As with all the Met productions I've seen in HD, this one did not disappoint. Rossini's music, the staging, everything was up to the usual Met standards. I was disappointed in the attendance, however. Most broadcasts during the season have nearly sold out theatres where I live; this one had perhaps a dozen people. A dozen very enthusiastic and appreciative people, but still only a dozen. I hope this doesn't discourage the theatre from airing future performances.
On a very negative note, much of the performance was ruined for me because the volume was turned so loud that the voices were distorted.

I attend live performances which is the ideal way to enjoy musical presentation. But due to budget, a compromise to accept an opera movie version turned out to be a real treat, pleasure and joy. In all details this film is treasurable for the uniquely expressed art which interprets in a genius manner the already genius composition and libretto that is found in "Il Barbiere di Siviglia". Beauty of voices and exquisite abilities of singing and acting by the leads combine with strong interest-sustaining direction, scenery, lighting and costuming. The MET orchestra splendidly played and efforts of all participants produced a sensational production worthy to remind us that only in freedom will capability of love be lived and joyously succeed.

This Barber of Seville was the best I've ever seen--twice! (I saw original HD performance also. I really miss the enjoyable intermission features.) Each voice was a joy, the humor infectious, the interactions, the stage "shtick", beautifully done. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening, except for no intermission. That is too long for mostly seniors to sit without a break! At this theater, the sound was just a tad low, probably because people had complained of loudness in the past. I suggest all the theaters that show these operas should check the sound at the beginning. Keep these operas coming!!!

I LOVED the production! Casting was right on target. Producton was funny, characters were both eccentric and lovable, singing was breathtaking, and comic timing was perfect. Juan Diego Florez did an exceptional job, with both comic and romantic roles. I left theater feeling wonderful. There were some hiccups in sound transmission and volume in theater was too loud. But it was still excellent. I would highly recommend it to friends.

Excellent singing, orchestra, acting, well filmed. And of course it's a gangbuster opera in the first place. The loud singing sounded a little clipped in places, suggesting the volume was too much for the speakers. Florez as Almaviva was amazing, the others were merely excellent. I am glad we didn't have a 40 minute intermission as with the live operas, but 10 minutes would have been nice.

Anything The Met lays its artistic hands on looks and sounds like the masterpiece it is. This is my 1st Met HD Live experience, I hope for many more. I liked it without an intermission, the continuity was a nice idea I did not realize I liked. The artists, costumes & sets were beyond belief.

I would give this opera a 10 rating if I could. The voices were fantastic. And one was Kansas City's own! Too bad the picture didn't fit the screen. Heads were cut off, Feet weren't there and ............. guess what .......... no subtitles. Regrettably, anyone seeing it for the first time missed the humorous subtlties and puns. But thanks for the free pass for next week's opera!

It's a Tour de Force. The Met outdid itself in the presentation of this joyful and beautiful opera. Diego Flores was outstanding, singing beautifully and with much feeling. La Calumnia by Don Basilio was fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed The Barber of Seville. I agree that the sound was way too loud at the beginning of the presentation and it was abruptly lowered at one point. But, I assume that was Cinema error.

Was surprised there was no intermission as it is a long opera and I was used to the break that occurs during the live presentations. The sound at first wasn't the best, but either it improved or I adjusted! A wonderfully talented cast-lots of laughs and a truly joyful time!

This is the third time for this performance for me. Once at the Met, two in HD. It just gets better and better ( although it's the same!) I agree that the sound has to be worked on - it was turned up too much. Also an intermission would have been welcomed ( we get one at the Met, for crying out loud) for people to use the bathroom. ( And don't theaters want to sell drinks?) It would have been a wonderful "starter" opera for someone who had never been. As it was, it was the best tonic for the summer blahs! Thanks JDF and Joyce!

The HD part was great. I'm very glad I brought earplugs, since the soundtrack was TOO LOUD. AMC Friendship Hts (Wash, DC) staff turned the sound down slightly, which kept me in the theater with earplugs. Otherwise, the sound was painfully loud & distorted.

I have recommended the Met broadcasts to everyone I know. They are fabulous and this one was no exception. The sound is wonderful, the staging is spectacular, the orchestra is one of the best in the world, and, of course, the music is so beautiful that it almost brings tears to your eyes. Barber was a delight with some very fun comic moments. I highly recommend the entire series. Next year's season is terrific.

An outstanding production.Staging was pure artistry . How can you not like a opera with Florez, but that does not lessen the talent (acting and singing ) of the whole cast. Having seen several productions of Barber over the years in different cities and with different casts, I have to say this performance was one of the liveliest and best. I would echo the person who mentioned the need for an intermission (we'd have had one in the opera house!!) and would add that the sound quality was wonderful. That was my fear about seeing an opera in a movie theater, but there was no need for concern. Great experience!!

Alerted by email, we went last night to see the Barber of Seville. Extremely enjoyable as all HDs are. Yet, this was an edited version, were the intermission, including its features, was omitted. That really put our bladders to the test! You must be aware that many in the HD audiences are seniors. For them, 2 hours and 50 minutes without a break are hardship. I would much prefer prolonging the screening by 20 to 30 minutes to enjoy the intermission and its features. Looking forward to next week's Magic Flute at 1 hour and 55 minutes.

We took our grandchildren to experience opera for the first time and they love it. They got lots of laughs and they loved the music. We had a box at the Met many years ago and I found we saw much more in HD than being there.

A wonderful, wonderful performance. Unfortunately, there was something wrong with the print we saw at the AMC Theater at the Garden State Plaza in NJ: Everything was very dark, sometimes to the point where one couldn't recognize a singer's face, even with the spotlight.

Brilliant job all around. One request: for $12.50, how about including a 1-page program/plot summary/souvenir?
Can't think when the last time was that my mother-in-law could focus on one thing for 3 hours. She was completely locked into the show and didn't even mind the lack of an intermission!
Let's have more of these encores, especially since some of us can't do Sat. afternoons. Oh, and to my fellow audience members: even if it's a rerun, you can applaud!

Wonderful Barber of Seville. It's so great to be able to see opera on the large screen--it doesn't have to be the live simulcasts (though of course they are amazing). Making opera affordable is the best thing that could have happened to opera. And there are very talented people working in it now.

Funny, beautifully sung and deliciously acted! The production itself, especially in the storm scene, was spectacular. But the sound at the AMC Empire 25 in Manhattan was too loud, especially in the range of the tenor, whose voice became distorted at times, which is too bad because Florez has such a superb voice. Also, at one point, there was a problem with the projection, causing a stuttering effect for several minutes until loud clapping by the audience finally aroused the attention of the projectionist, who then played back at least part of the missed scenes. Definitely worth seeing, but perhaps at another theater, where the sound is not kept at rock concert level.

Three of us, new to opera, loved this broadcast. The voices were fabulous, and we felt like we were at the opera! We loved the little out-take behind the scenes, but we also would have liked a little intermission. We will definitely look for more of these broadcasts to attend. We just happened to hear about it from a co-worker. Perhaps a little more advertising would help. Our theater was about half full.
