Jeff Bridges was very good. Colin Ferrell...umm I guess, why not. The part that I just couldn't see past was how a 30 something Maggie Gyllenhaal would ever in a million years be caught dead with an old washed up looser like Bad. When will Hollywood ever stop pairing Grandfathers with with young hotties, and in this case a drunk, smelly ones like Bad? I couldn't suspend reality far enough to even begin to see how that would be possible! Those scenes were so awkward it was creepy in my opinion.

If you've ever loved an alcoholic, if you've ever been an alcoholic, or if you've ever hated an alcoholic ( let's see, that makes you about 1/4th of the US population) you should see this movie. They keep on keeping it real while holding on to hope. Bridges is the best & Gyllenhaal brings it out in him. Damn it was good.

I was drawn to the characters and, however, at an emotional level, I didn't get too much out of it. The "realness" of the storyline was compelling but the actual movie was a bit slow.

Jeff Bridges was wonderful - both acting and singing. At the beginning he was pathetic and disgusting but by the end you wanted to give him a hug - his pain seemed so real. Colin Farrell exceeded my expectations, Robert Duvall as always a treasure. Only complaint - Maggie G. is a great actress but really was too young. Hard to believe she would find the old lech he was at the get go attractive. Great story of redemption without the usual happy ever after

Rent and watch "Tender Mercies" with Robert Duvall and you will see where this movie and "The Wrestler" fall short of the mark. The script seems to steer clear of any deep exploration of the character's struggles. It instead settles for very simplistic explainations and solutions. Now he is an alcoholic, now he's not. Now he is a "has been" and now he's not. What the film does provide is a lot of shots of the main character smoking and drinking. It seems like the screen writer(s) know nothing about life or music and just try and fake it.

I didn't expect it to be very good. But, i was surprised at how much I l enjoyed the story. I expected a down and out singer to go through tough times and burn out. It was excellent acting and character development. A little speeded up in "real time" for the development of the love story and his addiction recovery, but a hopeful look at how people can reach bottom and turn their lives around. Good singing, songs and surprizing singing talent by Jeff Bridges and Colin Farrell.

Jeff Bridges was phenominal and Robert Duvall was solid. Maggie Gyllenhal's casting opposite Jeff Bridges was too improbable mostly due to the age difference. Their relationship was too hurried as was Bridges' stint in rehab. Now I want to read the book where these story lines can be more fully developed!

My husband and I both enjoyed this movie and the highlight is Jeff Bridges's acting. All the characters were realistic and good. Robt Duvall plays a very good friend. Music was just enough of the movie, not overwhelming. We enjoyed the songs and will look them up in I-Tunes.

Bad Blake (Jeff Bridges) is a country musician whose star has faded. Nowadays he occupies himself with drinking between crappy gigs. A budding journalist, single mom Jean (Maggy Gyllenhaal) asks for an interview and soon enough is romantically attracted to this too old, alcoholic, chain-smoking train wreck. That alone was too improbable for me. I am fans of these two actors, who put in good performances. I enjoyed Maggy Gyllenhaal's work more that Jeff Bridge's. She is radiantly, beautifully sweet. On the downside, the movie is slow, and its stages recover the same ground too much. Worth a viewing, but not a stellar movie.

I saw the TV interviews of Bridges and others. I saw the movie trailers. I heard about the Golden Globe award and the speculation about an Oscar. All this made me want to see the movie. What a disappointment. The movie was trite and tired. It was a cliche with a capital "C" about country music performers and the tragic lives they live. Why would Jeff Bridges and Robert Duvall agree to be in this movie? Yes, Bridges gave a stellar performance but that could not compensate for the weak story line.

This was a superb movie from every aspect. Bridges didn't act in this role, he lived it. One never had the feeling that he had rehearsed or studied for it. He was Bad Blake.
The supporting cast was great as well with Maggie Gyllenhall, Colin Farrell and Robert Duvall all turning in strong performances. Cooper did a great job directing and the camera work and cinematography were great. The sound track and singing were authentic.

This movie was terrific. Excellent acting by Bridges, Gyllenhall, Farrell and Duvall. Not very sentimental, no sappy lines and unrealistic happy ending. They both deserve their Academy nominations.

If you can get past the premise that a 27 yo hottie would fall for a pudgy, unkempt, alcoholic has-been, you'll love this film. If not, you'll think it was ok. Pretty decent character study of Bad, but little development of other characters. The ending is trite. Should've ended 5 minutes earlier.
Bridges' performance is stellar. Duvall steals his scenes. Gyllenhall hits her mark. Farrell not given much to work with. Bridges and Farrell can sing. And the music is pretty good.
Beautiful scenery adds much to the tenor of the film.

So refreshing to see a movie that is real life, not a bunch of super-humans who ride off into the sunset at the end. Jeff Bridges gave a superb performance. I read that Colin Farrell was not well-cast. Not true, the contrast between Tommy and Bad was so important. An actor's movie, they were all great.

The movie starts off with Jeff Bridges in front of a bowling alley... so that in itself made it awesome from the start if you're a Lebowski fan. This isn't the lovable stoner character, but rather a dark, real depiction of acoholism and the fickle nature of fame. The movie leaves you feeling incomplete. Not that the movie was incomplete, but rather YOU are after having watched it. However, give it a little time to sink in and you start to really feel the powerful "life goes on" message.
Take a friend, family member, or lover and go see Crazy Heart. The only thing I would suggest against is watching it alone.

This movie was our Valentine date pick. My husband and I had the same thought as we watched the movie. It was "The Wrestler" re- visited. Same story...same ending. Jeff's per- formance was good, but we liked him better as the Labowski lovable drunk.

A very moving movie that is so realistic of the struggles of life on the road and trying to make something of yourself in the music industry. It represents the difficulty of aging and seeing the next generation moving into the limelight and shutting out the older generation who has layed the ground work for them. Jeff Bridges became Bad. His performance was so believable and moving. This movie was made for him.
