I was disappointed by both Bridges and the movie. This was far from an Oscar performance. He had nothing to work with. And why is Jane in love with him? It doesn't add up to me. All i could think of was Kris Kristofferson without the great songs.

Jeff Bridges is pitch-perfect as the old washed-up, alcoholic country singer whose life is as sad as his songs. This is a terrific movie with Oscar-worthy performances by Bridges and Gyllenhaal. There isn't a predictable scene in the movie and I was mesmerized by the acting.

Jeff Bridges has always been a natural actor, but his thespian gifts and superb musicality have found a sublime match in the character of Bad Blake. The excellent soundtrack surrounds one of the most appealing film characters we've seen in a long time, albeit the story has been told in other variations before. Gyllenhaal is charming, and Farrell is commanding and musical in his limited screen time. Duvall kicks in a warm nostalgic ambience.

I'm not a fan of country music, but after watching this film, I'm going to get the CD. Music was wonderful. Jeff Bridges, amazing. My husband and I couldn't figure out the motivation behind the Jean character. Why would someone like her, with a 4 year old son, get involved with Bad Blake? Just didn't work. That story line was a bit of a disconnect, but shouldn't stop anyone from seeing this great, great film.

As mentioned by previous review..... the movie was somewhat predictable, but still directed well and extremely well acted. The director kept scenes from going over the top.

I enjoyed all aspects of this movie. Although the story is a bit predictable the acting is above average from all the usual suspects. Casting Colin Farrell as a country superstar seemed strange to me-but I still liked watching him! All in all a thoroughly enjoyable way to pass a couple of hours.

Thought the movie was excellent. Those who do not like country music may have trouble as there is much (all of it good) in the movie. All the actors were terrific. Bridges' best performance to date. Duvall enters late in the movie but is well worth the wait. A movie that explores the destructive power of alcoholism on the individual, his life and his relationships and the possibility of redemption. A fine, adult film.

Even though some of the movie is predictable, Jeff Bridges' performance is powerful -- he makes the character disgusting, pathetic, endearing and admirable all at the same time. Quite a feat.
