It would be safe to assume that the English Royal family have a pretty easy time of it. But this movie's strength is to show the extraordinary pressures on the human individuals put in such a position. How would you feel if you had a crippling stammer, you brother was an ass - albeit likable and vulnerable too? Oh, and for good measure, you will be looked to as the the individual expected to represent your nation in the fave of Hitler? No pressure, mate! It's a heck of a good question, and this film does a delightful job of answering it. Perfectly cast, everyone gives a spot-on performance. Enjoy, learn, sympathize, and admire.

It was so good that I wanted it to go on. The title is the King's Speach but the character Lionel is the best part and the friendshipp formed between him and the king. Also the acting was so good that you understood his love for his wife and children, her love for him and the loneliness of being a royal.

This is truly an excellent movie -- the best I have seen in a long time. I saw it for the second time in the theater last night, and it takes quite a lot for me to pay to see anything in the theater more than once.
Colin Firth is absolutely perfect in his role, and he does a fantastic job, as do Geoffery Rush and Helena Bonham Carter. Really, the entire movie was cast perfectly.

Think The King's Speech will be boring? It's not. Well-deserving of every Oscar (and a few it didn't win), this film is moving, joyful, funny, sad, and triumphant. Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush, and Helena Bonham Carter are wonderful in their roles, and the supporting cast--including the little girls who play Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret--is excellent. Fans of Masterpiece and Harry Potter will recognize many of them, especially Jennifer Ehle as Lionel's wife, who starred opposite Colin Firth in Pride and Prejudice. I can't recommend this film highly enough. Go see The King's Speech. Now!

Once in a while, the Academy gets it right, and this was one of those times. It depended entirely on acting, not on special effects, and the acting was superb, to say the least. I agree with nearly everyone that Geoffrey Rush was equally deserving of an award for his excellent performance.

Excellent picture. I went before the academy awards because I'm a history buff and thought it looked interesting. I walked out amazed and began to tell everyone I knew to go see it. I was so disappointed that Rush didn't get the Academy Award for Best Supporting. For a movie that had no blockbuster special effects, explosions, etc., and was about two middle-aged men talking to each other, it was fabulous. It really shows how great acting and writing (thats the screenwriter in me speaking) can make a motion picture.

A great "aside" story of the Royals during the start of WWII. I liked it a lot and really enjoyed the total experience. Well done and striking. Colin Firth does and excellent and studied portrayal of a stutterer. The friendship that develops between the King and a common man is touching.
Pomp and circumstance is portrayed well with stunning visuals and a great soundtrack.
Derek Jacoby plays his part well and assists the viewer in disliking the "business as usual" approach to the ceremony. It felt good to see the King breaking the rules and stepping outside his advisors advice.

My partner and I went last night to see this movie, not because of the awards it won (and justly so i might add) but because it wasn't the normal shoot 'em up "jiggly camera" crap pouring out of Hollyweird as of late. We walked out of the theatre astonished! Colin Firth and Helen Bohnam Carter were outstanding! Geoffry Rush is so remarkably good that you will cheer him on as he bucks the establishment in his efforts to help the King. History is the best writer there is!

This movie has drama, history, a Love Story, a "Buddy" film, and overcoming personal crisis' in an intelligent and warming film. The actors made you care about them and portrayed these historic figures with feeling & life. These are the kinds of movies they should be making ....about REAL people & their lives. Aman who is thrust into an unwanted position, a woman who loves & supports him no matter what happens & a man who is separated from them by "class" but in the end is treated as royal as themselves. Not a "feel good" movie but a good feeling movie.

Direction, Lighting, Pace, Costumes, Sets are all top tier! All performances are excellent! I've seen a lot of period pieces in my time and find this movie to be one of the top. The time went so rapidly, we were stunned when the movie was over! Very well done. I am married to a recovered stutterer, have a daughter who sometimes stutters and a step daughter whose stuttering is torturous. Colin Firth captured exactly how a strong, capable, seemingly assured person can wilt in a moment and become almost incapable of speech. When he wilted under his brother's mocking his nickname, he had me in his hand. That he had moments of fluency with an inner circle was equally realistic. Helena B.C. was also perfect -- and so unlike many of the other characters she has played equally delightfully.

To those of you whom have speech issues, this movie can give you hope. I'm glad a movie of great caliber,such as this movie, is out and showing others to never give up. There are thousands of people suffering with speech impediments in our country. Thank you for producing this movie which will give them courage to search for their cure.
