This was a beautifully shot, acted, and effected movie. I was completely lost in the story, which doesn't happen much any more. Sure the 3-D didn't use many "crap flying at your head gimics," but I don't think it was supposed to. The 3-D added depth to the landscape, which is all Lewis Carroll would have wanted (or allowed if alive). Depp annoyed me at first because he's so well known it took me out of the story for a while, but by mid-movie I'd forgotten all about how hot the man is in real life. WTG Burton!

The story was pretty well done, but the movie was too dark and bland for me. The 3D was not overly effective given the darkness of the movie and there was just nothing that stood out except for Johnny Depp's character, which was good, but not deep enough. This is a movie I would see as a rental, but not as a full priced ticket.

It's a nice revisit for the adults in the family, probably not the best for little kids like most Tim Burton stuff. Overall we were entertained and the 3d is better than the other alternative. It's a good movie, just didn't have anything that made it great or outstanding from my perspective.

A rehash of Narnia, Lord of the Rings, The Golden Compass, Star Wars, and The Lion King, Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland is every hero cycle movie you've ever seen, dressed up in the costumes of Alice in Wonderland. It even includes a moral.
This is regrettable, because Lewis Carroll hated the preachy morality tales of the era. He openly mocked them in Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. So to rewrite Alice in Wonderland with such a shallow premise, two dimensional characters, and predictable plot is like watching Ivy League schoolchildren dress up in leather jackets and pretend to be "rebels." The irony would be laughable, if wasn't so sad.
All of this is a disservice to the amazing costumes, sets, special effects, and effective use of 3D. So if you enjoy the technical aspects of film making, you might enjoy this corruption of Alice in Wonderland. I'm sure Lewis Carroll wouldn't.

All four of us loved the movie. 2 out of 4 thought the 3D was as good or better than Avatar. As always, Johnny Depp was awesome as the Mad Hatter. The only complaint was that there was a lot of dialogue that we just couldn't understand. We would have loved to have hit tthe rewind button!

AWESOME - but must be seen in 3D. The entire film is shot in 3D and it's absolutely phenomenal. Get to the theater early so you avoid nosebleeds. It's still that popular :)

I guess maybe the 3D should have been left out. Not nearly as good as Avatars technology at all. The film itself was terrific and the scenery spectacular for sure. But with the 3D technology used it was often blurred too much. Now perhaps it was my theater's equipment and I'd like to think that is a very real possibility. I opted for my usual theater of choice where I saw Avatar with my kids and that was nothing short of spectacular so I expected the same level for Alice in Wonderland and was disappointed. My budding actor children totally agreed with me 100 %. That being said and my only complaint. Go see this film it is a excellent and will become part of our library of DVD's as soon as it is available.

I had high hopes for this movie, but was greatly disappointed. I personally love what is going on with 3D in a lot of new movies now; however, I do agree with other comments that the regular version is better. The 3D effect was rather pointless and frankly made me a bit dizzy. Being a huge fan of the "Alice" stories, I found this to be a bad remake of the original Disney animated movie. I was also anticipating a darker take on the story since Tim Burton was involved, but that is not the case. Through the middle of the movie I actually found it hard to stay awake. Caught myself dozing at least 5 times. The group of friends I saw the movie with were split 50/50 as far as loving it vs. thinking it was just an OK movie. On the other hand, 100% of us agreed the movie seemed to be "lacking something". In my opinion I would wait for this to come out on DVD. Definitely don't waste your money by paying extra for the 3D version.

Excellent film. Tim Burton did a wonderful job directing this film. The screenplay was a wonderful retelling of the original story. Interesting background information on Alice's family and society life during the period. Would definately see again, and WILL purchase when it comes out on DVD.

The movie has some really fun scenery and effects, but is much more Disney than a typical Tim Burton movie. I expected the movie to run closer to the deep political currents and dark realities as written by Lewis Carroll; instead I watched a whimsical movie no doubt filmed so that Disney can make a new ride based upon it. That being said, kids may still find some scenes confusing and disturbing so it may be best to only go with older kids.

We went mainly to see Johnny Depp who is superb at any of his roles and this was equally great. Helena B. Carter also was good; Ann Hathaway so-so. The "Alice" character was a bit insipid and the plot was such a typical Hollywood take on a great Lewis Carroll classic that it was disappointing. The special effects are beginning to look like Disney is putting all animated characters in a similar jungle-ly setting with exotic plants. A disappointment.

I went in hoping, as I do with every movie I see, that I would like this film... but as usual, Burton's direction leaves me deflated. His pacing is continually monotone and even though there might be action sequences, it all seems to go at the same speed to me.
He uses the same actors in every film and the same score composer and that doesn't help matters but in this case, Helena Bonham Carter's performance does stand out in a field of blandness. Depp tries but fails as the Hatter who in this film, doesn't exactly seem all that Mad. Crispin Glover is usually so perfectly bizarre but Burton's direction leaves him as flat as the not so well done 3D. The 3D was OK, but after seeing Avatar, whether you liked the film and message itself, the Visual effects blow away Alice and so do the 3D effects. I even found the animated animals poorly executed at times.
Alice's message at the end is noble, if not contrived, but it can't save yet another film that Burton either completely ruins... or misses in a big way. The list is getting pretty long of films that fail to capture anything beyond Burton's bizarre "world" that was fresh and fun and exciting early on with "Beetljuice" but has become expected and stale with almost everything that followed. I hope his next film is not a remake or retelling but something new and maybe he'll pick a well written script/story too like "Big"Fish," which I feel is an exception to all his recent films and stands out as original, quirky and fun.

It was about what I thought it would be, but not exactly what I thought it would be. It was a little darker than I had expected, and I thought it got a little too much hype for its actual acting. It was good, not great!

Great verison of the old Alice in Wonderland. Great special effects and the characters were fun and silly at times while the red queen was evil. Although there was violence it was minor compared to today's movie standards. My grandchildren loved it. It is the story of Alice in Wonderland but this version Alice comes back to Wonderland as an 18 year old. I loved Johnny Depp, what a character.Johnny Depp does steal the show along with the dog and the red queen. I can't wait to purchase the DVD.

I really liked the setting of this movie. Instead of just another repeat of Alice in Wonderland, it took us on an old adventure in a new way. The Red Queen was perfect!

This movie was really awesome regarding special effects, but it was too violent for a PG rating. Beheadings, animal torture, and the like should be reserved for PG 13 or just not a part of it. The movie needs an element of fear and suspense, but some of this was too graphic for children even with guidance.

It was weird that they strayed so far from the original story. It was also slow in parts. It was also very dark lightingwise. Overall it was ok movie brought together well in the end. But it wasn't what I thought it would be. It's too bad because it's such a fantastic story and they could have done so much more with it.
