overstuffed dialogue..too much talk..story extremely weak! bad guys come out of no where. if their smart enough for all that technology, they'd be capable to communicate first ! It appears, liam neeson's presence would bolster the movie.. but for his being in it, proved to be more embarrasement due to his real stature as a magnet for practically any decent plot... i dont believe this movie deserved his presence.. i shudder to think of the $209 million cost to make this dud !!!

The movie was very good if you just want a good guy movie with lots of action and fast paced plot. Excellent effects. There is no back story on the invading aliens which I thought would have been a nice touch.

This is a great movie for us navy fans out there - it has the feel of a navy promo at times and the latter tie in to the "past" a bit gratuitous, but all in all, it is just plain fun!
You can't help but fill will exuberance to see the mighty ship battle with its alien nemesis. The power of this movie is akin to the power of the battleship herself and strong spirits that bring her might to bear on the alien ships.
In general, I feel that the battle ending was too abruptly transitioned to the standard naval ceremony and celebratory recognitions of valor etc. for our unlikely heroes. Which for me was disappointing really after such a climax. But I guess time and budgets played a role - I would love to see the director's cut,
The movie at certain points risks getting quaint in the way it struggles to stay believable which is why a few people may not of appreciated this movie. But if you like anything naval and sci-fi, then this combo is a blast!
Pros well paced, great story, strong characters, overcoming challenges, liam nelson : )

Taking what the Navy has done in the past with Battleships of recalling reitrees to bring the ship. Back to life was a joy as I can remember all those 70 - 80 year old men coming back to the Navy to bring the battleships out of mothballs,it was good to see the "old salts" coming to the rescue.
The story had some minor problems but once it got going outstanding . Loved the science fiction side.

This is a long movie, but it's worth every minute. It begins a tad slow, but that's the end of that. After the first 5-10 minutes, it's action through out.

I enjoyed every moment of it. Would like to have seen more of liam. All the characters thought of others more then themselves. I liked the team work of the 2 countries trusting each other. The first thing I noticed was just how the entire intro seemed to be about promoting the Navy. I'm a Navy man myself and support the military but not during a movie. The entire first 20 minutes was worthless and no point minus a small burritto joke at the end of the movie. The graphics were great, good action and special affects but the plot was seriously lacking. Another great point, at no time did the Aliens declare war on the US. Infact thorought the entire movie their actions were stricktly reactive to them being attacked first. The only aggressive action I saw was the taking out of the highways. There was no clear direction from the aliens side of things and overall the movie just felt very sloppy.

This movie was so much better than we anticipated. So good, in fact, that we are going to see it again this weekend. We never see a movie twice while it is in the theater. That is how great it was. Loved the little detail of the bombs sent by the alien ship were in the shape of the pegs from the Battleship game. Too cool!!!!!!! This movie is now my favorite! I cannot wait for the weekend to get here so I can go see this movie again. This will be one we buy the day it is released.

Interesting plot. Don't often recommend watching sci-fi / love story plots, (usually better if the movie is focussed on one or the other). This one was very good becasue the sci-fi graphics were above board, and as a result, outweighed the underlying love story (which we ultimately could have done without.) The acting was alright.

FUN, VERY ENTERTAINING MOVIE.
BEING AS I AM EX-NAVY I FOUND SOME OF THE THINGS A BIT OF A STRETCH BUT OVERALL THIS MOVIE WAS A FUN, EXCITING SCI-FI MOVIE.
IT DOES MAKE US WONDER IF WE SHOULD BE TRYING TO CONTACT JUST ANYONE THAT COULD BE OUT THERE IN ALL THAT VAST SPACE!
GO TO THIS ONE AND HAVE A GREAT TIME, CHEERS!

Laughing for the chicken burrito portion of the movie, fists clenched, tears streaming down my cheeks, rooting for the good guys during the last 2/3s of the movie.
The science they used to setup the premise of the movie was believable.
No words to adequately describe how good the special effects were.
The director got award winning performances out of all cast members.
I felt good when this movie ended. A b s o l u t e enjoyment.
