Storyline - just ok. Typical "evil American government cover up blah blah blah", but Mel made it watchable and emotional. He's really a fantastic actor - very believable! Without Gibson in this movie, it would have been crap.

It's been some eight years since we've seen Mel on this side of the camera and it has been worth the wait. While some may find the rather "British" character and plot development somewhat slow, it works to create an intricate and plausible portrait of a desperate father. A pleasant surprise was Ray Winstone's portrayal of a black-ops cleaner. His performance alone would have made the film worth the price of the ticket.

I thought Mel Gibson was great in his portrayal of the crushed and vengeful father. It had alot of violence and blood, however, that was part of the storyline. Parts were predictable, but on the whole if you are a Mel Gibson fan, it's a must see. Can't wait to see his next movie-would like to see him do a classic western story. Would be a great traveling preacher going from town to town and of course meeting up with the "bad guys" along the way!

Boy was I surprised!! "Edge of Darkness" is a much more gripping Suspense Thriller then the trailers advertised. Think Corporate coverup, dirty CEO, Bad Scentists, A US Senator in your hip pocket, the smell of death and you have "Edge of Darkness". Mel Gibson is back on the big screen after an 8 year absence. He plays Detective Thomas Craven who investigates his daughter's murder and during this investigation a lot comes to light. Not a tremendous amount of action as originally thought, but there is a tremendous amount of suspense and very bloody. Things are not what they seem. Mel Gibson once again plays crazy and out of control. The movie tends to drag and is slow at times, but "Edge of Darkness" is worth seeing.

My wife and I both were very disappointed by this film. The characters were shallow, the acting was wooden; Gibson's panting gasping show as his daughter died was note for note from Lethal Weapon days. The whole thing seemed... uninvolved by everyone. The actors were just reading lines. The screenwriter was recycling cliches. The director just let it all sit there. I never felt involved or compassionate or anything other than bored. We rarely get to the theater anymore; both my wife and I regretted this choice for our once every 6 months movie.

Edge of Darkness has some holes in it. At times it is too predictable. Some of the supporting characters are playing roles we have seen them play before. All of that said - this is a film worth investing 108 minutes with - if only for Mel Gibson's portrayal of the main character. He feels real, vulnerable, angry, contemplative, sad, confused and all of the complex and subtle emotions that a loving father would be over the sudden, violent death of their twenty-something daughter .... and Mel does it well ....very well indeed! An impressive performance by Mel Gibson!

An Intriguing plot about a government cover-up kept the movie interesting for me. Mel Gibson does a competent job of losing control as he uncovers information about his daughter’s murder. There’s not much here that we haven’t seen before, but it’s artfully done and I found it intriguing enough to be entertained.

The final words Mel says in the preview for this movie are roughly : "Are you the person being nailed to the cross or are you one of the people pounding in the nails". (I think he was nailing some bad guy to a wall as he said that line.) I saw the previews during the movie Law Abiding Citizen which was just the rehashing of the same story line. The auidence booed and hissed at his never ending Christian-Supremists extremism. And he's looking really strung out. Let's face it: When the auidience is booing the preview to the movie.....
