Excellent, excellent, excellent! I laughed, I clapped -- I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
Each singer performed with such gusto that I am convinced they all had a wonderful time on stage. The singing knocked my socks off!
I would love to see this performance again. Is there a chance it will be released as a DVD?
One drawback: The sound was so loud that listening was uncomfortable for me. I ended up stuffing tissue in my ears, and I still heard everything just fine. And, yes, a short intermission would have been nice.

This was a film from 2007, when they hadn't added all the features that currently go into Live in HD productions: no introductory spiel, no attempt to explain the plot beforehand, and most importantly, no intermission. All of this made me particularly appreciate the current Live in HD screenings. But the opera itself was stunning. Lovely production, good acting and marvelous singing.

The recording of this Met performance is absolutely flawless, but the presentation could improve: the AMC Burbank 16 was too cold (air-conditioned), the sound was much too loud, and there should have been at least a 10-minute intermission. Otherwise, an unforgettable experience!

The opera was great, ths singers fabulous... but ithe screen was dark all the way through, I wondered something wrong in the projection booth? indeed it turns out there was as the picture disappeared entirely nfor the last 5 minutes of the opera. Very disappointing

Exceptionally done performance....all the voices were excellent. Especially good and endearing performances by Mattei, Florez, DiDonato, Dr. Bartolo and the silent butler. The only critical comment is that there should have been an intermission....the performance lasted 2 hours and 40 minutes....a little long to sit through without the opportunity to get up and stretch, etc.

We really enjoyed the HD last night. We attended the performances this past year at the Century Theater in Walnut Creek and have really had a wonderful, exciting time hearing the world's greatest musicians perform. It has been an outstanding experience. We look forward next week to a performance of Mozart's "Magic Flute". I think the summer program should be expanded.

It was one of the Met's best and there have been alot of great HD presentations: great singers, a simple but effective stage setting, and excellent staging. Terrific. Two squawks: 1- The intermission should NOT have been omitted--too long for one sitting. 2- We missed the chats before the start and during the intermission--htose are a real plus in the live and normal encore performances.

Excellent. All singers played their parts beautifully, but we were especially taken with Peter Mattei's acting and singing. Two complaints: The sound was so loud that it distorted the orchestra's music, and became distracting when some arias were sung. This was at the Warwick, R.I. Showcase, but unfortunately there wasn't anyone to tell. The second is that there wasn't any intermission, and even worse, no warning.

This is absolutely the next best thing to being at the MET! The performance was wonderful, the theatre very comfortable, and we just loved it. Florez was amazing!! THe only complaint is there was no intermission and that would have been nice. Highly recommend live in HD broadcasts!

I've been to all the HD Met Saturday broadcasts, and I've loved them all. I didn't mind so much not having the featurettes for this performance (a repeat). But I did mind, very much, not having an intermission. It was very uncomfortable to sit for three hours, after dinner, without a break. Also, the sound track in the Mazza theater was exceedingly loud!

I thoroughly enjoyed this presentation from the Met. Having been to the Met , this is the next best thing---maybe better because it's more accessible and comfortable. The singers, especially Florez, were wonderful. Even I fell in love with him. Rosina was exquisite. I laughed and smiled throughout the whole opera. The acting was wonderful as well as the incomparable singing. The only minus was that there was no intermission, and I didn't want to miss a single second by leaving for the rest room so towards the end, I was a little impatient. However,it was a great experience.

The Met HD performances are usually great, but this encore performance had no intermission and gave no warning there would be none. WIth a running time of almost 3 hours, it made the last hour unenjoyable. And then the final 10 minutes the screen went dark - sound but no picture.
The theater manager was very helpful and gave us passes for another performance, but I would have preferred the usual 5 star experience of a Met HD film.

I had only seen one opera before, but I wanted to try this. It was wonderful! I absolutely loved it. You felt like you were right on stage with the singers. The performances were top notch. I would definitely recommend this to novice opera goers. (And there was an intermission, unlike in some other reviewers experiences). I can't wait to go again.

Most enjoyable music and singing, lively and active and humorous, but at times the stage was too dark. The film "ran out" so that the last ten minutes or so of the production was missing. A rest-room break between the two acts would have been appreciated.

This was my first experience with the Met at the movies. I loved it! I've attended the Met Opera House many times and I have to equate this event to attending the Kentucky Derby or a USGA Open. Rossini's manic genius tempos are displayed perfectly. Peter Mattei shows he has a BIG voice I haven't heard since P. Domingo. Florez as Count Almaviva is uneven, sometimes very good, once even atonal. Joyce DiDonato delivers an iconic Rosina.
This is worth seeing. Anyone with a smidgeon of consciousness would be engaged (stunned, maybe) immediately by Mattei's "Figaro"

We very much enjoyed the Opera. Juan Diego Diorez did a wonderful job.
It was eye opening to be able to see an opera so close up. I cannot afford close seats when seeing live opera so being able to see facial expressions was a treat.
The costumes were absolutely beautiful and the set design was intriguing and fluid.
The theatre in Colorado we were at had the sound much too loud when first started, after enough complaints they finally turned it down.
I would have liked the credits to roll a bit slower so I could have actually read them.

Oooh, what can I say. Juan Diego Florez in top form, Rossini at his best, on the big screen. That is heaven. This entire opera was wonderfully cast, the sets were amazingly simple and yet gave the impression of complexity. The only problem was that there were so few Inland Empire residents in attendance and the sound was set for a full theater. That made it too loud. I would never have believed that a Rossini opera could be too loud but the kids running the theater should learn that when the crowd does not show up, they should turn down the volume. Otherwise, superb cast, heavenly voices, gorgeous costumes and our little group enjoyed it thoroughly from the 11 year old girl to the 76 year old woman.

While no substitute for a live opera, the film was terrific. The only problem was painfully loud sound at the beginning. Thankfully this moderated as the performance went on. Il Barbiere di Siviglia started 15 minutes late (probably a problem with a storm and finding the satellite signal)and when it came on the sound was so loud that the entire audience had their hands covering their ears. After 10 minutes of searching for a theater manager we finally got the sound turned down. If this happens again we'll all requesting a refund!

A treat to view. My only gripes are that the sound was a bit too loud and there was no intermission. Figaro was delightful--great singing and acting. You couldn't help but love him. Likewise with Lindoro.
This performance was a pleasure.

Wonderul performances from Juan Diego Florez & the entire cast. However, at our theatre in Emeryville, CA, the screen was very dim throughout the opera. We learned afterwards that 2 bulbs were burned out in the theatre's projector. Also, the screen suddently went completely dark during the last few minutes and during the curtain calls and credits. The theatre gave us a re-admit pass to see a future movie.

Having just watched the Mets rebroadcast of Barber we were elated...and confused. Elated because of Florez and Di Donato and the Bartolo (who's name escapes me). I've never heard anyone sing the role as well as Florez, amazing. Di Donato was brilliant as was Bartolo. The Figaro faked his way through a lot of the aria and the Basilio was a superb voice, which was miscast in the comic role, but enjoyable. The tempi were at break neck speed. I liked the walkaround in front of the pit as an effort to bring some small house feel to a big house, but the effect of the 'doors' was small budget. Not what you expect in a Met production. Overall, Florez and DiDonato were worth the price of the tickets.

The movie itself was fantastic, The opening credits, however, were truncated and then rushed. The curtain calls were not shown at all (totally dark screen), but the applause sound was and the theater remained dark.
