This movie was a major dissapointment. It showed beautiful scenes of Cairo but we kept waiting for a plot. There was nothing, zero plot. When we walked out I muttered to my wife how boring the film was and the entire row of movie goers all shook their head and said thyey agreed. It was so predictable and tacky. Watch Discovery Cannel on Cairo but save your money. The acting was awful and this film was so hyped up.

The director seems to imagine she is fashioning a modern-day Jane Austen narrative and If Juliet were presented as having the slightest redeeming characteristic, one might actually be persuaded to care about her, but she lacks wit, charm, spunk, intelligence or knowledge. The film also lacks the slightest knowledge of middle-east culture. We are asked to believe the sophisticated wife of a career UN official doesn't know enough to cover her head and legs when she walks about unescorted and is surprised she is accosted. Sentimental drivel.

This subtle story, quietly told was beautiful. And as one who lived in Cairo for many years I felt that the city was really the 3rd main "character". The depiction of the city and of the way people interact was spot-on and such a joy for us. Patricia Clarkson was excellent in the part.

Patricia Clarkson was captivating in such a beautiful, sensual and almost silent manner. She has this manner of communicating with the audience/camera that is subtle yet profound and alluring. I found her presence on the screen to be comforting, soothing,calming...she has such a peace about her...a comfort in her own skin. This plot had such beauty and depth. Some will not appreciate the quiet contemplation and non verbal communication between the two main characters. I found it to be intoxicating....this wouldn't have happened without the beautiful Patti Clarkson.

Beautifully cast, excellent character depictions & story, made me want to visit Cairo immediately (despite its evident problems). Clarkson deserves an Oscar nomination & Siddig was great, too. Woman arrives in Cairo alone, expecting to meet up with her husband who works for the UN but was called to Gaza. She is on her own, waiting for him to arrive. She is a "mensch," thrown into a situation she wasn't expecting. My husband was equally crazy about the film. Loved the music but unfortunately it seems that the soundtrack doesn't include the Egyptian music that was part of the film.

I found this movie disjointed, the plot implausible and the characters one-dimensional and unanimated. I like the actors very much, but the story felt forced, these two had nothing to say to one another. I understand that the film was supposed to be subtle, but this was ludicrous, no emotions other than her crying near the end, very superficial film that I was disappointed in the results.
