Charlie has to appear in court to sign over his parental rights to his former sister-in-law who happens to be loaded. Charlie is more than happy to sign over his parental rights for a monetary payment, but fate has other plans. The story unfolds from there... "Real Steel" has lots of action and intrigue. The movie is loud, noisy and crowd pleasing. Even in Robot Fighting there is the criminal element along with gambling on fights. You will be pulled into the story and find yourself rooting for one of those 2000 pound 8 foot robots. While the story is a bit corny, it's still ok!! "Real Steel" has a fighting chance.

This movie delivered more than I expected. It ended up being a great family movie. I hate boxing (hate it!) but the feel good- Disney like story made it well worth the time and money. My two boys (13 yrs and 11 yrs) and my husband all loved it. The special effects were fantastic. The couple of negatives (Punk Bad Ass characters) were examples of shallow acting and filling predictable characters into a scripted story line. That was unfortunate. The ok part was that kids most likely won't notice and it is just a time waste for thinking adults.

Special effects were fantastic!! This was a very good, but slightly long movie. I love the fact that Atom remained the same through the whole movie, he never changes, never gets "prettier" or anything like that. Great movie for the 10+ group. 'Real Steel' is a robotic remake of "Over the Top", right down to another Stallone reference when a robot version of Mr. T beats down Jackman's 1st robot. Hugh Jackman plays, Charlie, an absentee, deadbeat, has-been boxer, suddenly stuck with his son, Max, after the boy's mother dies. Rich relatives want Max enough to pay for him, and Charlie is low enough to sell the boy in order to buy a shiny new boxing robot. Of course that robot is also defeated and Charlie's future rest in the hands of his young son and a robot the boy dug out of the junkyard.
Jackman is prettier than Stallone, Dakota Goyo (Max) dances his way into your heart, and Atom the robot is a real steal; by the end of the movie you'll actually start thinking of him as real.
