Given the promise of this project, the results are a bit disappointing. I'm no Carroll purist, so the idea of Tim Burton re-imagining Wonderland with Johnny Depp was appealing. But everything is a bit too Grimm for my tastes, and like the worst of Burton's films, the story suffers at the hands of his considerable visual invention. Looks great, but not very filling. A downer, in fact.

JD & Mia.W did the there parts well! As for the rest of the screen play it seemed lacking. Some parts felt rushed or to short no time for visual impact? Only toward the end of the story was screen time giving to the action. As for the 3D I was disappointed, the coloring contrast & lighting could have been better? Have not viewed in IMAX maybe better? Disney pictures should do better !

First, the movie. It captured the period in England well, and Wonderland was absolutely as nonsensical as one would hope for, without being slapstick. The Hatter's tea party did look convincingly mad.
At the allegorical level, this is a beautiful story, with Lewis Carroll writing advice to his own children and to everyone else, to follow their dreams, not be afraid of their demons, and to take their future into their own hands. It also tells how love overcomes fear, how in order to go from one opportunity to the next (the door), one has to change themselves, grow smaller, or grow larger to fit the challenge.
The casting was excellent, as were the direction and special effects. I'd recommend parents who don't know the deeper undercurrents of this tale educate themselves before they take their young ones to derive maximum benefit for the kiddies.

Besides the visual effects, which were great, the story of Alice as a young woman who is being pressured into a life she doesn't want and using Wonderland to symbolically defeat her oppressors was a creative and entertaining way of presenting the story. It's a little predictable and less whimsical then I remember the story being but it was pretty good by today's standards.

Went to the 9:15pm show at the AMC Norwalk 20 with my daughter and wife. Tim Burton's take on Alice In Wonderland, while very different than Lewis Carroll's book, was enjoyable throughout. The 3D was well done, and Depp played a delightfully unhinged Mad Hatter. While the movie was great, the enjoyment was greatly hindered by the 80 degree theater. I asked the manager early in the movie to adjust the A/C and by the end of the movie, it was miserably warm. 15 minutes from the end, my wife went out and asked again. They said "Give us another 10 minutes.". If you want to see this great movie, I suggest seeing it (or any movie you want to enjoy fully) somewhere other than AMC 20 Norwalk.

The acting and story line are ok. Not great but ok. The 3D is bad. The close up head shots are flat, cardboard like. The director took a 2D movie and tried to get in on the current 3D interest by doing a computer conversion to 3D. It doesn't work well.

When you go to see Alice don't expect the classic story, but it is true to the spirit of book. The characters where great. Depp as the Mad Hatter was perfect. He nailed it. I was a bit dissapointed with the 3D. It was not a good as "Avitar". Also, the Chesire Cat did not change colors like he was supossed to. Overall it was a great movie and will sure to be a Tim Burton classic.

My husband and I are Tim Burton fans. The movie was visually beautiful without being too Tim Burton-esque. The plot however would have been better suited for adolescents. It wasn't bad, just a litte young for us. I would not take a young child to this movie, however. It could definitely cause nighmares.

Went to see this movie this past weekend with my family. It was wonderful. Exactly the type of film expected from Tim Burton. Johnny Depp was great as the Mad Hatter, and the filmography was very realistic. The rabbit looked real. The Queen of Heart appeared realistic. Kept reminding myself it was CGI, but you could really get lost in the fantasy. It was a very interesting twist on a classic fairy tell. I highly recommend this movie.

My wife and I enjoyed this movie. The effects were good as was the storyline.
I thought it strange how many parents were bringing their young children to this movie. Sure it was rated PG but it is a Tim Burton film and it probably went over the heads of a lot of the kids there. This certainly wasn't your parents Alice in Wonderland.

Director Tim Burton doesn't disappoint in his 3D visualization of the Alice tale, but he was apparently hog-tied by his corporate task-masters, who forced a "Golden Compass/Narnia/Harry Potter" teen adventure story into the mix -- ultimately spoiling the Wonder. Even the closing title song was some corporate crap, like something you'd hear on American Idol.
This was the last weekend it was supposedly showing in 3D - I guess so they can clear the projector for "Clash of the Titans." I'm going back to 2D and good cinema myself. I don't need to pay $12 for this!

Awe, I was so dissapointed when I saw this movie. I was expecting such a great movie but my husband and two firends did not even understand the point of the story, we did not understand the weird words they were saying through out the movie and I hated looking at all the disturbing looks of the characters. They were so ugly to see over and over again. I am so sad Disney has not put more effort in to this movie. Johnny Dep is a big weirdo, made the movie annoying. A fantastic movie. Saw it for the 2nd time last night and enjoyed it as much or more than the 1st time. Visually beautiful, this movie did not need 3D. A great story about a young woman learning to believe in herself and decide to follow her own path. The costumes were wonderful, in both worlds. Same costumer as Sweeney Todd. Another winning collaboration between Tim Burton and Johnny Depp.

A contrived story with a closer relation to the Wizard of Oz than with the original Alice stories. When the "bad witch" is eventually defeated and her minions turn against her, you practically expect the White Queen to tell Alice to click her heels together to return home. Meanwhile, the Mad Hatter plays the Scare Crow: "But you'll miss me the most, right?"
Repeatedly and randomly asking "why a raven is like a writing desk" does not make it authentic, and having the Hatter and the Tweedles inexpicably become swordsmen in the big battle is absurd.

This Alice is absolutely a Tim Burton film....or should I say ‘little Timmy Burton?’ Yes, it has all the Tim Burton darkness we’ve grown to love, but more then any other of his movies….I can actually imagine little Timmy sitting through the original Disney movie. Tim’s Alice is lovingly peppered with favorite images we all recognize from the oh-so-many-years-ago animated icon, when a dark movie theater and a box of popcorn was a rare and special reward.
3D Alice is more in keeping with the "flavor" of the original books. The animated characters were great and I truly loved the red queen’s castle-card-guards. If any single part of this movie illustrates the fact that Alice isn't in Disneyland anymore, it's Depp's recitation of ‘The Jabberwocky.’ Let's hope the man never finds a good therapist.
My only complaint? Tim’s a little too dark for 3D. He and his team need to remember the effect of 3D glasses on an already dark-dramatic visual experience. I actually occasionally pulled my glasses off, I wanted to see the cinematography. In my opinion, the 3D effect actually flattened the visual experience, dampening the light and color tremendously. I suggest to skip the 3D and love the regular version. That’s what did when I went back!

My 11 year old and I both enjoyed the movie alot. I would have preferred that the parents of the smaller children who didn't like the movie had left them at home.

We loved Alice, unique approach that was true to the original story, 'Through the Looking Glass'. Amazing set design that was complimentary to Tim Burton's vision. The clothes and makeup were fantastic. A must see!

Our little group of four adults all really enjoyed the movie. While we all liked the 3D format, we all pretty much agreed that it was a little gimmicky at times and that the movie would have been just as good in a laser-sharp high definition version.

Lewis Carroll's original 19th century satirical brilliance was altered to a Disney revisionist history 21st century English language action film fantasy. Brilliant costuming! 3-D was fun. Animation and Depp terrific. Mature Alice's sweet face was somewhat believable until she became a wonderful feminist warrior too kind to slay the dragon. Child Alice had a better visage. I'd like to see a film that re-created the 19th C version to show us about English history and more faithfulness to the original story. Where were the cards? Humpty Dumpty? It's a fantasy tool, not a teaching tool and today's Anglo youth and adult speakers need more history than histrionics. Fab blue butterfly at the end. Do catch it!
