The King's Speech is very well made. The acting is supurb, and dialogue well done. I really enjoyed it, and think it was a great look at a crucial moment in history, how King George VI responded to his sudden responsibities. it was a fine look at a very human person overcoming his disabilities and rising to deal with a horrible person and situation -Hitler and the onset of WWII. Well worth seeing

My husband and I and another couple went to see the movie. I did not think the husbands would like it, but we all thought it was excellent. As my husband commented, they did a great job making a fairly mundane/boring subject into a fascinating tale. It had us engaged from the opening scene, kept us interested throughout, and wanting more at the end. It provided a very personal insight into a slice of history that was previously unknown to us.

A wonderful film, with a terrific cast, brings to life the true story of the man who would become King George VI and his efforts to overcome stuttering. The movie was the best movie I have seen in years. I have always been a huge fan of Colin Firth but his performance in this movie was just exceptional! It is a movie I would love to see again. I knew the basic story and immediately recognized so many of the cast. But after a moment of recognition (oh, that's Dumbledore, or Jennifer Ehle from Pride and Predjudice, etc), one actor after another surprised me by making me forget the other roles they'd played. This isn't a fast moving action flick--it is just that good actors playing well-written parts bring you into the story and away from alll the trappings.
Like another reveiwer, we were pleasently surprised to have the audience break into applause as credits rolled.
My intellectual 15 yr old really liked it, too.

Kudos to Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter, as well as director Tom Hooper and writer David Seidler. Perfect casting: King George, the speech instructor, and supporting roles entirely believable and engaging, and one very quickly cares about these people. The British royal family,often portrayed as unappealing charicatures, are full and complex people. Dialogue was natural and unforced, and the story well-paced. Sets and lighting were excellent. Five Stars!! Excellent movie. Colin Firth is definitely Oscar worthy as was Geoffery Rush. It was good clean entertainment - no violence and no sex.

Probably the best movie I have ever seen. Everything was as if in real life. The script was delicately managed. The actors appeared to be real people. The story was rivoting. The friendship between the lead characters was engaging. The sets and costumes were complementary and understated. My favorite line was when the king says "I just put a few in so they would know it was me." It was a great victory moment. We saw he had turned a positive emotional corner in his life.

Colin and Geoffrey are at the top of their craft. By stories end I couldn't tell who was the lead and who the supporting, but that didn't matter. You left the theater feeling as though the King and the speech teacher had done exactly what the King said in his speech - you felt as though they had stepped across the threshold of your home and spoken to you person to person. Not to be missed.

How long have I waited to see more cultured movies like this one. It is an amazing film. Takes the Brits to bring back "good movies." Colin Firth should win an Academy Award for this film. He is outstanding! There was no violence...no sex....just a great story!
