I think Avatar represents a new kind of movie, in the same way that Starwars was a new kind of movie. The technology displayed was amazing, and the presentation was awesome. If you have any interest in Science Fiction or technology, this is a must see movie. One hint, the movie runs 2 hours, 40 minutes; start out with an empty bladder.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I avoided seeing Avatar, because to be honest the trailer didn't impress me all that much. I became interested in the story line from what friends who had seen it shared, however, and decided to give it a go.
The 3D is subtle, free of gimmicky objects jumping out at the screen. It's a real, organic experience that made me feel like I wasn't even sitting in a movie, but witnessing the story through my own eyes.
Overall, the story is solid, timely, and one that has been repeated countless times throughout human history outside of a sci fi setting. At times I really felt connected with the characters, even though many were huge blue cat like creatures.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This is one of the best movie experiences I have ever had. My son and I loved every minute and were in awe at the end. I may have to upgrade my home theater to prepare for its eventual arrival. Another winner from Mr Cameron!

This movie is great, I cant wait to see it again. However I will never see anything in 3D again, in some of the shots it looks fine but in others it looks really bad, I found that it took away from the movie. Luckily for me it didn't give me a headache but I know a few people that did get a headache from the 3D. I think 3D is gimmicky and a fad, I hope it goes away sooner then later.

On twitter I've heard some people saying they were expecting too much and there was no story so I just thought I was in for special effects, little did I know it would be a really involved story with strong resonation in todays topics. There are references to war and peace, a lost connection to nature, the environment, spirituality and a love story beautifully tied in. I don't want to give it all away, but there's more there than I expected with lots of action. I don't think many people will be sleeping through this one ;)

One of the best movies ever; a bit of everything (war, action, sci fi, mystical/magic). It was like 3 movies in one. Some scary and violent parts, but no worse than most video games.

Avatar was overall a good movie but not as great as people have been screaming. The special effects are amazing but the plot was very basic. I honest think that it is a combination of 1992’s FernGully and Disney’s 2001 Atlantis just a little fancier. Okay, a lot fancier but the same overall plot.
It’s worth seeing on the big screen but don’t waste extra money on the 3D effect. It doesn’t add anything to the movie.

The movie was better than I expected. I am usually not a fan of 3D movies, but I saw this in 3D and it was great. The 3D glasses have a light gray tint instead of those old green and red ones...The plot, special effects, and acting were all good.

Granted this movie has a fairly predictable plot, it is simply the most stunning movie going experience I think I've ever had. I was concerned that all the hype would just lead to a let down, and I was unimpressed by the previews- but I was left speechless by this mega-blockbuster. You really do have to see it to believe it, and believe it you will.

This movie completely mesmerized me and kept my attention throughout. There is the uncanny ability of movies like this to grab you by the throat and ask why it is that we cannot live in a world such as theirs' without causing problems for others and without social degradation.
Greed is such a powerful tool and I would like to think that those viewing this movie take into account the fundamental moral question that is asked and incorporate it into their lives somehow.

I saw Avatar in 3D and thought it was amazing!
The creativity of the characters and the world they live in went beyond my imagination. I would go more indepth but I don't want to spoil the movie for those who have not seen it. This one of the best movies I have ever seen. It went beyond my expectations. New man on the Hollywood scene Sam Worthington is someone to look out for. He's great! There something special about him and I can wait to see what other movies he is going to make.

Definitely a must see in 3-D. The plot reminds me of a mix of "Dances with Wolves" (Lt. Dunbar is "adopted" by the Souix, with their reverence for nature), "Return of the Jedi" (the primitive Ewok defeat a technologically overwhelming military force), and "Jurassic Park" (pesky pre-historic creatures). However, the film does break ground with its special effects and will be a benchmark for films to come. Although the film is 2 hours 40 minutes long, it moves along quickly. An entertaining experience.

As previously stated by another review, I too feel this is like the Star Wars of the 70's. I made the same analogy to a friend of mine. The cost is too high for today’s economy and unfortunately many families won't see this in the theater. Who can afford amusement park prices to see a movie. A milestone it is, but family priced it is not.

Here is how to expiain this movie to a new viewer. "Star Wars" meets "Dances with Wolves" with "Titanic" soundtrack. Totally , however, a different looking flick than anything you have ever seen. Characters very shallow...story very shallow but you are right there in the land of Pandora and it's worth the ticket.

Initially, the director/producer drew me to the movie as my husband and I are fans; however, I could not take my eyes off this delicate, dangerous world James Cameron has created. The story is ancient; however, Cameron's view of it will capture you completely; never taking from your imagination, but adding to what already exists! You MUST see this on the big screen. The 3D effect was absolutely breathtaking!

I took my two youngest kids (boy aged 8 and girl age12) to see this in 3D with me and my wife. My 12 year old daughter was worried about seeing the battle scenes, she doesn't like themes of war or killing. She didn't get scared like she thought she would. She enjoyed the movie. My 8 year old son thought it was very good, but he didn't think the 3D was as good as it has been for some of the other animated 3D movies we have seen such as UP and Monsters vs Aliens.
I liked the 3D, the jungle setting would have been less entertaining without 3D.

Like Star Wars in 1978 - Avatar will set a new standard in film and cinema - The Storyline was a classic told many times, However, digital and 3D will mark this movie in the future as the film that set a new standard, look for more 3D films and new theaters being built (just like 1978) to show these films - hopefully that will help bring down the ticket price (lost 1 star for me, because of cost)
Yes, I recommend this movie.
