I thought that the movie was extremely well done. The character development was great and the acting was Oscar worthy. I think that the R rating was unnecessary, since the bad language was completely innocuous, and really humorous in its use.

This is an excellent movie and exemplifies how compelling a film can be carried on the actors alone. Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush do a wonderful job. Their interactions are flawless. Wonderful to watch two extraordinary actors bring this story to life - the movie belongs to Firth and Rush, with no surprise that Firth got the Golden Globe award - I was sorry when the movie ended, because I wanted to watch the characters' relationship develop further, and I couldn't take my eyes off of Firth and Rush - their voices, their mannerisms, their timing - no blow-ups, no boobs, just stellar craftsmanship - highly recommended (and thank god Edward abdicated and George ascended to the throne)

This movie not only is well written, well made, well acted, and scored well - it is an unusual story of how two guys grow in mutual respect and friendship without any untoward undertones. The R rating is simply because of a lot of profanity - which is tastefully and truthfully portrayed and is a necessary element to the story; not gratuitous. It's really an inappropriate use of the R rating out of blind "fairness" rather than common sense. It should be rated PG13.

The main highlights of the movie are the display of old England royal traditions and how the new king, who stammers sometimes, could finally deliver a motivating war time speech. Due to the political and social realities of Pre-WWII England, a film so narrow in scope must have been difficult to create. Surely, the temptation to dissect both George VI's personal struggles and those of contemporaneous English society must have been nearly overwhelming. And though director Tom Hooper does subtly address the overarching questions which will come to define England as a modern nation, his firm focus upon a well-constructed ensemble cast does wonders for the film (I'll leave it to other reviewers to discuss the charms of Firth, Rush and Bonham-Carter). With the compelling storyline of an unlikely monarch searching for strength and identity, and the subplot of an ailing nation preparing for yet another grinding war, this film enthralls and inspires throughout.

It helps to already love the primary actors/actresses in a movie when you go but that is not always a guarantee. But in this case, it is icing on the cake. Colin Firth turns in a first rate performance as do Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter. This movie humanizes the character's struggles and gives us a glimpse into what must have been an incredibly difficult time in England's history. Most of us remember the king who abdicated his throne for love but few of us have asked questions about the effect that had on the monarchy and those left behind. After all the accolades, I was hoping to not be disappointed. The movie is spectacular! I had been warned (in a review) of the amount of foul language, but that turned out to be my favorite part of the dialogue. This movie was so engrossing, so moving, and so flawless in performances that it is difficult to know where to begin. The threads of love, loyalty, tenacity, and a delicious wit ran through all the major characters (Bertie, his wife and children, and Lionel) and created a tapestry more beautiful and grander than any individual performance. The unfolding of momentous world events during this time was made remarkably clear and personal. Do not miss this movie.

I loved this movie. Colin Firth has done an amazing job and I think he deserves an Oscar for it. All the performances are good and the movie moves a subtle pace. The whole story is shown very nicely and Geoffrey Rush has also done a very good job as the tutor/therapist. Overall a very enjoyable movie with some very nice and simple humor in it. Would highly recommend it.

This movie simply has so much going for it that it’s difficult to capture in a few words. First and foremost, it is a love story – the love of a man and his wife, the love between two friends, the love of country. The King’s Speech gives us an incredibly personal view of a pivotal moment in twentieth century history. It makes us examine ourselves – and I for one come up wanting. I simply don’t know how many of us would measure up in these circumstances. The King’s Speech is a truly wonderful and moving motion picture. GO SEE IT!!!

The English prince who would become George VI, and guide his country through WW2, was a stammerer. That's not good, for someone who must give stirring speeches. This movie follows his remediation at the guidance of a speech therapist who was an Aussie commoner, and an unconventional speech therapist as well. A very well-done movie, touching and poignant. The two leads, Colin Firth as the prince and Geoffrey Rush as the therapist, are super. Don't miss this one.
