Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter turn in epic performances in this gem from The Weinstein Company and director Tom Hooper. You will believe that Colin Firth suffers from a stammering problem; he captures the nuances of this affliction perfectly. He is eminently believable as a member of the Royal family and as King George VI. Geoffrey Rush is also superb as speech therapist Lionel Logue and Helena Bonham Carter excels as the Queen Mother. These individual performances are set amongst a totally believable war-time London and Buckingham Palace. This film is superb, don't miss it!

Colin Firth was King George IV.
He captured the torment of a person with a speech impediment who had been tormented and chastised.
Jeffrey Rush was perfect as the compassionate speech therapist. Helen Bonham Carter was "Queen Mum"

Went to see The King's Speech with husband, brother and Mom. Whenever a movie is highly recommended, I am usually disappointed - no exception here. We all thought the movie was good and would recommend, however, it's one course meal, so to speak. It would have been more interesting if there were more detailed sub-stories going on. I would not recommend for younger children, first because I don't think it would hold their interest and & secondly the language (f-word) repeated.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Colin Firth's performance was a tour de force. He not only captured the verbal stammering of George VI, but also the bodily movements that accompany stammering. He managed to create a nuanced character, integrating the stammering into the monarch's personality but not allowing it to create a flat character. Firth's performance was simply one of the best I have ever seen. The rest of the cast was also wonderful. Helena Bonham-Carter and Jeffrey Rush, especially so. I loved the movie and for anyone who is interested in acting technique, it is a "must see"!

Definitely would recommend it to historical buffs and anyone who wants to get a better idea of the Monarch in England. Truly inspirational. Saw the movie on Sun 1/16/11 and went home and watched Colin Firth win the Golden Globe. How great is that especially as enjoyable as it was. All the main actors did a superb job.

A tour de farce by all involved. I am amazed Geoffery Rush and Helena Bonham-Carter didn't win supporting Golden Globes along with Colin Firth. The period settings and costumes are impeccable, the actors obviously studied old tapes of the royals for mannerisms -- but the most important part of it is that the movie catches you up, involves you completely. Even my husband who normally hates period pieces -- loved this movie.

Althougth I fear that The King's Speeech will not garner the $$$ and overall popularity of let's say the next crap action flicks that cater to American's with short attention spans and under the age of 16, I am as positive as I can be that Colin Firth will get the Oscar for Best Actor for his performance in this film. If you are a serious moviegoer, this is a must film to see. It is truly wonderful and all the performances are top rate including those of Rush and Bonham Carter. The story is dramtic without all the flash/bang of today's action genre. If you are squemish of four letter words, perhaps you should bring ear muffs for the couple of dialouge segments where these words are not used in anger or hatred but as part of ..well I don't want to give awary too much of the plot Kudo's for the costume design work also. I felt that I was in 30's-40's England and isn't that what cd is for and not to distract the viewer from the story. Go see The King's Speech and be prepared to be moved.

The acting by the three main stars in the movie is reason to go see it...but in the end it is truly one of the finest films made of late. Firth and Rush are brilliant in delivering award winning performances. If you see any films from 2010, see this one, you will not be disappointed. All these great performances, directing, cinematography...and it's all a true story. It's a must see film!

This is a movie worth every penny of the admission price. A gem. It is beautifully scripted, acted, designed, and written.
A true story of a humble man, KIng George VI of Englalnd, who is destined to be England's king, despite his objections. His loving wife and adodring daughters support him as he struggles with his handicap.
The help of a common man who has the intelligence, experience, humility, and fortitude to teach and encourage his king enables George VI to rise above his disability to lead his country through the second world war.
This is not a chick flick, but it is inspiring and uplifting entertainment. There are some occasions of obscene language, so don't bring young children.

I really enjoyed this movie for the acting, the period costuming and scenery. The true story was told from a point of view that most people would not have considered - that of being put in a position of having to expose an embarrassing affliction with the entire world against your preferences. While it may seem great to be royalty, it must also come with difficulties as depicted in this movie. Also, the love story between the King and Queen was touching even though it was not the main focus.

"The King's Speech" is an enjoyable movie. The performances were excellent. The term "mature" comes to mind. The movie demonstrates that special effects are not always the singular factor for success.
The grave atmosphere of a coming war and all the horror that this entails was captured by the performances of the cast. To be sure, this atmosphere is what elevates a perhaps trivial event into an important one. The king represents the nation and cannot be seen by the world as weak and deformed.. This important struggle was captured by the film and exemplifies why the heroic is always important.

Best movie I've seen in years! Intelligent, poignant, funny, frustrating, gripping, and glorious. All in all a brilliant film with brilliant acting. A must see for all ages. Frankly it should have been PG-13)
