the 3d was no as mature as the 3d in Avatar. The sound mixing in this film is also very poorly done. Most of the people in the theater with me couldn't understand that majority of the script - it was as if the actors were mumbling while the music intended for the background was blaring.
this film is, I felt, also somewhat uninspired. tim burton has a singular vision for film which he unfortunately feels he needs to repeat with every film he's involved with. It would have been nice to see a lot more imagination and thought applied to the sets.
As for the acting... well, no one overacted however there are no award winning performances

Like most Burton films, it was highly visual, but with little emphasis on plot, pacing, & character development.
Most characters were a bit bland, with Alice (Mia Wasikowska) & White Queen (Anne Hathaway) being annoying. In their defenses, they clearly were acting as directed (e.g., Alice being kind of whiny & the White Queen prancing about like a ballerina on ecstasy). But the movie was saved by Queen of Hearts (Helena Bonham Carter), Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp), & most of the animated characters.
Bottom line: It’s a pretty fantasy movie, but is slow-paced in parts & not very cohesive. Also, try to focus on the good characters, who might compensate for the really bad acting from other characters.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The special effects in 3D made this a wonderful Disney experience and I have recommended it to friends. Johnny Depp was especially odd - hence his role as the mad hatter. It's a story that most of us know brought to us live (almost) in living color (for those of use old enough to remember that reference). This is not your Mom's 3D~

Lewis Carrol created quite an interesting world, and fascinating characters that could inspire many stories. I have a feeling that this won't be the best modern offspring from the classic tale. That being said, Johnny is wonderfully charming as The Mad Hatter and Anne Hathaway is a hoot as the White Queen. Helen Carter may have been born to shout "Off with their Head!". If I was Alice I would have wanted to stay with Cheshy and the Mad Hatter, if it weren't for the annoying rabbits....I feel they could have made the white rabbit and the March Hare a bit more likeable. See it in 3D, this type of psychedelic landscape was made to be seen in full detail.

I thought the movie was very entertaining. I loved the 3-D aspects of the show! It was very beautiful and vibrant! I felt they did a great job of combining the original "Looking Glass" and the classic "Alice in Wonderland", although I think the plot was better suited for pre-teens - adults.
Johnny Depp was amazing, and as always made me forget he was playing the character, but rather that he WAS the character!

The movie entertaining (my 11 and 14 yr old loved it) and visually amazing, but the story fell a little flat and I found some of the dialogue hard to understand. The queens (Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway) steal the show. It was a great escape for a Sunday afternoon, but not a movie I'd go see again.

I really enjoyed this movie. I think that if someone goes expecting the traditional Disney version of Alice in Wonderland, though, they will be disappointed. This was more of an adaptation of Through the Looking Glass, when Alice returns to Wonderland to fight the Jaberwocky, and it was visually and mentally stimulating. Worth every penny.

Really enjoyed the movie. Don't agree with general critical opinion that it's all visuals with minimal story. I thought story was strong and clear. One of the more lucid Burton movie's I thought. Enjoyed all the actors except Ann Hathaway's character was weird ( not in a good way). Johnny Depp didn't do anything new , but I enjoyed him. Overall I was very pleasantly surprised ( not a huge Burton fan and wasn't eager to go). Kids (12+10 girls) loved it.

Although the imagery was breathtaking, the story and plot lacked much intrigue. British English was not necessary to be used as the main dialect. Hard to understand, fathom, and perceive. I love Tim Burton in everything that he creates, but this movie was a big disappointment.

A very interesting visual tale in 3-D which merged both of Lewis Carroll's classic stories. The 3-D effects enhance this story. Casting was very good all around. Crispin Glover can still be a creepy villain, Chirstopher Lee voiced a villainous Jabberwocky, Helen Bonham Carter superb as the power mad Red Queen, Anne Hathaway was fine as the principled White Queen, Johnny Deep was magnificent as the Mad Hatter and Mia Wasikowska portrayed Alice's transformation from odd lady to a heroic and empowered figure. Tim Burton and crew's talents made this adaptation worth watching on many levels from the visual to a deeper meaning.

I went into this with big hopes. So, I don't know if my hopes were too big or if the movie really lacked that special something. I would have liked it more had it followed the original Alice in Wonderland. This should have been named Alice Returns. The use of imagery and color was beautiful, but with the talents of Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter who I am both HUGE fans of, it just didn't follow through on what it could have been. Like others have said, I should have waited for it on Netflix. But you know everyone is going to see this, so you might as well follow the crowd (yes mom if everyone was going to jump off a bridge, I probably would too).

A typical Tim Burton movie so if you do not like his movies don't go!. If you like his work GO! The scenery was fabulous and the cinematography fabulous. The adaptation of the story was good and the characters fabulous! The abstractness of the story line was WILD. Johnny Depp out did himself in this movie. He was the best as usual. The Cheshire cat floating in and out of view was wonderful and my favorite part. The Good vrs Evil was a great approach and was done quite well. The Queen of Hearts played her role terrifically as did the White Queen. I could have done without the "pecking out of eyeballs", but all in all a good movie. Definately NOT a movie for young children to see even though it has a fairy tale name.

I should have waited til it came out on DVD. Worth $5, not $13 for 3D. They tried to make it linear and make sense, but Alice in Wonderland shouldn't make sense. I also was disappointed not to see the Walrus and the Carpenter at all. Perhaps sticking to the original story could have helped? Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter seemed a bit too similar to Willie Wonka.

Yet again Tim Burton remakes or re-images something I loved as a child and takes a big pile of steamy crap on it.
Note to Johnny Depp; "Get as far away from Tim as you can before he ruins your carreer.
Even the 3-D was nothing to worth while.
If you like classic Alice stories, for example the animated Alice in Wonderland by Disney, you probably won't like this movie.

I was really looking forward to this movie, especially in Digital 3D. While the 3D was great and the story was filmed in a way that didn't go out of its way to take advantage of 3D (no swords coming at you or people trying to poke you), the movie itself was not all that.
The acting was less than inspired, the special effects were a little clunky at times (the galloping horse was really obvious it was not real) and the actual story really didn't go anywhere.
I was disappointed in the story primarily because there was no real reason for the drama leading up to the end. I normally would say wait for Netflix, but the 3D makes it marginally worth seeing if there are no other 3D movies to see.

The collaboration between Burton and Disney was C+ at best. They are both completely different: Disney has always been happy fun-loving family type movies, whereas Burton has always been more on the dark side, so I can see why Burton had to make his vision more Disney-friendly. If you go into the movie thinking that it's going to be more Disney with a splash of Burton then you'll enjoy the movie. The plot was very linear, I imagine to keep the kids interested, but it was beautifully done. Depp and all the other characters played fantastic roles. It was a good time, but don't expect too much. The hype was definitely not worth it, but it was still passable. Oh, and the glasses were definitely ill-fitting. Good movie though!
