Excellent production! Watching it on HD and with close ups of actors, orchestra, etc. only enhances the experience, and the intermission interviews are another plus.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The Met HD Broadcasts are always delightful, and Hamlet was no exception. The opera has wonderful music, and was performed flawlessly. There is some technical glitch in the sound system that sometimes leads to a rumbling sound. It has occurred every tine I've attended, but only periodivally.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Never ceases to amaze me how The Met Opera HD Broadcasts are able to combine an appreciative and enthusiastic audience, neighborhood convenience, comfortable seating, excellent sound and visual clarity with the Opera's beautiful performances. Hamlet made for a wonderful and entertaining operatic experience. The unusual thing is that we never heard Thomas' music before but it sounded so very familiar.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I thoroughly enjoyed this French opera. Excellent performances, especially by the baritone Simon Keenlyside as Hamlet. He has a great voice and is riveting in this tragic role. The music, composed in the mid-1800's, is very accessible and melodic, though there are no memorable arias that you would hum on the way out.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Great production...opera on a movie screen in HD is a novel way to experience opera (as opposed to sitting in a theater). Close-ups enhance the performance - things not normally seen, even in a very close seat - and the shots of orchestra's performers and the conductor are normally never seen. The bits during scene changes and commentary/interviews by (Renee Fleming, this time) were also added bonuses. Keenlyside 'owns' this role - it will be interesting to see WNO's May performance of this opera and how it compares. Loved Petersen's Ophelie and the personal interactions (of all the players) - HD shows acting and allows you to see facial nuances which add to the singing and music tremendously. Don't expect Shakespeare here, however. As not-Shakespeare, it's a fine libretto. I didn't walk out humming any arias, but the "French" music of Thomas was melodious and pleasing. All in all, I enjoyed it. And the nearly $20 tickets (with various service charges added) were a far cry from normal opera seat charges. (Saw Simon Boccanegra as my first HD Met performance in Seattle with my sister, and appreciated their $2 reduction for students/seniors - AMC Hoffman in Alexandria has no such reductions. Bad. )
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Best opera experience I've ever had - the 2nd in a movie theater. There was an initial oddness about the format and media, but once I overcame that, it was excellent. Such an interesting opera. And to think that the first written version included a happy ending!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Having just seen this beautifully sung, acted, and played HD performance of Hamlet, it is hard to understand why it is so seldom produced. Long though it is, almost every moment is a treasure with rich rewards of pleasure. Though the story is so familiar, the libretto seldom uses Shakespeare's words, which, nevertheless is well-suited to the tale. This opera might be one that would change a person's whole feeling about opera. It was a wonderful almost four hours.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
