To say that this movie has been the highlight of the year so far is a huge understatement. The first thing that comes to mind is the near flawless display of acting going on, the whole cast really shows up and gets to work. Next is the look of the movie and the tone that each new environment. Then there is the directing by Nolan, he has such a perfect eye for placing the shot and is able to edit and work through the various levels he has created so deftly. It would be very easy for many directors to be unable to negotiate the many shifting time zones, confusing the audience unintentionally, but Nolan's sureness really keeps the story together, but he also knows when to send the audience spiraling uncertainly in a new direction. Finally the story, which really asks more from an audience than most summer movies, or any movie in recent memory. It juggles a lot, and is willing to let the audience accept or reject what they are seeing as dream or reality. This movie I will most surely see again, soon.

In a summer teeming with tired remakes, reboots and sequels to find an original film with brains to spare and respect for its audience is refreshing, invigorating and frankly a relief. Cautious praise to Warner Bros for allowing him to make it, other studios take note: take some risks, the rewards can be great.
As for the film, it's quite a thrill ride. For me it zipped by in no time whatsoever, despite being complicated and sometimes difficult to follow. As a heist film it is immensely enjoyable, as a sci-fi mindtwister it is a resoundign success and as a summer blockbuster it will blow your socks off. Instead of throwing money at the screen and CGI at our eyes, Nolan takes the time to thrill us with something we've never seen before, The Matrix immediately comes to mind but this is a very different film. Enjoy it, I know I did!

Inception is one of those movies that only seems to come along once every decade or so. Every detail of the movie, from writing to casting, acting to directing, cinematography to sound effects, is so beautifully worked together that it leaves the viewer breathless. So often Summer movies suffer from too much hype and not enough where it really counts. Inception lives up to all the acclaim and all the praise and comes off as completely flawless. Nolan has shown his true talent with this film, and we should count ourselves lucky that we are able to witness his art unfold. Inception is absolutely a masterpiece in every sense of the word. I'm unsure whether anything would be lost NOT seeing it in IMAX, but if possible I think this is the best way of viewing it. Such a large film deserves a large screen and large sound system. The world's best meal will technically taste the same on paper plates, but if you have the option of fine china why not go for it.

This story is impressive in and of itself, but not as impressive as the coordinated way it was executed. As complicated as it sounds on paper or even vebal explaination, it is a masterwork blending clairity of story with it's own complexity. How they made this story so easy to follow is beyond me. This is probably the best blockbuster (i.e. not an independent film) to come out in the last ten years. It has everything: an exciting and fastpaced plot (with a storyline that actually holds together), great acting, mindblowing special effects, great music and settings. I saw it twice in one weekend--the plot is just tough enough to "get it" on the first see-through, but I really appreciated how solidly put together the plot was upon seeing it the second time. Hopefully this is a wake-up call to the rest of the big production companies that it is possible to make an intellectual action-thriller that grown ups want to see. I would spend a lot more time (and money) at the theater if I got to see more films like Inception!

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie from start to finish. The action sequences are incredible and the soundtrack is awesome; it sets the perfect tone for all of the scenes. I loved the storyline - or should I say storylines. DiCaprio's pain and need to redeem himself were felt strongly, though I think he could have been just a bit more obsessed with the mission (I'm trying not to give away too much). And the whole idea of creating ideas in people's minds was not new, but it was wonderfully executed - with a twist. There was a point during the end when I thought the movie was just going to be a more hyped-up version of Shutter Island, but that thought quickly faded. Or maybe it was just subconsciously replaced with another thought - Ha! Inception is long (2.5 hrs) but it keeps moving and doesn't really have any lolls. That was great for me because I usually get bored toward the end of films. And though I figured out one of the subplots before it was revealed, I loved the ending. It keeps you wondering long after you leave the movie. This was the first time in quite a while that I didn't mind paying $14 to see a movie. It was well worth it and I'll probably see the movie again so I can pick out all the stuff I missed the first time around. Go see it - you won't be disappointed!

