Fortunately for me, I read Carroll's book as a teen and didn't see Disney's ridiculous cartoon version until my forties. Burton et. al. have truly recreated Lewis Carroll's Wonderland. I was spellbound.

I loved that they brought all the main players back from the original movie, but the story just wasn't where it needed to be for a film with this much hype. The movie got perilously close to insinuating something romantic between Alice and the Mad Hatter, and I think that would have been a huge mistake. The best part was Johnny's dancing scene.

I loved the Movie. Johnny Depp was perfect as usual and the set and costume design was magnificent. I did feel that the movie rushed a bit. I get that it's supposed to be that way. Very slow starting off and unfortunately, never picked up. Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter was, well, Johnny Depp as any other character. Very little differences in his acting, just different costumes. The 3D effects were fun and the special effects were ok, but not spectacular. With all the build up and hype, I so expected more and was disappointed. I took my 15 year old, who spent most of the move asleep! I was not impressed!

The Rabbit has lead Alice to Wonderland in hopes of replacing the Red Queen with the White, and slaying the JABBERWOCKY, the Red Queen's beast. Mia Wasikowska was a beautiful Alice: eccentric, brave and coming of age as well as a hero. I also loved Depp; he made the Hatter a complex man who is fighting for freedom. Bonham Carter shined as the Red Queen: hilarious, villianous, but not scary so she's a great bad guy for kids. I loved it, whimsy, modern and inspiring!

Not sure why it got poor reviews on Rotten Tomatoes but the movie def. deserved better ratings. Took my daughter and her friend (both 6yrs old) and they loved it. I wasn't crazy about the 3D effects, might have considered watching it in standard def. But then again, after watching Avatar in Imax 3D, I may be spoiled. The cast did an excellent job and the special effects were excellent. Looking forward to watching it again on Blu-Ray. Highly recommend going to see it.

Fabulous film. Depp is outstanding. Hathaway floated around like on a cloud. Carter, Wasikowska, and Glover are great.-even Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. The costumes and the make-up are uncomparable. The surround sound and the 3D put you in the moment. The scenery was amazing. It was wonderful seeing the characters come to life. How could the movie not be a success with Johnny Depp? What a man! SF was great, that's why it got 2 stars. The characters act as if the script is forced on them. The plot was obviously STOLEN from American McGree's Alice. It's like the movie was directed in the same vein as twilight or some of the other terrible teen movies out there. This is not a movie for very young children because they won't understand it. I loved it because it was a treat for my eyes. The Queen of Hearts was my favorite character. I loved how they made Alice a very modern lady at the end.

Alice in Wonderland was another perfect example of why Tim Burton is adored by the masses. His take on this classic was new, fresh and simply amazing. The sets and costumes were like nothing seen before and the acting was superb. As the Mad Hatter we got to see glimpses of Johnny Depp's other beloved characters but he seemed to master what being the Mad Hatter was all about. Crispin Glover was fantastically evil as always as was Helena Bonham Carter.
My only complaint about this movie was there was truly no need for it to be in 3D. The story and characters would have easily stood on their own without the extra effects. I highly recommend this movie.

The 3D was not impressive. In fact it was distracting. I gather Burton shot in 2D and then converted to 3d using some computer techniques. It showed. If you saw Avatar you will be disappointed. That said the story was fine and Alice and the Mad Hatter characters are well drawn.

I was greatly disappointed. It was just drone with little energy, ending was anti-climatic. I wouldn't say it was a kids movie- maybe 8 and up. My 2 teens were bored, tho the 2 8yr olds loved it. The costumes, make up and special effects were awesome! The white queen was corny and distracting. Depp was awesome but didn't have WOW power in the character.

It is better than most of the previously made movies on this book. But it is still not as good as our imagination while reading the book. The 3D effects are much less effective as the ones in Avatar. In general, 3D movies at th present stage of technical development are not very satisfactory. The lighting is demmer and the images are smaller through the special glasses. This is the best Tim Burton movie I've seen. The overall feel is dark, which adds an element of 'reality' to the story. It is not cartoonish, only 'whimsical.' Acting is excellent. Direction is super. The story is compelling and runs tight. So much so that, in the end, I wanted to see more of this fanciful Wonderland Tim Burton recreated for us in his visionary rendition of the classic.
As to 3D projection. I'm one of those who think 24 frames per second and stereoscopic 3D are not a good mix. I would have probably enjoyed this film a lot more in Digital 2D. I guess that means I'll be seeing it again.

Alice in Wonderland in 3D was an OK movie at best. I was excited to see it which may have been my downfall. The movie just had no plot change from 15 minutes in all the way to the end. I enjoyed the 3D though that Tim Burton and Disney did some interesting new stuff with the 3D. The imagery was excellent, but the script and plot was lacking.
Alice in Wonderland is worth watching, but don't go in expecting Tim Burton to have put together as good of a movie as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Johnny Depp is a favorite, so we were positively biased from the start. Burton is his usual quirky self. Helena Bonham Carter is great, so is the look of the movie. Other reviews will give you the downsides, but overall we really enjoyed it, especially in 3D. But if you are looking for Wall-E, or Shrek for the kids, pass on this one.

Awesome movie especially in 3d but the story couldve been better. As another reviewer said it quickly became very predictable but it was still worth seeing.

My husband, daughter and I all give this movie "thumbs up". Interesting characters with some hilarious lines, beautiful scenery, struggle between good vs. evil, "modern" Alice and happy ending with great Avril Lavigne song - what more could you want? Well maybe Mad Hatter's dialogue could've been enunciated a little more clearly so we could understand what he was saying more of the time, but we got the gist of it. Might be scary for little kids, but no worse than battles at end of Aladdin, Lion King, etc... Take your family and enjoy it!
