Spectacular--Unlike some of the other critics on here, I thoroughly enjoyed the aerial camera shots of this opera. The chorus and individual performances were top notch--could not have been better. The two female leads--Liu and the Empress had exceptional voices. What an incredible experience to have seen this opera on the big screen. Almost as wonderful as being at the Met in person!

Absolutely fabulous. The ability to see opera from the finest opera company in the world right here is Seattle is a miracle. I'd swim 50 miles to see this.

Most of the opera is viewed in close-ups, so we miss the “big picture.” And the shots are constantly changing - I wanted to yell, STOP! The overhead shots are especially disorienting.

Last nites encore performance of Turandot was absolutely spectacular! Never having seen it before, we found this production not only visually exquisite , but totally wonderful to listen to. The voices were magnificent. The power required for some of the arias was there when needed. The softness, humor and pathos absolutely on key blending the entire story perfectly. We feel most privileged to have watched the premiere performances at the Met., by the leads who more than met the challenge of the roles. It was also delightful to meet some of the veteran performers and hear their backgrounds, as well as the young conductor also making his debut at the Met.

I love your live and encore presentations. No driving into NYC! Turandot is one of my favorite operas and thoroughly enjoyed this performance. If I may nit-pick, Calaf answered the riddles too quickly. I have the video with Domingo and he agonized. The intermission interviews are great along with all the backstage activity. Anxious for Hoffman, another favorite. Keep em' coming!

Turandot at the Met is best seen at the Met. But since I sit where the oxygen is thin this added a whole new dimension to seeing this fabulous production. Zefferali usually suffers at the hands of the critics, but then his productions survive for years (decades). Act two always provides a gasp when the lights go up. The cast was terrific. Maria had some problems in the low register but acted wonderfully and sounded much better than I expected. The convenience in travel, especially in winter months is a great plus. There had been several showings of the opera before the night we went and yet the theater was full. I don't think you find this size crowd for regular movies on a weekday night. Something for the powers that be to consider.

I'm actually interested in operas rather than orchestral or vocal virtuosity, so I'll leave it to others who know better to comment on the performances. The Zeferelli production was visually spectacular (one of the nice things about the MET generally is that they can afford to stage traditionally elaborate productions like this) and it's hard to imagine a better version of Turandot to see. I would certainly recommend attending a performance of this one. Much nicer than one of those spare modern things that serve mostly as a vehicle for some director's interpretive delusions. There was, however, one very annoying aspect of the HDtransmission/recording: obnoxiously busy camera work with no end of constant panning and zooming.

The Met operas on HD are superior entertainment. Turandot is not my favorite Puccini opera, but the spectacle created by Zefferelli cannot be beaten. Voices were also wonderful, It is so good to see opera where the movie stars fit the roles they are given. Not as in the old days, where a fat soprano was given the young girl in love role.

We had the same problem with the viewing of the opera. The Dish Network logo came on a couple of times with inappropriate music accompanying it. Most importantly, it came on during the beginning of Nessun Dorma. It wasn't only one theater....it was all of them. We viewed this in Clifton, NJ and had the same problems as the people in NY. In any case, it was our first Met opera performance and I loved it.

Excellent production and projection. Closeups and camera angles enhanced the experience. Mid week encore is better than having both showings on a weekend. No technical problems experienced here at all

Production was excellent as well as others I have seen this year, Aida. It is always sold out far in advance being shown. I would suggest that theaters have two screenings at the same time. It seems to be the only movie that consistently sells out in the middle of the week. That would make good marketing sense and would be more profitable that what they are doing now.

Probably the tenth Met movie I've seen--always wonderful, especially behind-the-curtain stuff and interviews, but I'd rather see the performance more as the audience at the Met sees it. I don't like close-ups of the dancers if you can't see their feet; the magesty of the sets is lost in constricted views of one or two principals; and the overhead shots straight down onto the stage are ridiculous. It's as if the directors are trying to create a new genre, when all I want is a relatively faithful version of the production as performed at the Met.

We enjoyed the opera and the artists we superlative. The intermission interviews and back-stage views were a real bonus. The presentation itself was spectacular and well worth the investment of time. However the venue we were at had poor sound quality at the beginning and considering the very (intentionally) dark presentation the ambient light in the theater was too high. The lighting was ultimately turned down but only after some time. It seemed to us that the theater operation should have been more professional considering the nature of the presentation. It is a premium cost "movie".

I saw both the actual and encore performances and enjoyed the encore just as much as the live performance. I brought a friend, a new comer to the opera, who is now a new opera fan. I believe, however, that encore performances would be better off shown on Sundays. It would be another wonderful day out for those of us who also enjoy encores and for those who work. A long Wed evening is hard on a working schedule no matter how enjoyable an evening. Bravo Met. Keep up the fantastic work. Now that I live in GA, I can't imagine not having this opportunity available.

I enjoyed this production of Turandot immensely despite the drawbacks of poor production on the part of the theater, Clearview Cinemas on 62nd and First in NYC. Despite the fact that this was an encore and thus not subject to the vagaries of satellite transmission, the video went out for a period in the first act. Twice an identifying computer screen blocked the singers until someone paid enough attention to remove it. The second time was during the main tenor aria, Nessun Dorma. Simply inexplicable and unforgiveable. I will be exploring other venues in the future.

I found the production to be very good and the singing was great. Unfortunately, the Clearview Theater at 1st and 62 st needs a new projectionist. All during the firstr act, the picture was centerred on the scrreen and the top of the picture was cut off. IN addition, the screen went blank for about five minutes while the sound continued. After numerouse complaints, the picture was centerred for the second act. However in botht he second and third act, another image was superimposed on the screen over the opera. Again after complaints, this was corrected.

The video broke down in the middle of the first act for about 3-4 minutes, and there was only terribly loud inappropriate music and the DISH logo. It made me leery of going to a similar production because the continuity was important. The presentation was otherwise superb.

Was absolutely wonderful!!....but a Wednesday night is just the wrong time. It was so nice when one could go to the Encore on Sunday afternoon. 3-4+ hours starting at 7 pm on a weekday night is just too much.....Please let the Met know or whoever makes these decisions, that Sunday afternoon was just right. Am wondering why it was changed.

Not everyone can go Saturday during the day and the encore was a good idea until they changed it from a wonderful Sunday afternoon to during the midweek. After working all day for operas lasting 4 to 6 hours when you have to get up early for work the next day really sucks! CHANGE THE ENCORE BACK TO SUNDAY. IT MAKES SENSE! AND FOR A WONDERFUL DAY.
