Good action, but not enough thought. Nobody ever bothers to really explain the storyline and the situation, except in asides. You know that a mechanic is some kind of a hitman, but for whom (besides "a company") you never know. You also don't know why, it just sort of happens. You also don't get much of a sense of a plot developing until about halfway through. Even then it just happens, rather than being built up. The movie never really bothers to explain or dive into the relationship between the two main characters, so the sudden ending doesn't really bring out much emotional quality. Statham is unusually good in this role, and delivers the dialog believably enough. It's one step above your standard shoot em up action flick, but it's not smart enough to keep me interested. If you like shoot em ups, but want a little more, then this serves it up, but don't expect much thought to be put into it.

A well done, well acted action movie. Donald Sutherland maintains his charm and charisma despite his aging. Jason Statham is solidifying himself as the modern day man's man action hero star. Ben Foster is truly an interesting, versatile, multidimensional actor who will be a force in Hollywood worth paying attention to developing his career; I already feel sad for him, as I am sure that he will be overlooked too many times for Oscar recognition, but not so sad as I believe he will likely be a great indicator as to whether or not a movie is worth seeing just by virtue of whether or not he is in it--if he can avoid the trappings of the culture of fame and fortune, only fate will shorten what is destined to be a brilliant career. The movie itself has some great action scenes and a simple but good story line to move the film along. Action fans won't be disappointed.

Let me start by telling you that I had to pee from the beginning of the movie, but I could not bring myself to leave the theater until the end. There aren't many movies that I would endure that for.
The story is a bit strange, but the action and mayhem somehow make you forget about that. There was never a dull moment. Action packed and never boring. You actually may feel bad about what happens to some of the people in this flick. Way better than I expected.

Having been a fan of the original, Mechanic. I was wondering how they could make it better. Well, Jason and co. did a Faboulous job! Out doing the original by a mile. Story was more intersting and much faster paced. They tied everything up nicely. Overall much better job. Altohugh a cameo by Jan Michael Vincent might have been a nice nod to the original. Strongly recommend!!

Let me start by saying that the main reason that we went to see this movie was to see Jason Statham - as far as that goes, all was well. (He's very easy on the eyes, as always!) Regarding the rest of the movie - it was extremely predictable (I never saw the original) and basically just okay. Some dry humor, which was great and much appreciated, but not a lot else to recommend. If you're just going to look at Jason, save yourself the $$ and just stay home and watch The Transporter again! Better than Bronson's original by a longshot. Statham cements his status as the king of high-octane, action "shoot-em-ups" in "The Mechanic". Obviously this is not a "moral primmer" for anyone. It is a very well done, violent, gritty, escapist, revenge flick. Seasoned, revered actor Donald Sutherland adds some heft while the rest of the movie team do a great job with cinematography, sound, editing, dialogue, script and pacing - for the genre. Non-stop, crazy, violent doings here. Not for the faint of heart, kids under 17 and/or people that have a non-eclectic movie palette limited to intricate plot and dialogue considered "higher end" (like the excellent recent film "The King's Speech"). Kudos to director West and his entire team!

This movie never claimed to be anything more than a ton of explosions and people getting shot. Anyone going into this movie expecting to see a James Bond like movie is in for some serious disappointment. I mean really if you saw ANY of the commercials you know it's about hit men, who are not the most upstanding people in the world. Granted most of the people in the film that get killed actually deserve it however they are still HIT MEN so don't expect a ton of moral lessons. Anyway (sorry for the rant) the acting was excellent, as I would expect nothing less from that cast, and the stunts and special effects weren't over the top. A small part of me wishes that the end was a little different, but just a small part. Overall I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who is a fan of big explosions and non stop action without an over abundance of plot.

A little slow to be a traditional action flick, not enough of a plot, or deep enough character/plot development to be considered a thinker's piece. Not really bloody enough to warrant the rating.
Every plot turn was predictable. Frankly, would I watch this movie on cable? Yes. Would I pay to watch this in the theater? No.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Jason Statham is great ! This is action packed and well cast... good storyline- a bit bloody at times- but worth the show! Looking forward to seeing Jason in a sequel!

Movie was pretty good; plot was simple, but it did have a few twist and turns so it was worth seeing. I like action films and this film did have a lot of action.

I love Jason Stratham! The plot of the movie was not great but Jason gave a great performance as always. The action really had me going. I was pumped up for the entire movie. If you like action, you'll enjoy this flick.

This movie was surprisingly wonderful! I would see it again. I saw three movies this weekend and this was the best by far.....probably the best I've seen in a few years. This was my husband's pick and I have to admit he did better than me in picking movies.
