Even better than I expected. It was much more than another British period costume drama.Wonderfully crafted performances by all the actors. I expected Rush and Firth to excel, but Helena Bonham Carter was also exceptional in her role - surprisingly wonderful. This cast deserves an Oscar sweep, for sure.

Colin Firth's ability to show the king's difficulty with speech was palpable and I can't imagine anyone not identifying with his absolute dread of public speaking, which makes the king's overcoming of this obstacle all the more amazing. The cinematogoraphy was outstanding, the timing impeccable, the whole thing was flawless. I never would have guessed there would be so much humor in this type of a movie. All in all, a 9 out of 10.

I hadn't read any reviews of this film, however was told by several friends that it was a must see. And indeed, this is a compassionate poignant film about building friendship out of pain and struggle. The main theme is the stuttering of the to be King of England, and in the process of finding relief, finds friendship and compassion with his speech therapist. He also uncovers the hurt and struggle in his relationship with his father and brother and overcomes the impact of their inability to accept him as he is. Many layers and superb acting make this a must see film.

This movie takes an intimate look at King George IV and his irreverent speech consultant. It is serious and interesting throughout, but has enough humor to keep you smiling. Loved this movie. It was very well cast. Each character had his (or her) place and their own emotions to express throughout the entire film. Tempers to tears were well expressed and shared by all. I loved that was based on the truth of real peoples lives. To know a King really had this speech impediment should be a motovating fact for anyone who has had the same. It should become a "must see" for all adults and children (only if they edit out the foul words for children) who are in need of any speech therapy. All speech experts should have this as a required classroom film.

Simply put - The King's Speech is a perfect movie (at least as perfect as a movie can be when made by imperfect beings)! This true story is fascinating and intricately told, allowing us to understand the motivations and nuances surrounding the events. The work by all of the lead actors is mesmerizing as they inhabit and disappear into the characters they portray - spot on! The cinematography, dialogue, editing, pacing, score and sound work could not be better. There is nothing more enjoyable - in a movie about an historical event that few are aware of - than to learn much about the event while being immensely entertained! The King's Speech hits all the right notes fluidly and without the slightest "cinematic stammer"! Don't miss it!

This is one of the best movies I have seen in a very long time. Incredible performances by everyone involved. What an unusual story about courage and heroism it is! And what made it particularly special was the emotional range it expressed: compassion, anger, sympathy, "feeling the fear and doing it anyway." And it wasn't too intense or too fluffy, even though I laughed and cried in equal measure. I would recommend this to everyone! My husband and I just loved it and plan to watch it again in the future.

A wonderful flim well acted, directed, and edited. It certainly deserves recognition for the movie awards.
Only downside was that there was too much effort to make the charactors (royalty and public officials) resemble the real onrd. Only older viewers, like myself, care, but it was not neccessary.
In any regard, it was a wonderful movie and I highly recommend it.

After seeing a couple of real duds this holiday season, it was really nice to finally see a film of this caliper. Firth and Rush are both wonderful, and you quickly become emotionally involved with both of their characters, and enjoy seeing their friendship develop and grow. Heard this was a great movie, and we were NOT disappointed!! Excellent cinematography and acting, and the inside look at the monarchy was fascinating. Great portrayal of the friendship between the king and his speech therapist, given that the king had no other friends outside his family. Although the bullying aspect of his life was brief in this movie, it brought to mind lots of things that parents, siblings and others do to make a child's life miserable and, consequently, the long-term damage it brings to adulthood. And in the end, finding the courage to face his fears and make it work on a level none of us will ever imagine. Makes me wonder how he would have dealt with the video exposure necessary in today's world, if at all. Best movie I've seen all year!

It is sad this wonderful movie did not make the top ten gross the first weekend it was out. This is a sad commentary on the American movie goers when a movie of this caliber and class is totally ignored. Clearly this movie will be best picture of the year with awards also going to Firth, Rush and Carter. All other contenders are "also rans" to say the least. The acting and directing were wonderful. There was no nudity or violence and I left the theatre feeling very upbeat. Such a nice feeling to see a good movie without all the gore and sex.

This movie was wonderful! Colin Firth did an outstanding job as usual but this is his best yet. It's a beautifully done film from every aspect. I would highly recommend it.
