I didn't know what to expect with this one, given the ambiguous hype and the makeshift casting, but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it for a Saturday matinee. If you like a "good vs evil" flick with tons of explosions and somewhat unexpected heroes saving the day, this movie is for you. A little predictable at times, but a treat on the big screen because of the special effects and action, a good popcorn movie for all but the youngest kids.

I was afraid I might be wasting my time and money, so was glad that I ended up enjoying this flick as good summer action entertainment. Are there flaws? Yes. Could it have been better? Probably. But when all was said and done, the action and special effects ended up making it good enough for me to like it. Also, there was no actual gore shown - just a lot of implied casualties, so it retained a kind of comic book sensibility that makes it possible to watch violence that would be unwatchable if it was real.

This movie is one of those that you want to walk out halfway through, but because you paid admission you wait it out. Once the credits roll, its like being dismissed from traffic school. You can't get to the exist fast enough. A very simple minded, lame, and embarrassing movie that will be in the five dollar rack at Wal-Mart soon enough. Don't let the misleading trailers fool you. Liam Neeson is only in it a few minutes despite being top billed. He should have his name removed from this piece of garbage. One of the worst blockbuster summer movies in years.

This was a fun movie. It did skip some main points I felt, here and there, most likely lost to editing, but overall an entertaining movie. If we're to believe in alien attackers from outer space, then we are to also believe a floating museum was left with live shells and powder charges that were still good and fuel. But that's OK, I had fun anyway.

My wife and I went to see Battleship last night and it was great. The special effects, the story (not all aliens are peaceful...grays). One of the opening comments by one of the scientist is something to the affect "this is going to be like Columbus and the Indians...and we are the Indians. As a vet I really appreciated the accuracy of the military items (uniforms, terminology, etc.). Again the US Navy has a great movie that will bring high recruiting returns.

A very good man movie.... Lots of action and guns...really big guns... ugly aliens.and a sexy leading lady.... My kind of movie.... This is the 2012 version of Independence Day, but Taylor Kitsch was no Will Smith, however he did a fairly good job. I do believe the script or story line sometimes hurt Taylor and the movie.....(the script stopped Battleship from being a great movie) Nice touch showing the WWII Vets and the Vet that lost his legs. All in all I like the movie, because it's my kind of movie lots of fire power and the good guys won! I will buy the DVD for my collection.....

This movie lived up to the hype. It has everything I enjoy in a summer blockbuster, PLUS actual war veterans and sailors! One of the important stars was a disabled vet who, while obviously not an actor, did an incredible job alongside the pros, and was an integral part of saving the planet. Actual retired war vets were brought in toward the end to also risk their lives and save the world. Mixing reality and fantasy made this movie as fun as it can get.
I gave it 3 stars for story for one reason only: it was not 100% clear what the aliens' intentions were. The audience was left wondering did they come to conquer? Were they calling for help or for more forces? Some of my friends actually felt sorry for the aliens because they "didn't want to kill humans." I disagree, but I wish it had been made more clear.
I will buy this on DVD!

I had high hopes for "Battleship" unfortunately it doesn't even come close to meeting my expectations!!
Remember the Hasbro board game called "Battleship"? Well the movie does loosely follow that game. It was believed that from the movie trailers "Battleship" was going to be a "Water Transformers", but that is actually not quite the case.
Dr. Nogrady (Adam Godley) believes that there is human life on a distant planet. An experiment is set in motion where at certain times of the day a satellite sends signals to a distant planet called "Planet 9". Little does anyone know, there is life on "Planet 9" and after receiving the signals from the satellite over the course of several days, "Planet 9" sends some of it's resources to earth. They crash land in the Pacific Ocean and just off the coast near Tokyo. The story unfolds from there...
Think of "Battleship" as "Space Invaders" vs. "Maritime Conflict". The positives of the movie are cool special effects, nice cinematography, and some intense action. The best humor in the movie involved a "Chicken Burrito". The negatives are the dialog. The dialog was horrible!! If you can't follow or understand the dialog, how are you going to follow and understand the movie. The only time the dialog made sense was when the battleship was plotting it's moves in the ocean like the Hasbro Game. What a waste of Liam Neeson's talents and an even bigger waste of cool special effects.
If you really want to see "Battleship" by all means do, but if you have something better to do this weekend wait for it on DVD or Blue-ray.

Battleship was AWESOME! It was like John Carter at sea! Hey! I really enjoyed John Carter! It's not my fault that America didn't get behind that film or that Disney spent way too much money on it!
Back to Battleship, it far exceeded my expectations! The story was gripping and the characters really got me involved in the action!
Not to mention the special effects! They were off-the-chain incredible!
It was definitely worth the trip to the theater and I left the movie thoroughly entertained!
Don't quite see much of a connection to the Hasbro board game. But oh well!
What more could I ask for in an action packed block buster?!

Look it's not going to win Movie of the Year or anything, but it's a great summer movie that you and friends or family will have a good time watching.
Also if you can go to a movie theater that has D-Box (d-box.com to learn more) makes it a killer movie.

Battleship is an alien invasion flick with too earnest dialogue and ear-splitting explosions. Yet, everything works: the special effects, the performances, the breakneck pace. Like "Transformers," which it rivals in relentlessness, "Battleship" comes with its own force field, a furious energy that renders criticism irrelevant. Battleship knows that it's big, dumb summer fun, and it doesn't pretend to be anything more. A must see.
