Alice is an amazing blend of live actors with 3D computer animated special effects. With the pale makeup worn by all the actors it is hard to tell who/what is real and what is animated. The Queen of hearts in particular. Sill don't know if that was Helena Bonham Carter's head attached to a tiny animated body or if the wholeQueen was drawn. But aside from that, the plot and tone are a little dark and violent for a kids movie, but not really interesting enough for a teen/adult movie.

I enjoyed the movie, its special effects and watching it in 3D. I feel it did not stay faithful to the genre of thought that the original Alice in Wonderland conveyed. I still enjoyed it, however.

Very interesting movie and very well done but for sure not for young children. Certainly validates the theory that many of the early works chosen by "Walt" were in reality very scary for children, i.e., Alice, Peter Pan, etc.

I saw this movie with my 5yo daughter, 10yo old son, and 50yo father. Everyone enjoyed it alot. My only complaint is that some characters (especially the Mad Hatter) were VERY hard to understand - the dialogue was somewhat rushed, slurredd, and/or unclear. The graphics and 3D were great, and the characters were fascinating.

I wouldn't call this a kids movie - not exactly a cartoon. However it did follow the Alice in Wonderland story, although it's a "return" to wonderland and Alice is 20 not 8. The Queen of Hearts was very entertaining with her continual mantra of "off with their heads". The best part is that the moral of the story is not that "they lived happily ever after" but that Alice can have a career and a life without being married. I love the 3-D movies!!!!! Worth paying the extra admission!

An absolutely stunning visual apocolypse of imagination and creativity. Alice's "return" to wonderland wasa little confusing but rather entertaining. I felt like the story got hurried "pushed for time", if they allowed another half hour of film i can only imagine what could have happened. Very, Very good. Take your kids, then take your parents. I took my boss at 63 years old she loved it!!

A feast for the senses and the soul. Tim Burton and his wonderful cast and crew "get" Lewis Carroll and invite us on the next ride into Wonderland. Do yourself a favor, though, If you haven't read Carroll's books recently, give them at least a quick glance so that you can pick up on the references -- yes, the Mad Hatter does take some liberties with the Jabberwocky poem but I guess that's what happens with an oral history.
I would not recommed this for very young children; although visually stunning, the film did prompt a three-year-old behind me to keep asking about every little thing that happened, and that's because you are expected to know the underlying story already. But do the kids a favor, if they can't read yet, you read the stories to them-- most of the movies out there give a bowlderized, saccharin, dumbed-down version and the kids deserve the full ride.
Enjoy the muchness!

Unless you're into cheap carnival effects, see this movie in less than 3D. That's my recomendation. The rest of the movie's qualities justify buying the ticket. I can't speak for everyone of course but I for one just don't see objects the way this 3D stuff is determined to show them to me. I find it very annoying, like a blinking arrow telling me that one object is closer than another. I know this already and I don't need this weird effect to shout at me about it. I was eventually able to ignnore the 3D effects, which was a good thing. Otherwise I could have hated this movie.

the 3d is distracting and the story is pretty bland. Its hard to appreciate any of the characters when there is so much going on with backgrounds and 3d forgrounds. The cameras focus forces you to look at things that you dont necessarily want to be looking at, and with all the visuals going on its hard to follow the dialogue, though your not missing much.

I took my grandaughter to see this movie in Digital 3D (not IMAX) and was really impressed by the story, the special effects, the costumes and the sets. The 3D added to the experience but I think that I would enjoy it just as much in 2D.
I thought the screen was too dark, with or without the glasses on, but this may have been the fault of the projectors in the particular theater I was in. I saw Avatar in 3D IMAX at the same theater and the images were much brighter and crisper.
Aside from that one issue, an excellent experience overall.

I do not think that the 3-D made the movie much better; yes, a butterfly flew into the audience, but I do not remember tht other special effects. If I took off the 3-D glasses, the images were distorted. the glasses were tight to wear.
I liked the story (Alice in Wonderland was my favorite book as a child) - so it was nice to return to Wonderland. When I watch it again, it will be in 2D.

I love this movie! Wonderland is definately a mad place! Tim Burton never disspoints me. I love all his movies! He adds his own twist and just the right darkness to it! I will be purchasing the movie for sure and will watch it again and again for years to come! You have to like Tim Burton and appreciate his "touch" to really enjoy this movie. I look forward to seeing more Tim Burton movies! This version of Alice in Wonderland is one of my favorites besides the Alice in Wonderland original cartoon by Disney!

I know this was about Alice returning to Wonderland, but there were stories to some of the characters that I felt should have been explored more. The 2D seemed better and I could appreciate the actual style and graphics more than the IMAX. It was lovely, and the characters played well, but I was hoping for more depth to the characters. Johnny Depp was a star in this, and I wanted to learn more about the Hatter as having someone like Depp in a movie like this seems to deserve/demand more about his character. Overall I would recommend seeing it, but I would probably not buy this. The only reason I say that is because it does not give as much detail as I would like to see.

We went because we know that Johnny Depp can be magical in his personal transformation to "be" a character; we were not disappointed. He lit up the screen when he was present. but Mia Wasikowska was miscast and brought the whole enterprise down. She had no warmth and no presence; it seemed that she was reading the part rather than owning it. She was NOT Alice. Anne Hathaway got had by the gestures and manners she was asked to deliver by Burton. As a result, hers was one of the weakest performances in the film. Many of the special effects seem lifted from the cutting room floor of other movies; they weren't that original. Alice riding the Jabberwock reminded us of "The Golden Compass." Not enough of Carroll's humor was delivered and the film, overall, had a dark quality that made it less fun than it should have been.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Entertaining, and holds itself together. Don't expect Disney's classic (although Burton genuflects at the Disney shrine during the last 1/3 of the movie) , and don't expect the sharp satire of Lewis Carroll. Unlike many other Tim Burton movies, it accomplishes what it wants to do. Slightly overboard on the scene-setting with too many dark thorny leaf-bare forests, the ending was a bit treacly, and the Red Queen's castle looks like Disney World. Excellent effects.

... the dragon seems more like from a serious fantasy story, don't really matches Lewis Carrol's dream story.
Also, I hate DOF in 3D movies: your eye should pick by itself the object to focus on. When it tries to focus on a artificially blurred thing, it goes crazy.
But other than that - great movie, very detailed 3D and perfect real-world and 3D models composition.

The effects were good, the 3D was so-so, and the acting was average. I should have waited for the DVD. Really not worth the jacked-up, 3D admission price. I liked the original, fully animated version better! Sometimes it's better to leave well enough alone, rather than trying to cash in on a popular actor's name.

Had such high hopes for the film with Tim Burton at the helm. While visually on the money the script was weak and lacked humor wasting the amazing talent available. No one can scream "off with his head" better than Helen Bohnam Carter, but it's seems like that's ALL she had to say. I'll be there for you next time Tim, but please make sure the script is tight and matches your genius and if not, off with those meddling studio executive heads!

It is brilliant and (literally) fantastic. My friend and I saw it last night FOR THE SECOND TIME IN TWO WEEKS! It may well be the most enjoyable movie I’ve ever seen. It is so true to the clever Carroll story and so fabulously interpreted. My favorite was the Cheshire Cat and I can’t now see the new moon without waiting for him to appear in the sky. Wonderful make up and acting – especially Alice, the Mad Hatter and the Red Queen. Great use of 3D and the scenery and animals and flowers were utterly beautiful. Even the end credits were mind blowing in showing how much went into making this. We felt wonderful afterwards – both times. Don’t miss it – in 3D if possible.
