If you love Johnny Depp and Tim Burton, and have never read the book, I'm sure you will love the movie. But if you loved the book in your childhood as I did, you might be as offended by this movie as I was. Tim Burton has imposed his vision over the book, and created a whole different story, basically destroying the orginal. He made an innocent chidhood dream into a war story, added a plot, and turned the book into something it is not. The feminist twist is nice, but rings hollow, as he is destroying Alice's story while supposedly empowering her. And it is actually the SWORD (read phallic symbol) that does the work; she can only be powerful if she acts like a man.

Alice was my favorite book as a child and I worried what might become of it in Tim Burton's hands; in fact, marvelous things. I think it was a good idea to make Alice older and make the story a revisiting. Loved the caterpillar and the Cheshire cat; not so crazy about the newly imagined white queen.

It was entertaining; fabulous animation/real people action. It had a few dragging moments. The chase scenes were too long and the chessboard scene too short! Really liked that there was a "moral to the story".

I took my 8 year old daughter last Sunday - we both LOVED it! We saw it in 3D which made it amazing. I've always been a fan of Tim Burton's work...and a HUGE fan of Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. It is a great story - I especially like how Alice regains her "muchness"! The night we saw the movie my daughter told me she will never lose her muchness!! So awesome! I told her we'll see it again in 3D and will buy it when it's released in BluRay.

Since the title wasn't Alice in the looking glass I wasn't expecting the storey line to be the classic version. Knowing that it would need to appeal & be relatable for a younger generation then lets say anyone under 45,I felt it was well done. Loved the blending to transition some one to the present version ,& loved the strong charectors. All roles were executed well!!! Great effects & costumes. Go see it!!!!! I'm a huge fan of Johnny Depp & Tim Burton but I was completely disappointed in this film.
The images and world of "Wonderfland" were stunning. The 3D was not. Everything that attempted to come out of the screen turned into a blurry mess. The story seemed flat and a little hard to get into (even though I've read the books a dozen times).
However, IMAX might have been better then the Real 3D in a medium sized theater in Redondo Beach... just saying.

Viewed this movie with fellow senior citizens early on opening morning in Northern AZ. One would suppose with the 3-D, CG Science, being what it is, that Lewis Carrol's timeless classic would take you down the rabbit hole with Alice....but alas, this viewer never lost the feeling that he was at the movies trying to awaken his inner child. Heard little laughter. A few worked-up applause...but even Depp's great personae couldn't lift this thing beyond two stars. I shouldn't have re-read the book before watching. For this Reader/Viewer, the magical trip with Alice came in the single dimension of Carol's magical pen.

As always, Johnny Depp rocked his part. What there was of it. The visuals and imagery were amazing, too bad the story line was a mish mosh stiched together to "make it more interesting", perhaps? I would have been happier with a "straight-line" Alice. What was up with the little dance at the end? Weird. My favorite part, however, was when JD recited The Jabberwocky. Awesome. Gave me chills. Helena B Carter was outstanding as the Red Queen and I wanted MORE of the caterpillar! Crispin Glover surprised me as well, he's surprisingly hot in this movie! LOL. So, my final thoughts: Good job for the actors. Not so much for the writers.

If you go see the movie thinking you'll see a more colorful original - you'll be mistaken. This is Tim Burton's adaptation and its fun. After reading some negative reviews, I was not sure what to expect from this movie - but I thought it was great. It exceeded my expectations. I am really glad that I saw it in the theater, because I am not sure that the impact will translate as well on a much smaller screen. Almost all of the 3D effect was done well and did not seem odd or gimmicky after a few minutes into the film.

The pacing left little opportunity to develop characters, but I was not disappointed by Tim Burton's Rendition of Alice in Wonderland. The plot is set up nicely so that it is fresh while still providing a level of nostalgia that connects it with the original story. I'm always skeptical of the Burton/Depp pairing, because it can be oscar-worthy exeptionally well - Sweeney Todd or garbage - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Dahl would have been hard pressed to appreciate that one). This was a good one.

The effects were awesome, but that was it. The story was stupid and the lead actress was bland. Johnny D was weird as usual but forgettable. Save your money and rent it when it comes out on DVD...you'll thank me later.

I will start by saying that I am a HUGE Tim Burton / Johnny Depp / and Bonham Carter fan, so this is right up my alley. I loved that it was Alice's return to wonderland and loved all of the special effects, I went with a good friend of mine, and will be taking my children to see it next week. Although I do think a couple spots may be a little scary for the kids, mine are 2 and 4 years old, I tink overall they will fall in love with it. They love Tim Burton's Willy Wonka and Nightmare Before Christmas.

I took my family to this movie because it was my daughters 13th birthday, and she wanted to see it with a number of her friends. The only thing I liked about AIW was the 3D effects. They were great. That was it. It was very hard to follow, little or no heart in it, and the male lead, I forget his name, is a nutcase. Bottom line....awful. If there is any type of sequel, I will probably picket it.
