It's been a long time since I've wanted to walk out of a movie, but this pointless big screen video game underpinned by an utterly predictable plot and an overdose of new age silliness had me squirming in my seat after 20 minutes. The action sequences toward the end were slightly entertaining but didn't in any way justify sitting through the first 90 minutes. The extra couple of bucks I paid for 3D was a complete waste. I've seen black and white sci-fi movies from the 1950's that gave a more satisfying and impressive 3D experience. I went to see Avatar hoping it could suck me in somehow, as many people had suggested. Instead, it just sucked. One of the worst movies I've ever seen.

The story was good. The concept was thought provoking. The action was cool. The actors were well cast. If that was the end of the review, then you may decide to wait for the DVD, BUT BUT BUT in 3D, on the big screen, this movie was an event. A new kind of entertainment. Terrific in all respects! When surround sound with LFE became available it was a "no nonsense" REAL improvement in our movie experience--so too with HD. However, having been burned with previous attempts at 3-D I was doubtful the technology was sufficiently developed. The tipping point was James Cameron--man has a 20 pound brain. I splurged $40+ for my wife and I and hoped for the best...I got the best! (But do need better glasses.)

I remember the days of the "Red & Blue's" and the Digital days, Then came Imax & Hd, and now we are seeing the new Amazing age of 3D and Amazing It is !! I really had no expectations for this movie. I didn't even know what it was about. I only went because it was a friend's Birthday and this is what he wanted to see. Well, I am so glad I went to see this movie. Visually, it is stunning! And, the story held my interest throughout the entire movie. I had worried about being able to sit through a 2 hour and 40 minute movie, but I never looked at my watch even once the whole time. I plan to go see it again, this time in the IMAX theater, and I cannot wait!

I am not a big movie goer, so it really needs to be something special to get me to the theatre. This movie delivers in spades. There were so many visually exciting things going on in this movie such as the Avatars and planet Pandora. It was also incredibly creative: the language of the Pandorans and the links to the Dreamwalkers. However, the story was a dumbed-down version of the great movie, The New World and the story of Pocohontas - altho in this case Pocohontas is not betrayed by her lover and there is a chance the Pandorans will survive - until the next group of nasty, greedy humans arrives.
This movie is perfect for those who want adventure and fabulous effects. For those looking for a really gripping story, get it on Netflix - the 3D just wasn't that spectacular.

I didn't expect to enjoy this movie at all--it was just a little over-hyped for my taste. But the special effects were so stunning and realistic--and that's not something I typically place a lot of emphasis on. I will say that the "bad guys" were such over-the-top caricatures of what they represented, that it insulted my intelligence a bit. That being said, I found myself really identifying with the characters and getting lost in the story. Overall, I really enjoyed it. NOT appropriate for little ones, though.

One of the best movies i have seen in a long time! I saw the 3D version and it was mostly a wonderful experience Really a great story...some violence but none that was not necessary for the story line. (The 3D glasses could be improved...always seemed a little cloudy, even tho I used my microfiber cloth on them...and is 3D supposed to make the colors duller?)

Whatever little weaknesses there might be in the plot, the visual spectacle is unlike anything I have ever experienced. This is something new and wonderful. A must see.

I did not think I was going to like this movie at all. I hated Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter but thought I would see it just to keep up with the world. I was very surprised. I loved this movie. I can't keep the visuals out of my sight and it has been 3 days since I saw it. The music was so suttle and perfect like waiters in a 5 star restaurant. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time..........and it went very very fast. It did top Titantic and that was thought to be impossible. Thank you film makers of the best kind!