Anyone can see this was a difficult movie to make. Also, a difficult plot to follow because reality and dreams are blurred creating a maze of dreams on top of dreams within dreams. The special effects are amazing. Viewing this movie in MAX is the way to see it. there was my life before inception and there is my life after inception .. i cannot stop thinking of this movie .. how lucky i am to be alive when movies have come this far . this is like looking at a moving mona lisa ... i cant stress to you enough please go see it. i love it with all my heart. both me and my partner both had back aches the next couple of days after watching because our mind and body were so engulfed in the emotion and pure beauty that this movie is. we left the movie theater out of breath and at a loss of words . we were some of the first few who saw it and upon exiting the theater there was a line around the building to watch the next showing. people in the line were looking to me for feed back as i exited the movie and i could not put together words .. my mind was still climaxing . you see so much in the commercial and yet you really see no part of the movie. The cast was gorgeous and the acting was some of the best of a few of the actors careers i think i can honestly say i will never see any thing remotely similar to this gift to my life of a movie . the media is calling this james bond meets the matrix .. but it is just so so so much more then that unjust description .

It plays with the idea of a future of alternate realities.. Artificial intelligence, "real" dream worlds... in any case wait a day or two and then think about the movie. The movie is clearly carried out in two phases: the first one lets you in on what the main character does, hints at the monsters in his closet, and assembles the team to carry out the biggest job of their lives. It is a strained attempt at generating feeling that something big will happen when they get to the second part. The second part is a three-tier dream with a distinct design at each level with an additional fourth one that appears when the bottom drops down.
For something as visually elaborate as this film is, it lacks a good character conflict. The action concentrates exclusively on the ever-changing and beautifully executed scenery, but the characters are rather two-dimensional and there is no tension between any of them. The only pseudo-villain that we encounter in the film resides within the main character, and the villainry is better represented through fear it generates in other characters that through its actions. The "villain" barks louder than it bites. The film is too heavily concentrated on the effects while lacking in basic character development. It ends up being too benign.
True, there are many good concepts that find representation in the film: the yoga of dreams, lucid dreaming, NLP techniques of programming people into doing what you want, etc. Any somewhat-read person would clearly see the roots of ideas in this movie. The off-the beaten-path-ness of the concepts does not make them brand new, though. And for anyone who reads, this is a rather opportunistic film in a sense that it capitalizes on the fact that most will never read a thing about lucid dreams or anything in that general area of knowledge, thus pitching its concepts to an average film-goer as something revolutionary.
This film feels like a mutant baby of "The Cell" and "The Matrix". It is fun to watch at times, although scenes with the main character and his wife are mercilessly stretched, well beyond what is necessary to deliver the idea.
It is amazing that the man whose subconscious is penetrated does not put up a better fight despite his training in dream security. On the second level of the dream he just surrenders and is led like a lamb to slaughter. And you say this man was trained to defend himself when someone invades his subconscious? That's a plot hole, and a big one. Besides, who better to play a well-equipped villain than Cillian Murphy? He needs more depth and more screen time than he was given this time around. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, on the other hand, is scrumptious and understatedly sexy, a hot brainiac who can even create a kick in absence of gravity. Now that is impressive. What's a kick? See the movie. Just don't expect too much, if you are a well-read, well-traveled old soul. If not, you are gonna love it.

I traditionally eschew the action-adventure genre in favor of drama, preferring intelligent plot lines, snappy dialogue and good acting over video-game graphics. That said, I found this movie was not just visually titillating but also extremely imaginative in its story line. DeCaprio's understated performance suggests he's much better when separated from Scorcese. The balance of the cast was also convincing, and Nolan does not allow any character, even our protagonist, to overshadow the story, which is fascinating. I also agree with the earlier review regarding the captivating soundtrack. I saw the film on IMAX, and highly recommend this venue.

I loved the movie. It's a good action flick but has great character development and complexity. Combine that with the amazing effects and you've got a wonderfully entertaining movie that keeps you guessing right up to the very last second.

Arguably Mr. Nolan's best film, Inception succeeds in engaging its audience, taking them for a thought provoking and emotional ride, and daring them to leave for a bathroom break. During a trend in film to leave audiences consuming spectacle (hi Avatar), Inception is a well needed reminder that films should leave the audience exhausted when the credits role. Far from perfect, the film is well worth the price of admission (twice for any cinephile). If anything less, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is elevated to cool (no joke; he is); which is a mind blowing accomplishment unto itself.
