Its not often that a movie that you have low expectations for, actually gets you to cheer aloud again and again, with the rest of the audience. The chemistry between the runaway dad and his reconnected son just simply works on every level. I loved this movie!
Set in the near future where robots fight as a form of entertainment, Hugh Jackman, a poor excuse of a fight promoter is on a quick spiral to palookaville when fate intervenes and he is reunited with a son he does not want but who helps him rediscover who he is. This film has so much heart it will take you by surprise and lift you up.
Although not great art, this movie is very much a winner. Give it a chance!

I took my 8 year old and his best friend (who is 9) to this Sunday afternoon. We have a Home Theater and I enjoy action and technology movies. They did a GREAT job at anthropomorphism with the Fighting Robots. Reminded me of a modern version of Johnny 5 which really got the adults into believing that the robots had human feelings.

This was a really amazing movie. Heartwarming and action packed. I would definitely recommend it to everyone. The only downfall was that there was no listing for the PG-13 rating; however, there is a lot of language throughout the movie.

I always read reviews before seeing a movie and many seemed negative of this film because it was too sweet, corny, or "family oriented." My expectations were not high but I had heard it had a good father/son message so I brought my 10 year old son along with me to see it. We both really loved it! It had a great message of fathers fighting for their sons and of sons following their dreams (and also reconnecting with their dads).
After seeing this film I am less trusting of the "professional" reviewers out there who would knock the family values of this film. Talk about missing the point!
The previous day I had seen Transformers (Dark Side of the Moon) and NOT with my son. What a night and day difference. Transformers was mind-numbing in it's action and sexually pushing the envelope (or just burning it at times) based on its younger target audience.
Reel Steal was honest, exciting, and positive. To be fair, I was disappointed with the surprising amount of profanity involved--both from the child character and the dad. I understand that it might have been true to both their characters, but I found it really unnecessary.
Profanity aside, this was a great father/son and even father/daughter film to attend.

A true feel good movie, you laugh, cry and cheer. The audience clapped at the end; I haven't seen that is quite some time. A real must see with the family.

Interesting concept for 17 years in the future. Loved the robot action, the most fun with robots in a movie that I've seen in a long time. Characters were likeable but some characters were too mean and violent for the under 13 crowd. Enjoyed it enough might go see it again.

Uses every cliche since the dawn of talking movies, but still has a good heart and likable characters and plenty of very entertaining robot action scenes. This is the way a real robot movie should be. I much preferred it over the cliched and very flawed Transformers movies. This one is more serious without trying too hard and yet still a lot of fun. The Transformers movies try to be too serious and aren't anywhere near as much fun.

The good news ... the action scenes with the boxing robots are outstanding and seamless. The bad news ... the story is pretty old, we've seen it before and there are lots of holes. Plus Hugh Jackman is just too pretty to make a credible bad guy.
But if you can suspend belief, and just sit back and enjoy the action, you'll probably like it.

We have been hungry for a good movie and this fit the bill. It was excellent in every way, the actors were just wonderful and for once the lady wasn't a tramp, but a real person of the heart. The little boy and Hugh Grant wonderful and the story was excellent. Go see and enjoy!

Real Steel: It is very rare that I rate a movie 5 stars. This is one of those movies. It had everything; great action, a growing romance, a great storyline, a great subplot, great acting, and whatever else you want to use as a criteria. I gave it 5 stars in every category. I can’t say enough about this movie. Go see it. I recommend it to everyone who is not offended by violence. My rating is 5 stars, or 10 out of 10.

I was very surprised by this movie. Honestly, I was checking out the movie because of Hugh Jackman because I'm not really a boxing fan; my Daddy is. Well, the Daddy in me LOVED this movie. The special effects looked effortless; the story line was good. I was actually cheering out loud and I'm usually not like that in public. :-) People even applauded during the movie; I haven't seen that in a long, long time.

I don't often review movies, but this movie is once again another Spielberg Masterpiece!! From the story line, to computer graphics and excellent acting, across the board this movie superseded all expectations.
When seeing the trailer months ago, my family and I thought it would be a good one, be we were pleased to discover that "Real Steel" is a GREAT One!!!!!

Great movie. Very "Rocky" like. The little boy was fabulous, but I could just as easily have seen that being a little tomboy girl in that role. The little boy was excellent. Lots of action, lots of cute/funny moments. Nice to see the relationship between many of the characters become better over time.

Real Steel is a great, feel good movie without being over-sweet with the "good guy wins" theme.
I'm a huge fan of "rock 'em sock 'em robots" so I was going to love this movie regardless of the acting -- or cliches. But I'm happy to report the acting was solid and believable and the cliches were uniquely done with a fresh angle.
My 8year old son was riveted (as his parents) from beginning to end. I love a movie that offers pain along with redemption and Real Steel offers a perfect balance with both. Would love for a RS2 but not sure if the originality of this movie would hold up for a sequel.
