Some really wonderful singers, music, but the first act was long and repetitive, the second act all depends upon your view of ballet - the third was very nice - tremulous singing.
I felt there should have been more interviews with cast and information about the opera before it started - what was given was very quick.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Renee Fleming was fabulous, both in singing and acting. Enjoyed the costumes and the ballet. The visuals were great. The movie was long,, since then we went to the evfening encore performance which started a 6:30 and ended around 10:30

Beautifully sung. Interesting, in the fact that six tenors are part of the performance.I enjoyed the presentation. Staging, in true Met form, was unique.
I would see this again.

Armida is not among my favorite operas, but some of the music is really beautiful, and the performances by Renee Fleming and Lawrence Brownlee (and the other 5 tenors) are top drawer. Armida is worth seeing if just to hear Fleming's heart-stopping coloratura.
Excellent staging, and the ballet was very entertaining.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Armida as newly produced by MetOpera was great. This performance really exhibited all that Armida has to offer, and it's odd it isn't more often produced and should be considered a classic. Some issues w/ the particular theater and performance - the video was out of synch and had lines scrolling (hardly high-definition), and sound from adjoining theaters was a constant nuisance.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Obscure for a reason

When a composer as famous as Rossini has an opera so obscure that few are aware of its existence, there is undoubtedly a reason. Yes, the opera is difficult to cast, but it is a plotless bore with by-the-books Rossini music (for the most part). That said, the singing -- especially by the two leads -- was spectacular. So here's my advice: find out when Act 3 begins and see that.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

The MET's production of Armida took viewers on a magical journey depicting the struggle between love and honor complete with high soaring, heart-stopping notes. Renée Fleming portrayal of Armida was breath taking. All actors excelled in meeting Rossini challenging vocal score. The orchestra was beyond reproach. While the staging and choreography in some scenes was a bit lacking, the beautiful ballet in Act 2 made up for it along with the staging in Act 3. Overall, MET Armida Encore was exciting, entertaining, and beautifully performed.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
