The King's Speech was a movie that lacked the traditional separation between Audience and Critic's ratings. Everyone appeared to have 'A'ced this movie. The acting was solid, the subject was unique, the pacing was slow and the plot rather predictable. The characters lacked depth, and if it was not about a Royal subject, who would care? It felt more like a "Rah Rah" everyone cheer for the underdog, who obviously would succeed in the end. What is all the fuss about? Best Picture, Oscar. Really?

This movie was beautifully acted - a very personal snapshot of the British royal family during a few critical months in early 20th century. Surprisingly humorous and very personal. Colin Firth was simply amazing - Helena Bonham Carter perfect - Timothy Spali brilliant!

While this film builds in suspense and surprises, it is at heart a wonderfully gentle film that develops subtly and movingly. This movie was skillfully acted and the narrative was effectively told with both humor and poignancy. I went to see Colin Firth, whom I believe is a great actor, but I was also impressed with all other actors in the movie. I also enjoyed the narrative--it's not only the story of how George VI overcomes his stammer but also about a developing friendship. Not having known this aspect of history I learned something new and was also entertained. I highly recommend seeing this film!!

Not Pygmalion, "The King's Speech" stands on its own quite well. It follows the Duke of York's stammering travails in an engaging way. While set in the late 30's to early 40's, the movie concentrates on the characters involved without overly emphasizing the historical events of the time. A very enjoyable movie.

Extremely well acted film, we went home and looked at old newspapers and books from the time , Helena Bonham Carter looks so like The Queen Mum, Colin Firth doesn't look so like King George, but his performance makes up for it, should get the Oscar. Very funny in parts, sad in others, and a good glimpse into that part of history. Goeffrey Rush does an excellent job and the character Logue is amusing. Well worth watching, take the kids over 13 for a bit of education if you don't mind the F word.

Saw the film today and was blown away. Loved it. What was so great in a general sense was the very personal, human triumph that had such a monumental impact for the entire world. Put that atop a lovely subtext of a king (Colin Firth) and a commoner (Geoffrey Rush) slogging their way through the class distinctions that define them, make their student-teacher relationship almost impossible, and ultimately give way to the foundation for a noble, rich and enduring friendship. Both Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush are wonderful in their roles. Firth played his beautifully; in addition to creating an authentic character, he consistently held the speech impediment without overplaying or caricaturizing it.

This movie which could have so tedious, demonstrated how impactful and meaningful speech pathology and therapy actually are. They helped a King give confidence to a nation during an impossible time. Words when spoken clearly brought light to England cushioned in the darkness of Hitler's unconscionable rage. Truth in the face of terror. It was filmed beautifully and acted impeccably.. Five Stars!
