This movie has a great performance by Jeff Bridges, but I can't help think about how much better The Wrestler was as a complete movie. Both involve formerly famous men physically and emotionally falling apart as they get older. That said, I would recommend it to anyone who tends to like Oscar Bait type dramas with great acting by memorable male characters (e.g. Milk, Capote, Ray, A Beautiful Mind, etc). As long as you don't mind the awful title...

as a fan of American troubadours (ie singer-songwriters), i LOVED this movie. Jeff Bridges is PERFECT as are many of the situations he finds himself in.
Robert Duvall is superb as well (goes a bit without saying) and the music is excellent.
if you dream of having taken the road with Townes or Willie or Nanci Griffith this movie is a must see.
if you just like a good story of human fumbling and matters of the heart, then you will like it too.

I would highly recommend this movie if you enjoy stellar acting and fine performaces. Not a movie for you crash-bang action fans. Jeff Bridges was amazing and surely up for a well-deserved oscar for his absolute embodiment of this character. His singing and playing were first rate.

I really like Jeff Bridges. His interpretation of Bad was good. His voice was excellent. He reminded both my husband and I of Kris Kristopherson who we both like a lot. I am sure Jeff had him in mind when he was acting. The plot did not sustain my interest. The part that should have had more detail was the bar scene. He should have had more drinks there so that when he turns around and finds.....I don't want to give away that part. The rest could have been cut down more.

I really enjoyed the dysfunction of Bad's life. Why Maggie G fell in love with him while he blew second hand smoke in her face and belched whiskey and take out, is beyond me. She did a fine job being a doormat but I personally can't get past her nose and teeth. Loved Robert Duvall as a solid truth-telling friend. Wanted to go out and buy the music. BUT WHY the stylist didn't shave the back of Colin F's nappy neck-yeesh. DIDN'T like him at all. I would definitely recommend the movie. It'll make you realize how mentally healthy you really are.

The movie was good, but I thought it was a little drawn out in places. Should have been a 90 minute movie vice 1 hr. 51 min. Would definitely recommend it to friends; however recommend they wait for the DVD or for it to be available on On Demand or something similar.

I rate this film a 3 out of a 5 stars. It is too long, too repetitive, and I kept looking at my watch wondering how much longer will it last. Jeff Bridges does a fine job reprising his role in the GREAT LABOWSKI as a boozer. This time in Arizona. He is good at it and I admired the performance. His singing was pretty good, as was Colin Ferrell's. Robert Duvall seemed to walk through the scenes. This film lived up to my fear that it was over hyped. Good not great.

I really enjoyed this movie. I felt the plot was not predictable like some had said. I did not know how the movie was going to turn out. There were laugh out loud moments and even a moment in the movie where you wanted to applaud. This is what good movie is made of. Jeff Bridges made his character believable and carried this movie with some incredible music, I might add. I love Texas country music and this soundtrack is just great. It comes out on the 19th and I believe I will preorder it. The lady friend I took also loved it. I have never sat in a movie where the audience stayed in their seats for the credits before. I think the credits were half over before anyone even moved. Is this a sign of a good movie?

I agree that the plot was weak - predictable, and it was about a drunk, rather than a country singer. Bridges did a great job - if this wasn't Kris Kristofferson - I'm surprised. Music was good. I was entertained. But no Academy Awards for this one.

Same idea as 'A Star is Born' except instead of Kristofferson doing cool stuff like wrecking motorcycles, Bridges spends time hugging toilet, vomiting bile. The plot was weak, but Jeff Bridges was great, as usual. The dialogue had me laughing several times. It's worth a see, but the movie isn't what it could have been -- it's the story of an alcoholic rather than that of a country songwriter.

With all the five-star ratings, I was expecting a home run. Instead, I got over an hour of Jeff Bridges' character drinking, puking and passing out. How many bottles of whiskey and how many scenes of him puking in waste baskets and toilet bowls do we need to see before realizing this guy needs to get sober or he’ll die? Finally, near the end, after predictably hitting bottom, he decides to get sober, and we see him redeemed.
Crazy Heart is directed, written and produced by Scott Cooper. Always a warning sign that you're in for a self-involved movie from a "auteur" who is bringing the world his vision of great art. What you really get from this movie is the desire to get a drink or go to an AA meeting for some real entertainment.

I like Robert Duvall, and Jeff Bridges does some fine acting. Crazy Heart never shows any great moments of insight. It just seems to bumble along through happenstance and misunderstanding. Guided by that process it winds up in a differently dysfunctional place than it began in. Jeff Bridges is a natural. His acting seems effortless. He’s one of those gifted artists that give you the impression that the way he does a scene is the only right way it could have been portrayed. And Ms. Gyllenhaal is not far behind. She’s the perfect partner/inspiration for Bridges as he meanders through the lows and highs of life on the road. But the end of the film left me unfulfilled. It felt as if the writers couldn’t decide how to end the film and simply chose the best alternative they had. Don't let this stop you from seeing the movie. The great acting makes it worth the price of admission.

The acting was great & very real. I think the slow-build was important to the character development & believability. I would say that the story-line being "predictable" (as some reviewers said) was more realistic than something less expected--which would have been cheesy & less believable. The only time the acting wasn't perfect was with the little boy--and he was just so darn cute that it really didn't matter. This movie is not always "pretty"--but the ugliness is worth it. And Jeff Bridges is perfect for making a sometimes appalling character likable. Maggie was also fantastic and beautiful. I just ordered the soundtrack--out mid-month. (Old-style country, not the new junk.) Go see it--you won't be disappointed.

Bridges give a sterling performance as every broken down country has-been. His pain and self-loathing are evident from the start. We enjoyed the soundtrack as well as the intense performance. Unless you can't stand country music, the movie is a well done slice of life. Duvall and Farrell show they are more than "just" actors.

Jeff Bridges is really good as Bad! Pitch perfect acting throughout along with a great story that holds your attention. Predictable at times without feeling manipulative. The tale of a country singer that is living the life that is so often the subject of country songs about drinking, loving, leaving & coming home.

I have to see Tender Mercies, which I love, again to decide which is best. Then I'll have to see Crazy Heart again. And so on. Both feature talent and charisma abraded and humiliated (made humble), but not destroyed, by the country music life and then redeemed by an unlikely loving relationship. Tuning-fork perfect, understated performances in each, good music, and marvelous scenics that capture the quiet beauty of the southwest.

I was expecting much better. Story is mainly about an alcoholic. It is laborious, and the sound track and songs were mediocre at best.
