...that this movie changed my life.
As a young Persian man, who was born and raised in the USA and has never visited the country of his parents' birth, I want to sincerely thank anyone and everyone involved in making this film and bringing it to a theater near me.
The tears that fall onto my keyboard as I write this brief review are a clear testament to not only the sheer power of your work, but how desperate many young Persian-Americans, including myself, are to see genuine, positive and tempered representations of themselves.
To call my experience while watching "No One Knows..." revelatory would be an understatement. I was able to feel, see and understand, for the first time, that I am not alone.
Thank you Bahman Ghobadi, the whole cast and crew, and IFC Films.

This movie has a real life feel to it since it was shot on location with real people as actors in only 17 days. However it is not a documentary since it injects a plot into these musicians’ lives, a plot that is the most important issue facing young Iranians today. The limitations in Iran from both governmental and economical perspective leave the educated young with a deep desire to leave Iran to pursue their dreams. This movie leaves you thinking and wanting to do more for these kids. The clips from everyday life in Tehran are amazing and allow for the viewer to get a feel of what a normal person would see on a daily basis living and commuting in the city. I actually grew up in Tehran and was lucky enough to leave when I was 16. The movie brought back many memories. I only wish that some of administration officials, congressmen, or even Obama would watch this movie and would open their eyes to the truth in Iran. The broad sanctions and refusal to engage only strengthen the right wingers ability to use United States as an enemy and to clamp down on the democratic forces. The visa limitation enforced as whole on Iranians leave even the most pro American families disillusioned and with no way out. The lack of opportunities has lead Iran to have the highest drug addiction rates. We need to open the cultural exchange doors to the young Iranians who are a talented and educated bunch who could help us with our shortages especially in the medical arena. These kids are wholly on the side of Americans and it would be a shame to look back in 10 years and see them gone to waste.

This movie gave a view of Iran that most people will never see. The political tensions and civil unrest, that one most associates with Iran, is not showcased. Rather, the daily life, and the passion that the young musicians have is the focus of this movie. The acting is great, the music is even better. The only complaint I have is that the camera shots were out of focus at times. I would highly recommend this film to my friends.

Not many Americans get a chance to know what Iranian society is really like these days, except through film. "No One Knows About Persian Cats" is a poignant yet often humorous glimpse into the undergound music scene in Tehran. Based on a true story, the film depicts various indie rock artists, and their struggle against harsh censorship as they pursue their passion through whatever means they can. The movie includes, a great soundtrack in Farsi and English.
