There was such a mixture of genres that it turned me off. It went from suspense, to gore, to spiritual to a mess. Pick one and go with it. The Boston accents came and went and were horrible and at times difficult to understand. The movie wasn't that compelling just filled with scenes that make you jump. Not worth seeing.

For me personally, the ongoing connections between father and daughter penetrated my exterior shell and were heartfelt. No where near as good as Martin Campbell's 1985 original for the BBC. That version starred the late Bob Peck as Craven and Joe Don Baker as Jedburgh. May have lacked the advanced special effects but it had more sinister undertones and didn't star the useless Mel Gibson. That said, if you haven't seen the original and you can put up with Gibson, it's worth seeing if there's nothing else on.

This one was all about Mel's character's pain, and I wasn't feelin' it. He plays a not particularly clever Boston cop unable to thwart this corporate conspiracy in an intelligent manner, so the guns come out—getting a number of innocent people killed along the way. Audaciously, he pretends his daughter endorses this mad bloodshed.
Overall a competent film and Mel's clearly doing his best, but nothing we haven't seen before.

Unbelievably slow after the opening scenes; Mel looks ancient (although, granted, part of that may have been designed to make him look bad). Occasional action scenes, which are what make Gibson a box-office draw, but not enough to overshadow the interminable plotline (The Government's out to deceive you, The Government will kill you if you attempt to thwart The Government's plans, blah, blah, blah). Can't recommend it, unless you just want to see how old Mel Gibson's gotten.
