I saw Carmen a few times during my life. Different production and actors, singers. This one impressed me with quality of acting and singing, good decoration. After all it is MET. One thing that spoil the performance or I would say a copy of that, is distortion on the screen. Almost all actress and actor is unproportionally distorted width wise. Carmen should be a thin girl, same is Michaela. They are shown as overweight ladies. Jose is also short and wide in torso. Many dancers the same. It would be nice, if that defect of screen showing will be corrected. The music is as always stunning.

What a spectacular performance! I was so impressed with Elina Garanca's Carmen, and I thoroughly enjoyed Roberto Alagna's Don Jose. Both performers were much more engaging and emotional than performers I've seen in previous productions. I also commend Teddy Tahu Rhodes for performing Escamillo on 3-hours notice!

CARMEN was phenomenal, powerful, inspiring but...our movie theater was a disaster - omaha marcus midtown - newest theater in town - started performance 40 min late and showed it in BLACK AND WHITE!!! only the blue filter was working so i do not know what colors of carmen they chose! becasue they started late we were out late and this as already a 4+ hour performance. we will choose an alternate theater in town for the next production.

Great Opera, Great Peformances, Terrific Price. Add to that what are in effect the best seats in the house without all the travel and you've got a real winner. My only complaint is that it starts too early (6:30). The line starts forming much earlier and those of us who are employed may find getting seats together difficult.

My dad rated this as the best version of Carmen he's ever seen, and he's in his 90's. 'nough said.
Elīna Garanča (Carmen) and Roberto Alagna (Don Jose), were exquisite. Garanča dominated the screen. Alagna's high notes were crisp and clear as bells. The last minute replacement for the bullfighter nailed Torreodor but was shaky later in the program. Micaela was too old for the part, and her dress made her look dowdy. The staging, the singing, the orchestra, the costumes (how did that dress stay up as Carmen was being flung around in the last act?)-- superb. This is an opera production for non-opera lovers. The four hours simply flew by. Renee Fleming is a delight interviewing key members of the production during intermission.

This was the most believable, wonderful Carmen!! The passion, movement, and of course, singing, made the story come to life. The staging was interesting and different. The two pas de deux were beautiful. I would love to see it again and again. Just wonderful!!! Elīna Garanča was absolutely captivating. The perfect Carmen. And there was wonderful chemistry between her and Roberto Alagna.

This was the most electrifying experience I have ever seen. Elina Garanca had all the passion, tempesuousness and exoticness that one would ever want to see in this role. And yet, she still had a touch of humbleness that exuded when warrented. The entire cast performed to a level that went beyond what was called for.
livThe staging was phenonenol and the choreography was equal to anything one would see on Broadway - even saw a touch of Agnes De Mile in the pas de deux.
Seeing it in the movie house you can e with the expressiveness of the actors which one cannot see live sitting in the balcony of the Met. .

This magnificent performance again kept me spellbound. This time I could concentrate on the more technical issues: the incredible sound that the digital age is able to deliver to us, the "scenery"... the revolving stages, & above all the remote camera work that gives all of us attending this at theaters around the world the most FANTASTIC up close & personal views of a stellar cast. Bravo. I will be purchasing the DVD as soon as it's available.

A treat to see this Encore on February 3rd!
Watch Elina. She is going places. For others signing is a craft-for her just a way of breathing. She played Carmen with sensuality, sophisticated directness and a maturity disonant with her age. The rest of the cast were superb, particularly Roberto Alagna who played Don Jose. Yet, they were all overshadowed by her presence. The stage just lifted two octaves of energy when she entered!

I saw this production in the live telecast and then in the encore. It gets better and better! The nuanced acting of the principals is astounding, particularly when you consider that they are singing at the same time - with a full range of dynamics to match the emotion of the scene. This is THE definitive Carmen. I am hoping the MET produces a DVD of this production. SEE IT!
