The movie was great! AND it was close to the book. The storyline was good yet the animitronics were priceless!

I haven't read the book recently, but it seemed to stray quite a bit. It is more of a psychological interpretation in that the boy resolves his issues, but the viewer doesn't get completion with the wild things. Very sweet, beautifully-made production, but the whole film has a slightly sad undertone. Very well cast and wonderfully acted. Max Records is amazing. Enjoyable for adults as well.

This movie was so good, i barely know where to start..The costumes / animatronics were fa-nominal! The story was perfect. I was so stunned by the sets also. The fort and the birds nest home...I just couldn't believe the detail they went to. And the boy! Wow, just everything came together to make a perfect and awesomely amazing movie!

my bf's fav kid book & he fell asleep.plot was stupid and had no real storyline. it could have been a lot better, and it was a bit inappropriate for children, that Claire wild thing had serious and disturbing anger problems.boring. I am not a parent but I wouldn't want my child watching this movie. I couldn't wait for it to be over. the whole "staying together" and "sadness" dilemmas from the wild things had no explanation and the fight between KW and claire was also stupid, two owls that can't talk, not funny either (you have to have watched it to understand). I know its based on a children's book, but there is no comparison as a great movie such as Disney's Up or like Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.wait & rent it at the $1 redbox

If you are having issues with your preteen acting out, I recommend you go to see this together. The movie itself is too complex and dark for young, young kids, (tho the 'wild things' are quite well done), but some of the subtext could initiate dialogue leading to understanding between the parent and child. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie as a adult. 16-21 yrs old and kids under 8 would probably get bored or think it was lame.

According to the media, the studios were terrified because they couldn't understand the plot arch. I don't know if the final film is substantially different because of their concerns, but the plot is clear, the pace is good...
Like Jonze's previous work, this is a piece of art disguised as popular media. The set design is brilliant, the minimal dialog is poignant... so much so that my heart hurt for Max, for every adolescent, for myself. This is a film about our messiness, about our fragility.
There were intense scenes, intense emotions. Max Records was up to the task. His appearance on Friday's "Tonight Show" was a little off-putting (he seemed very uncomfortable)... Whatever Spike did on set, it worked. The kid was magical.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Compared to the book... movie was a bit sad/depressing and violent...my 3 year old boy was fascinated with the monsters but the movie was slow for him and he got fidgety and bored during the emotional parts. Would not discourage long time lovers of the story from checking out the screen adaptation but for the kids I might not recommend. The IMAX experience was great!

Excellent movie! Well worth the extra money to see it in IMAX.
As much as my 3-year old granddaughter loves the book, I will NOT take her to see this movie. I would not recommend it for any kid younger than 8 or 9. It's dark and complex and there's a bit of violence.
Other than that, one of Spike Jonze's best efforts.

Above all, this is not a movie for children. Although the star is nine, this movie is far too disturbing for a child his age.
The whimsy of Sendak’s book is what has made this bittersweet tale loved by parents and childrens.
The film is almost unremittingly depressing. The few minutes of fun serve only to highlight the angst of the characters as the soundtrack emphasizes how hard and unlovely life is, even in a world of wonder.
The effects and visuals are marvelous. Look for the DVD just for the “making of”, but I cannot imagine any circumstances in which I would watch the movie again.
On the other hand, even my two pre-teen boys re-read Sendak's book to wash away the bitter after taste.

I took three grandkids to Wild Things. The 5 year old did not like the Wild Things characters (too big, sad and grumpy) and wanted to go to the lobby. The 8 year old was bored and interested in candy and popcorn and the ten year old hid under his coat and played games on an iphone. You can't take a book that has text barely a page long and make an hour and a half movie. It was an adult allegory of childhood fears - not for kids at all.

I was very impressed with the realness of the creatures. Good story line too. Teens & Adults may really enjoy this movie (especially if they were childhood fans of the book) but... WARNING! The story is rather dark with disturbing issues and scenes that are pretty scary for smaller kids. My 6yr old granddaughter loves scary movies and has seen 'The Mummy', 'The Fly', etc and thought this movie was kinda scary!!! So consider the child's age and 'fear factor' before taking them.

This was a children's film. My date wanted to see it because of the strong reviews. Both of us felt the same. Not much of a plot. If it was a DVD, I would've shut it off after 20 minutes. But after $30 for 2 IMAX tickets, I felt a bit more vested to see the whole thing. Zzzzzzzzzzzz

First Time at Imax loved it. I will see all movies this way. The movie itself was very well done the puppets looked so real. We took our grandson and he loved it until the bird lost his arm he wanted to cry for him. But we all left feeling good about the movie and the theatre itself. Definately recommend all families to see it this way

Within the first five minutes of this movie, I began to cry. Not because it was sad, but because Spike Jonze managed to capture so perfectly what it is to be a child, and then to translate that to film for an adult audience. This os the most perfect film adaptation of all time, and so brilliantly done, especially when one considers the brevity of the source material.

I was REALLY excited about this movie - saw it in IMAX, bought the tickets early. I thought the graphics were amazing and the characters were definitely cool to see "alive" but the movie went a completely different direction than I expected. I don't think it is appropriate for real small children. There were a few seens that really turned my stomach because of how harsh some things were. I understand that a lot of this movie needed to be "wild" but a more heartfelt, light-hearted fun movie was what I wanted to see but didn't get. I just don't know that I got the childlike feeling from the movie that i got from the book. It definitely left me still wanting.

this movie was incredible. it was visually as true to a book as i've ever seen, and didn't pull any punches.
as a young adult, i connected with this film, and as a child i would have too. every family has it's share of dark times, and this movie shows it in such a beautiful and manageable way, and gives you the sense that it's ok.
i consider this to be a new classic, and i'll be buying it as soon as it hits the shelves.

This is a different movie and after it was over I really needed to think about whether I liked it. The book was "the" book in our house and I wondered how it would be treated. I enjoyed the outcome! The "wild things" were interestingly portrayed and the turns in the story were touching, sad, but hopeful. I would not recommend this movie for small children - it's far from action packed. It's a very thoughtful adaptation of a classic book . . . ..

IF NOT MISTAKEN IN THE BOOK IT ENDS AS IF MAX THINKS HE HAS HAD A DREAM
I read others reviewing this film who had kids that REALLY LIKED THIS FILM. I wonder if those reviewers felt ok with the harshness of the characters and the anger. I DIDN'T and I am 56!
Sorry, this was not the movie I know the book was.Save your money and rent a movie from 10 years ago for your "youngster to see." If YOUR child is in first grade, which the book was written for (age group), then THIS FILM IS NOT FOR THEM.

My friend and I (both in our 30s) both grew up on this book, identifying with little Max and also each with different "Wild Things". It's always nerve-wracking to see a movie version of a favorite book, fearing that it could ruin the way you've imagined the characters and action for all time. Not this movie. Bravo Spike Jonze. It was just as I would have imagined, and the puppetry was spectacular.
As one reviewer said earlier, there are some moments that could be scary for the younger kids, but if they've read the book, they'll see them coming. And regardless of whether it's before or after seeing the movie, all kids should read this book!
