I'm a Nicolas Cage fan and I thought it was good, not great but good. They did add some humor to it which everyone in the theatre laughed. I didn't care for the ending just like I didn't care for the ending of Message in a Bottle but that is the story line. It's more symbolistic in violence than gory. Never was bored watching it.

This movie has some excellent visual effects. It was nice to see Nicolas Cage step out of his element by playing in a film with witches, demons, and swordfighting. Overall, great film with barely any cursing, so it is a PG -13 film that you could take a six year old to. Everyone should see this film, at a matinee price of course. I saw it for $5 Early Bird Special.

I am a huge Nicholas Cage fan, so perhaps I am a little biased, but I liked this movie. Does Nicholas Cage make a convincing 14th Century Crusader? Not so much, but the supporting cast along with the costumes and scenery did an adequate job of setting the tone. I initially expected that this movie was going to highlight the atrocities of medieval witch hunting, but surprisingly that was not the main focus. I probably should have paid more attention to the previews, but I figured at some point an escape attempt would be made and everything would end with some great revelation of the masses about equality. Although historically (and medically) inaccurate in many ways, I think the movie did a good job of capturing the overall tone of the time period. 1)The crusades reached a ridiculous point and many started to quietly question the amount of bloodshed. 2)Not everyone whole-heartedly believed everything the medieval church said. Nearly all of the characters questioned some part of the churches stance through out the movie. The dialogue was a little hard to stomach in a few places, and some of the faux-American accents were odd, but the acting was decent from some and excellent from others. Overall I would recommend this movie to anyone who has an interest in historical/action movies.

Definitely an entertaining movie; both my husband and I enjoyed it... it got creepy & 'dark" but it was not gory- good adventure. Nicolas Cage was very good - and Ron Perlman was a great sidekick.

Now to all you haters out there, this movie is not that bad. No it's not an epic masterpiece by any stretch, but it's still an enjoyable enough movie for those looking for alittle reality escape. It may not be historically accurate and they don't speak like the time, but truthfully do any of us really care. I thought we went to movies to have a good time not have a history lesson or not understand what's being said. I mean if you want that take a history class or call a customer service line if you want history or somone speaking bad english. All in all, this movie easily kept my attention and is good early morning movie when the prices are lower and that way if you don't like you didn't waste 10 plus dollars.

Supposedly financially strapped, Nicholas Cage is making a lot of B-grade films and yet all of them are better than the dreck Hollywood is pouring out.
Bangkok Dangerous, Knowing, Bad Lieutenant and now Season of the Witch, a diverting action/horror film that is as much psychological thriller and philosophical drama as anything else.
This has no right to be this good but it is Nick Cage and Ron Perlman who carry the film on their broad shoulders. It is scary and creep all the way through and the ending does not disappoint.
Four Stars.

The movie had a great beggining but it just lacked that extra push to be a good movie. Nicolas Cage is one of my favorite actors but I don't understand why he would want to do a role like this. His character never really was developed and the supporting cast was just mediocre and really didn't have a purpose. Nicolas Cage needs to stop playing himself all the time, or know that he is doing this so that he will limit himself to roles that are appropriate for him--medieval English he ain't, nor does he come across as so knightly noble. Gone are the days where some level of authenticity is not expected from all parts of the movie--the scenery, the costumes, and yes, the acting. Nicolas Cage isn't bad, he is just not good here. And this is even more apparent when Ron Perlman and the supporting cast so completely out shine Mr. Cage in acting ability. The movie itself has some cool effects, twists and turns, and some decent story lines--that is, to a point. I wish they wouldn't have gone the direction they did, because it seems to betray the title and the expectations the audience may have of the movie (was kind of hoping for some anti Harry Potter vibe, like Daybreakers was anti Twilight). Entertaining for the cheap&early matinee, won't miss much if you wait for the rental, and this definitely won't change anyone's opinion for the better of good old not so saintly Nick.
