Documentaries of this type are always put in a precarious position of trying to appeal to the masses vs truly keeping to the purity of the sport/focusing on the niche market. Unfortunately as much as we all want the latter, the latter isn't going to sell tickets or grow the sport. Let's face it, would you really be interested in a average 48 yo trying to finish a 100 mile race. With that said, I was delighted to see the David vs. Goliath story being told on the mountain bike. Yes, in the end Goliath wins the race, but the imagery and the beauty of how the mountain bike and the average athelete is portrayed is a win for the sport. I would definitely recommend this to anyone interested in human perseverance and self empowerment.

Enjoyable movie to watch, but producers spent too much time following and interviewing Lance. Way too many personal stories and history of the race that were missed and not enough footage of the "average Joe" riders who toughed out the grueling 100 miles. Inspiring movie, nonetheless.

What I feared: a Lance love in. There were 1399 other racers there w/ incredible stories of determination who dedicated their ENTIRE year preparing for this 1 race, & all they could do was capitalize on him? Injury, rain, snow, time away from family- each of our sacrifices were great to get to the start line, not to mention the finish line. Favorite parts were those w/o him because the race belongs to all of us who ever dreamed about it, attempted it, or finished it. What about sharing the history of the early years of the race including old photos & video? AND WHY WASN"T REBECCA RUSCH ON THAT STAGE? Amazing shots from the air that captured the vast & foreboding landscape we traversed. If it helps the town, I guess it was a success.

Lance is a machine... of course. But the civilians who persevere to finish such an arduous challenge are the heart of this story. The 100 mile mtn bike race has eclipsed 'running a marathon' as the new ultimate personal challenge. Hopefully, this movie will spread the word and inspire millions to get pedaling... another avenue to saving the planet. Mtn bikers are environmental diplomats that innately understand the human spirit and our fractured connection to nature. Those who pedal know what is important.

A surprisingly good film - it turned out NOT to be merely a vehicle for Lance Armstrong. (Who, incidentally, took a shot at Alberto Contador in it. Hey Lance, El Pistolero would've kicked your butt in Leadville, too.)
The film is very inspirational and fun to watch. I am reluctant to give it five stars only because it was a bit shorter than it had to be. A few story lines should’ve been addressed in more detail.
Video quality was good, though I remain skeptical of Fathom's high definition claims. Sound was an issue: Background music from the surround speakers was loud and crisp, but dialogue coming from the center speakers was noticeably lower in volume and clarity. I suspect this is an issue with the feed itself and not the theater.

I was blown away by the documentary! The race’s exceptional beauty, bravery, heart and soul of each and everyone of those riders stories is truly an inspiration to the human spirit and determination. It was a powerful and emotional journey for the audiences and thank you for sharing it with us. Please consider showing the movie again. After reading the reviews and word of mouth I am positive more people will want to see this movie, some more than once. The documentary was phenomenally done. This movie highlights the indelible strength and perseverance of athletes like Lance, and those that we have not heard of, like Roxanne Hall. The cinematography was great, but the short snipets on the "unknown" riders was what made this a great movie. It is proof that the human spirit is indestructible and that all of us when pushed, can go further and endure more than we thought possible. I would recommend this movie for cyclists, athletes, and/or anyone who has ever felt like giving up.

While a good movie, this film could and should have focused more on the racing rather than on the "feel good" factor. Racing is what many came to see. There were several very good riders who we never saw race with the exception of in the beginning. Watching these guys and gals through the technical sections of the race would have been very inspiring. I would say see this movie, but if you going to see a race film, prepare to be somewhat disappointed.

Excellant documentary. The movie never lagged and took the time to interview multiple racers while sharing their stories. Couldn't imagine starting at 10,000 feet and continuing UP through the cold, wind, and even a hail storm!!
Some people complain because some portions of the movie are focused on Lance. Quit whining, the man broke the record by nearly a half an hour and did the last 7 miles with a flat!! I think he's earned a little attention in this movie. You think this movie would have been as good or would have gained in its popularity if Lance wasn't there and featured??

Overall this was a good way to spend a Thursday evening. I enjoyed it a lot. I did think that some of the story lines about the everyday people in it where a little forced and under develop, but when you have a turn around time like this of only a few months you will have things like that. They showed some guy that looked to have crashed and was getting medical attention but you never find out what happen to him or how he was doing. I would love to find out what happen to him.I do think this video showed what this race is all about. It not all about the stars that race it, but the everyday people that make this race happen and those who try and race finish this race.

This film is incredible! After watching "Race Across the Sky," I felt more determined than ever to complete a major athletic event, such as the Leadville or Ironman.
We are shown stories that are both thrilling and motivational: from the early leader and pace-setter, Matt Shriver to the awe-inspiring story of Roxanne, a woman who overcame devastating injuries. She was hit by a car in 2008, and went on to compete in the 2009 Leadville, with a fantastic recovery and a lot of heart.
This would be a great family film, a film for a group of athletic friends, or for anyone who just needs a little inspiration to push themselves further than they ever thought possible. I give this film my highest possible recommendation.

Fantastic film! Thoroughly enjoyed watching all the action unfold. I couldn't believe the pace the lead riders were partaking- surreal! The only criticism I have about the film is that I was disappointed Rebbeca Rusch (1st place women's division) was not in the interview. Now it could have been she couldn't make it due to a scheduling conflict or something else but it would've been nice to see her get the limelight she deserves.

Very emotional story of personal triumph over adversity for the riders who were not t he top 5 -10 finishers and their battle to finish the race. Lance's story was a good backdrop and his use of other riders to help him win was a good use of strategy--taking a lesson from the Tour on to a MT Bike race...more video of the race and less talk would make it even better.

If you like cycling then you will love this movie. Whether you ride mountain, road, cross, tri, whatever, it is a fun and informative (and inspiring!) movie. It gives you the visuals for what you've imagined Leadville must be like, and learning about the founders is one of the most interesting parts.

if you love Lance Armstrong, this is another Lance-show for you. I wanted to see more of the real people in the race--where were the women?! Only a few were highlighted. Did he make the movie? Seems like it was just another documentary in the amazing life of one of the largest egos on the planet.

In the spirit of Ironman, Badwater ultrarun, swimming across the English Channel, and other long-distance human challenges, this movie rocks! It was great to see Lance outside his "element"! I don't think Dave Wiems got enough credit for how this guy carried the race on his back for 6 years.
Leadville is a town where it's not "Only the Strong Survive", it's "Where you need to be Strong just to Live"! No joke, the altitude will get ya. Point of fact, no reigning Tour de France winner has been able to WIN this race! Lance had to race TdF, just to get his fitness up to win this pig! Awesome.
I would love to see a movie on the Leadville 100 RUN--that would be great.
Go see this movie and get inspired.

Im glad I saw it! I do wish to have seen the other panel members filmed a bit more, the successes and struggles they were going through during the race. Don't get me wrong, the focus on Lance is always needed and the overwhelming emotional stories made it very difficult for me to hold back tears. The Holy Moly moments, the amazing stretch of trail where Lance is truly racing across the sky, Get you pumped, to train and push yourself to do your most, your best, and to test your own limits. The question I am sure we are all asking, Where do I sign up?
