I enjoyed it visually, and there were some parts where imax really shined, but for the most part it was a child learning childhood lessons and overcoming his fears. Not saying that adults don't deal with these issues sometimes too, but all i'm saying if i was 10 or 11 I would've LOVED this movie! I got kinda bored so i'm gonna give it a 4, but for a child it would be very emotional and ultimately empowering. I would walk out of that theatre feeling like i could take on the world!

So many times in the movie you're shown a boy looking at sincere creatures searching unendingly for hope- and what does the director give you? He shows scene after scene of the young self pronounced "King" (from a dysfuntional family of course) just staring up with a dumb founded look. His best answer to almost everything life brings to people trying to get through real life issues is to dress up in something we are not- and start screaming. Well, guess what- as in real life- he (like many of us do) leaves these moments just as he found them, and runs back to his Mom's arms, as many grown-ups wish they could do in these trying times. The visuals are outstanding- there was no acting- IMax made the pic worth my time.

Me and my two little boys, ages 6 and 4, went to see it in the IMAX theatre and we LOVED it. My boys have a very difficult time being still and they sat through the complete movie with their mouth hanging open. My 4 year old asked if he could be a king when he grew up and they both admitted to tearing a little at the emotional parts...That little boy did a terrific job and I can not wait to see the movie again and again.....And plan to buy it as soon as it comes out!!!!

It's the next morning and I still haven't come down from the high of Wild Things on IMAX! This movie was creative, magical, bizarre, and simple just like the original work. Those looking for a reserved, straight-forward, feel-good interpretation of the book may be surprised. But those expecting a courageous, mysterious, thought-provoking yet exceedingly simple translation will not be disappointed. Your heart will be warmed and broken a few times over in the course of 90. I'm not a movie critique, but I was thoroughly entertained for 1.5 hours. Way different than I expected. I was expecting a live action kids movie with big cuddly creatures, more along the likes of Hook. Instead I got a deep movie about being a kid and dealing with all the problems of family. I would question if this was even meant for kids younger than 9 yr.

I went into this movie not knowing what to expect. What I didn't expect was for the movie to be as deep as it was. Covering many aspects of human (or better yet, childish) emotions, "Where the Wild Things Are" was a movie that captured my heart and imagination in the same way the book had done years ago. The story that was created from the 8 lines of the original was very fitting, and everything flowed very well together. And Max Records did an amazing job in his acting. For the kids, it's a fun-filled adventure. For the adults, it is a look back into our childhood, reminding us what it really feels like (in an emotional sense) to be a child again.

The movie was beautifully shot and technically well made but ultimately it failed to impress. There were many beautiful moments in the film but they felt fragmented. The dialogue was uninteresting and nothing new was brought to the table. The one thing that really stood out was the idea that the entire movie was about being a kid and told from a kid's point of view. With that in mind, it could explain the lack of cohesion. I felt it would have made a better short film. Perhaps kids will feel more attachment to it.

The movie was great.. The IMAX sound made the movie even more engaging. The monsters looked amazing. I was a little sceptical about the voices, but they were well done. James Gandolfini (sp?) did a good job as the main monster Carol. The story was well written which is was surprised about due to the books short length. The boy who played Max is destined for more work in Hollywood. He is a fantastic actor. The only problem I had with the movie was that it seemed like they cut some of the story out of the movie to keep it at a shorter running time. There was one monster that was not fully developed. Other than that it was great to be able to see a favorite part of my childhood on the big screen!

Finally! A movie based on a book that I've actually read! The story for the movie Where the Wild Things Are is a fun and touching expansion of a moment in the life of our 1963 children's book hero, the sweet, misunderstood, raucous Max. Every little boy or girl who just wants to have fun and wants everyone else to be having fun was embodied in Max. His escape to 'where the wild things are' allowed the movie viewers to come along with him. I was happy to accompany our protagonist to his mystical forest and was there beside him when he was crowned king, and cried with him when he made his decision to either go home or not. The monsters were fantastic and beautifully true to the original book's illustrations.

This movie is beautiful, true to the feeling of the book while not being too limited, tender, and sad but hopeful at the same time (a rare feat).
It could be a bit scary at points for very wee kids but in general I hope people of all ages see it!
