My wife and I saw it on Thursday (May 16) and it was OUTSTANDING. It was very interesting how J Abrams intertwined the characters from the Star Trek's with William Shatter at the same time gave it a unique movie. The special effects were amazing. I can't wait until the next one and to see what he comes up with in the new Star Wars.

Loved this movie. I really enjoyed all the references to older Star Trek movies and the TV series. The computer graphics are amaaazzzing! A fun movie for trekkies and non-trekkies.

I wasn't sure what to expect of this one since the previous Star Trek movie changed the whole story-line. I was certainly not disappointed. Yes, some of the cast-in-stone Star Trek story lines have been altered but it is just a fantastic story. I really enjoyed all the subtle references to previously established Star Trek stories/lines/characters. Just a truly great movie experience. It left me wanting more and that is a true sign of a great movie.

Existing STAR TREK fans who loved 2009's STAR TREK will enjoy STAR TREK Into the Darkness. Those who became fans because of the 2009 film will have a good time, but may come away feeling like they weren't as "in" on it.
It's hard to talk about this film without giving away anything crucial.
One thing that made the 2009 film wonderful was it's strong character development and ability to reach out to fans of film rather than targeting the "Trekkies." It wasn't a members only club. Everyone was welcome, and you didn't need to know the secret hand shake of password.
New fans have had four years to catch up on all things TREK (if they were so inclined). INTO THE DARKNESS seems to bank on the idea that they have. If there was a check list of things the fans wanted that they didn't get four years ago, this film checked all the boxes. This is both delightful and teetering on dangerous. STAR TREK: Nemesis alienated (pardon the sci-fi pun) potential viewers by being too fan-centric, which hurt the over all story. This film doesn't quite go to those levels, but it could have. There is a substantial amount of action, so it's definitely not boring. The references to TREK past do, occasionally, knock us out of the film.
SHERLOCK's Benedict Cumberbatch is well cast as The Enterprises newest foe. More detail would require major spoilers, and this film should be experienced spoiler-free.
I strongly suggest to anyone wishing to see this to see it very soon before your friends ruin it for you.

I know this is a new writer and everything but having Spock cry and changing to much of the characters which are the basis of the success of this movies and the culture around it may be a negative point.
But overall it was great and definitely recommendable to my friends to go see.

This was definitely not the worst Star Trek movie to date. That being said: JJ Abrams went out of his way to make something Paramount could make money from and he nailed it. Because of such a similar story arc, the film comes off as though it were lifted from Rodenberry's notes on Star Trek 2 and then thrown out because "it was too hard to follow". The acting is awkward and the characters seem vapid by comparison to the previous film; the villain ,however , played by Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock), brings his A game and literally blows away the entire cast in raw talent. Amidst the obviously overused 3d(one can tell by where the CGI is aimed at your face every 5 minutes), the obnoxious return of the lens flare, and the intentional use of Shakey Cam, the movie is gorgeous, the designs crisp and new(ish). The film is entertaining to say the least but I have no heart-wrenching need to see it again and again.

Eye popping special effects and a great soundtrack simply serve to enhance a great story that I think has some surprising twists. If you're a Star Trek fan and have seen all of the movies, this one will keep you thinking.

This film is amazing. It was action pack literally from the beginning till the end. It makes references to the previous film, Star Trek, and even to some of hte other Star Trek movies. I saw it in 2D and plan on checking this out in 3D. If you like exciting films this is the movie for you. It even has heart and you can tell the love story grows. There's humor, drama, scif-fi tech stuff, and so much more. The villian is great there is a surprise one as well, and the heroes of the Enterprise are realistic. Love the film I recommend this to everyone.

This most "current" Star Trek film has it all. Excellent visual effects and sounds, plenty of action, just enough character plots, and what surprised me the most, lots of whistle blowing on current events (Boston bombings, Sandy Hook, Aurora shooting, etc.). For those of you out there who are truth seeking, free thinkers, this is a film to watch. Interesting how in this film we have a small element within Star Fleet which has a secretly hidden facility from where new technology has been developed. Interesting how an "unknown individual" has been given an alias in order to carry out "terror acts". Interesting how when Kirk and his crew find themselves in the middle of this "orchestration", they must now be "silenced" so no one back home knows what really has occurred. Interesting how all this stems from a small elements desire to "start an inevitable war" against the Klingons. But don't pay attention to all this! Complain about meaningless plot holes. It's only a movie. Right?

A lot of times, the second movie will not be as good as the first. That is not the case for this movie. It is just as good if not better since they didn't have to reintroduce the main characters to us.
I took my older teens to the midnight showing. We all had a great time. It was action packed, and had some unexpected twists and turns. It was great to see Spock show some emotion and to continue to watch the friendship of Spock and Kirk grow.
I would add more but don't want to ruin the movie for those who haven't seen it, yet. For parents though, there are a few places where "damn" and such were used. It was not a lot. There was no nudity although one scene had Kirk getting out of bed with 2 girls with tails who were in bra and panties. I don't think the movie would be good for those with kids who do not like loud noises, too. Just wanted to add that.

Star Trek fans will be very happy. Was not really happy with the Kirk/Spock scene in engineering as this has been done before. However, it was not to distracting as we are rewarded with many surprises.

This movie delivered. It had plenty of nostalgic references. The characters, the clothing, the ship(s), the technology, and the sets all were both reminiscent of the Trek we love, and yet fresh with new life. All the expected lines and scenes were properly played through. Each was treated with at least a dash of humor, but enough seriousness to keep the intense action flowing.
If you love Star Trek ... if you even just like Star Trek ... see this movie.

Wow, cheesy review title, great start. Give me a break it is 2:30 AM. If you love Star Trek, you will love it. If you didn't like the first movie, you may like this one. If you don't like action-adventure movies, you won't like this. I gave a 5 star rating to Iron Man 3, and I liked Star Trek 2 more than that. J.J. Abrams is a perfect fit for Star Trek, I think, and now for Star Wars too. He gives an energized enthusiasm to the making, tone, and mood of this series. The ending scenes were brilliantly made, and it can be lighthearted at times too. It is audacious and very action packed. The makeup and art direction were fabulous once again. If you even remotely liked the first one I would light the darkness and watch this one. Although you may like the first one better still I thoroughly enjoyed this one. (My friends were debating which one they loved more) I think I liked this one more, although I am undecided. They are quite different, but nothing completely objectionable. I liked the changes. It was a fun time. I was immersed into darkness, but the light shone through.

Builds very nicely off the first film...This one is full of action and surprises!! I can not overstate the incredible performance of Benedict Cumberbatch..He had HUGE shoes to fill and did so. Made the movie for me..VERY convincing. Wasnt really a fan of the first film..some of the decisions they made didnt sit well with me. Its grown on me over the last few years So I guess we will move forward with things as they are. That being said..Had a GREAT time seeing this! It was a BLAST!!
