughly enjoyable viewing experience. Highly recommended!
