Yes, the 3D is AMAZING! But I believe the colors and characters are what make this movie unlike anything you've seen! Nothing compares to it. The story is great, but should remind you of a certain movie, which I will not mention. This movie will truly set a new stardard. The ONLY negative that I can think of is the pointless reference to smoking. Did James Cameron really need a check from the cigarette companies?

Pros: Great CGI & use of 3D. No 'in your face' gimmicks. Acting was very good. Background visuals were stunning, as were the Na'vi and flying creatures.
Cons: Plot line was a bit thin. Environmentalism and anti-war on terror political messages. Explanation for Jake's ending up on Pandora was pretty lame. Also, why did Jake wait so long to be transformed into a Na'vi after he found out it could be done? But it did add to the dramatic ending.
Conclusion: This is a must see for sci-fi/fantasy film fans. One may wonder if humans are so bad, why does James Cameron take their money and spend in excess of a $230 million to entertain them. Hypocrite.

This movie was great! The digital 3D was the best I've seen and the colors were intense. The plot was based on an old standard where an American (humans) "bad guy takes a liking to the Pandora people (aliens), becoming one of them, and eventually helping them defeat their oppressors. Avatar may be a little long for younger viewers, but the non-stop action actually makes the time go by fast. See it!

I wonder why AMC calls it IMAX 3D when it's on a regular screen, not the REAL IMAX... misleading, to say the least.
The film per se is like Lawrence of Arabia on LSD. Usual cast of stereotyped characters: the greedy corporation, the poor, simple natives, the bloodthirsty military guy.
Reminds you of an old film about indians sitting on a lode of oil and Wall Street tycoons pushing the cavalry to remove them.
Aside from that, special effects galore, and so realistic, if you suffer vertigos, you'll be sick the entire film.

To get a 5 Star rating, a movie has to have everything ... good acting, storyline, etc. I can't possibly imagine anyone wanting to see this movie any other way. The 3-D adds so much more to the movie. For those who are concerned with headaches, etc that you are hearing about ... try NOT watching the 3-D without the glasses ... THAT will give you a headache.
I'm glad to see James Cameron back and I'm sure he'll provide us a sequel. The story line seemed to follow much the same as Dances With Wolves, I thought, but with a futuristic theme.

Best graphic ever, definitely watch it in 3D (digital), totally worth the extra $4. Storyline was okay, predictable but James Cameron made it fun and exciting the whole time. There is not a dull moment and I was constantly amazed by the beautiful imaginary world presented in the film. The movie was long, 2 hrs and 40 minutes but it feels like a 1.5 hr movie things were moving so fast and I was so captivated. Overall, great cinematic experience.

An excellent movie. The use of movie making technology in new ways gives a visual experience that is second to none. Not unlike the trend setting movie Star Wars in terms of setting new levels of the film making craft. Very worth seeing more than once.

Avatar, I am use to having to amagine much of the story to get really into it. This took no imagination on my part. It seemed as real as anything. 2 hrs and 40 min went by in no time, it wasn't to long nor to short. It was just right. It was the best movie I've ever seen. I enjoyed the attempt to get people to open their eyes to our planets needs, I hope everyone that sees the movie will come away with a greater sense of the world around them.

The special effects alone are worh the price of addmission and sitting for 2 hours and 40 minutes, That said, I can't help but make the connection between Avatar and Pocahantas, the story line is a tried and true one but with a twist and it's very good in my opinion but toward the end of the second hour, my body wanted to get up, I did not though because the beauty of this movie and the special effects made it impossible to leave...we all clapped at the end of the Movie....the entire audiance clapped, wow how cool is that? This was my second viewing, I had wanted my Son and his girlfriend to see Avatar and it was worth every penny even the second time around!

I loved this movie! I was skeptical when I first was invited to go and watch it, and certainly didn't think I would enjoy the sci-fi fantasy as much as some people, but I was blown away by Avatar. It was a film unlike anyother! I only wish I had seen it in Imax instead of 3-d!
I hope that when I go to sleep I turn into my Avatar haha :)
