Jeff Bridges in Crazy Heart is amazing. It is an engaging story to begin with, but it feels like it was written for him and he carries the movie. Only Bridges can play the right combination of gritty and endearing - a man who is such a drunken miserable mess but so clearly wears his heart on his sleeve. The dynamic between him and Maggie G. was also spot on and entirely believable.

My wife and I found Crazy Heart to be the best movie we have seen since the Oscars last year. All the characters seemed REAL and Bridges gave the performance of a lifetime. Likewise, Gyllenhaal gives one of her best performances. My wife even commented that she was pleasantly surprised by Colin Ferrell's performance. Rather than his usual "bad boy" roles he is the coutry superstar who shows respect for his mentor Bad Blake aka Bridges. The story plays like a country song...failed marriages, drinking, son he never knew, etc. Outstanding movie!

I found this movie fairly entertaining. The fact that the actors (Bridges and Farrell) actually performed contributed a lot. Bridges did a very convincing job in his role as the washed up country singer, and I understand for some reason unknown to me young ladies are drawn to these kinds of characters. I also thought it was interesting that in the end, although he kind of got things squared around, he didn't win the girl back.

Loved Jeff Bridge's and can see why he could walk away with the Oscar but...and there is a but...the movie was slow and tedious at times and Maggie Gyllenhall, while a great actress was way too young for me to buy into the relationship. This is an excellent movie, deserving all the good things being said about it. Jeff Bridges is superb. While there are some smiles in it, it can be difficult to watch -- nothing wrong with the movie, it just tackles some harsh realities of life and does a fine job of depicting people going through them. You find yourself really liking and rooting for the characters, even as you suspect things might not all turn out the way they would like. And the music is both appropriate and very good. Well worth seeing, highly recommended, one of the very best movies of the past year.

This film is a refreshing departure from the usual over-produced, over-hyped, and often absurd fodder fed to us by the industry. It portrays real people and real relationships, ugly warts and all. I agree with the reviewer who states the main character's turnaround could have been explored and portrayed more in-depth, but this does not detract from the story's overall impact. While the concept of the human spirit somehow finding a way to rise above adversity has been played out countless times and in countless ways, it somehow never gets old. Sorry for rambling...great cast, great acting, great music--go see it.

This movie is my favorite movie of the year! It was so intimate, so moving, so emotional, so REAL. My husband and I loved it! And the music was great! Jeff Bridges did the performance of his career - he truly embodied the character, and it was heartbreakingly good. He truly deserves his Golden Globe for Best Actor, and will receive the Oscar too, I'm sure. All the actors were top notch and everyone was perfectly cast, but especially, Maggie Gyllenhaal, who should win Best Supporting Actress! Do not miss this one if you love great acting!

Amazing film for a 1st time Director. Brilliantly acted and wonderfully shot. Collin Farrel is the only criticism that i can come up with. his performance was a little weak, maybe even mis-casted.

Crazy Heart is one of the best films of 2009, with deeply felt performances by Jeff Bridges, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Robert Duvall, and Colin Farrell, and a very strong score of mostly new C&W tunes. A very likely candidate for Oscar nominations for Bridges, script, song and score. Outstanding small budget movie.
