I would recomend this movie to anyone even if they havent seen the first one. I have already seen it twice and i would see it a couple of more times. The movie itself is fantastic and i hope a third one is made.

The movie seemed like a remake of a remake to me. Perhaps since I watched the very first episode of of Star Trek as a teenager, the movie was made to help catch up an audience who didn't have the background. Hopefully we're now past that and we can get down to going where no "man" has gone before in future movies.

From the opening scene to the running of the credits this film was a satisfying experience of reliving the joy of the original Star Trek yet updated of course with dynamic special effects and sound. Keith Urban nearly steals every scene he's in with his spot-on interpretation of Dr Leonard McCoy as protrayed by Deforest Kelley in the original series. The characters of Chekov and Uhura were not used to their potential; that is a weakness. This story is of course a reimagining of the original series and borrows a plot point or two from the TOS movies. Nonetheless this story stands on its own. It's just plain fun. See it before it leaves the theaters.

Star Trek used to be about science fiction and interesting things that stretched the way we think about the present and the future.
This movie was written on a napkin while it was being filmed, like any quality Nickelodeon feature is constructed, lol. I think I can write a better script in 30 days !

This movie was the type of science fiction that was more fiction than science. There were problems with the science that the movie-makers seemed to just gloss over (probably thinking, "Hey, it's just a movie. Who cares if it makes sense?" that really bothered me. Setting aside Khan's "magic blood" for a moment, there were also issues of how long it takes to travel from Kronos to Earth. Is it 20 minutes, like they say at the beginning, or the 30 seconds it demonstrates near the end? Were they stopped from reaching their destination or not when the bigger ship caught them? They were going to earth, and they arrived, but it indicates that they were somehow knocked off course, or, at the very least, interrupted.
Then, of course, there's the fact that Khan's blood has magical healing powers, and they can't explain it. That's wonderfully mystical and all, but isn't he supposed to be the product of 300-year-old science? He's supposed to be some kind of genetically enhanced superman, right? So why wouldn't they be able to explain why his blood does whatever it's doing?
These problems and others were why I couldn't suspend disbelief to adequately enjoy this movie.

The Star Trek franchise reboot has everything I want in a movie – crisp dialogue, loads of humour, high-action plot, romance, nostalgia, engaging characters – and explosions. Lots, and lots of explosions.
As with the first prequel, the casting made the movie. Quinto has become the new standard for Spock, and Kirk fits Pine like a second skin. Simon Pegg's Scotty steals every scene he's in. Some day I hope they release an outtakes reel from the making of ST:ID – I'm betting the cast had *way* too much fun making this warp-speed gem of a flick.

Overall, this movie was full of action, and the story was pretty good. I do wonder why Bones would be messing with a Tribble at a time where there was a lot of other things going on. The Tribble scene seemed to come out of nowhere, and as soon as I saw what Bones was doing, it was obvious someone was going to need that blood at some point in the movie.
There was a time in the movie I was thinking why don't they all simply transport themselves off the ship, or have someone on Earth do it? Also, why not thaw out another of the frozen and use that blood? I suppose that would have been lacking in action even though it would have made more sense.
Still, we enjoyed this movie very much. Benedict Cumberbatch has been a favorite since I first saw him playing Sherlock. Coincidentally, after coming back home from seeing this movie, I was watching an episode of BBC's Agatha Christie's Marple, and there he was, playing a character in that show! Funny. He was great in that role, as well.

Recommended - Star Trek reboot is better than other star & space films.
...Though I do miss the original casts from BOTH Star Trek TV shows, this film delivers a great cinematic experience, and also continues the Trek legacy. Those TV cast films were far more nuanced, true to character, and intellectually stimulating. But since *money* must be made at the box office, the new Star Trek films are still better and more satisfying than everything else!!

I enjoyed it. It was very exciting. I enjoyed the story. There was one scene which made me upset because it kills off a very important character who is an entire episode of the original Star Trek. It won't mean anything to a non-Trekky, only to those who have watched the original series. Still, that really bugged me. That being said, it's a great ride and I do recommend it.

To be a great Star Treck story it must be more about the characters, their interaction than just special affects. We all want to believe in heros. In this case there's a starship full. The group dynamic is still growing and bonding as it did in the original. Anyone one who knows the words ""Five year mission to seek out new life, new civilization, to boldly go where no-one has go before" should jump for joy. Excellent movie! Lots of action and the storyline kept moving-no dull parts. Acting was great! Benedict Cumberbatch was an awesome evil guy! The returning cast was fantastic! Can't wait for the next movie!!

Some complain that the plot is too derivative from the older material. I saw it as a new take in a new world, much more applicable to today's times. Fun, exciting with humourous spots. Great popcorn movie.

I loved that this was a prequel to Wrath of Kahn. I loved the actor who played Kahn and the rest of the cast. Glad I didn't see it in 3-D with all of the action and cinematography. I would have been nauseous.

I use to watch the original episodes on tv when I was young.
