A truly heartfelt portrayal of the main characters. The movie left me with an understanding of the frustration, humiliation, and hopelessness that plagued King George VI (of England) since his childhood. His wife was undaunted in her pursuit to find someone who could cure him of his stammer. After seeing many speech therapists, she finally finds a man who successfully treats her husband, using some unorthodox methods. Through his inspiring speech, the King encourages his subjects to be steadfast and hopeful as WWII threatens the lives of his subjects. The King and his therapist (Mr. Lionel Logue) remained close friends for the rest of their lives. An interesting story, and one I had never heard before. Go see this movie.

Many films that originate from true stories often end up being glorified documentaries that simply present the facts. The King's Speech is no documentary. This film is a beautifully crafted piece of cinema from master filmmakers that unfolds the (true) story and relationships between the characters. You can tell each shot is lovingly framed and produced. Outstanding acting, especially by Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush, that is honest, funny and touching. What a refreshing change from the formulaic, over produced films of late. Go see it.

This is not a Nicholas Cage movie so non of the acting is over the top. The human drama unfolds without a lot of surprise, yet manages to move the audience without feeling like a well-oiled tear jerker. Overall there was some great acting by Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush with a good supporting performance given by Helena Bonham Crater, who seemed to push beyond her lines and deliver an understated yet powerful performance. I recommend this movie for the 17-65 crowd. Any younger and you'd lose the audience.

This heartfelt, moving film is the best I've seen in a long time. Colin firth and Geoffrey Rush do a marvelous job playing two strong-willed men who, despite the difference in their social state, forge a strong friendship and respect for one another. Although we know the end of the film from history, it's a great journey from the opening scene to the conclusion. I recommend this film for anyone who likes well-rounded characters, a great storyline, and a historical context.

I would highly recommend that parents take their older children to this film. Yes, there is foul language--which is integral to the story (not gratuitous), but the film is so affirming, such a good example of someone working hard to overcome a problem, and so well done. I would certainly prefer any child of my acquaintance to spend 2 hours seeing this film rather than PG-13 ones that include people's faces getting blown away or being hopelessly inane. A great film. The audience applauded at the end.

The acting was so superb that you feel you are in the same room with the King and his trainer. The actors "lived" the parts and were 100% believable. The movie shows that some men rise to the occasion even though they dread having to do it and attempt to conquer their fears and impediments. Everything about the movie including the directing, staging,, costumes, lighting, sound, camera work, etc. was second to none. It is worthy of any and all Academy awards for ehich it will be nominated.

Geoffrey Rush is outstanding! As usual! And Colin Firth is tops...convincing, real, despite having to portray a person with a speech impediment which often is mocked. H B Carter also deilivers an excellent portrayal of "Queen Mum" as the supportive, dedicated wife of King George VI. I was glued to the story. The cinematography was artistic and classy and frankly it's a movie worth seeing twice!

My husband goes to the movies with me once a year (my choice/for our anniversary) and always jokes about how long it will take him to fall asleep. He didn't this time and I actually think he laughed more than me. My one regret, and I've told everyone I know about it, is the "R" rating. I almost didn't go because of it. If they would have just taken out the "F" word (and boy that scene WAS funny, since it reminded me of my husband doing home improvement projects), the movie could have been rated PG-13 and thus would reach a larger audience.

This story of the British royal family in the 1930's, & how the future King George VI dealt with his stuttering problem (with the help of an "uncredentialed" but experienced & effective Australian-born speech therapist) is extremely well-acted (which we would expect from Helena Bonham Carter & Colin Firth), visually stunning in the understated British manner, with humorous moments while maintaining the "royalty-commoner" tension that significantly drives the plot forward. This is a must-see film for anyone who wants to see a well-acted British drama, and who is interested in the historical events which are here depicted.
