I think the movie have a good message, and clear ideas, very good actors, but it was slow. Too many long scenes of people just thinking, maybe is good once or twice on the movie, to make the a point very important, but not every 10 minutes in the movie. Anyway, I like the movie, but the viewer must be in a good mood to see a slow movie.

I knew nothing about Channel except that I had bought my wife a bottle of Chanel "Coco" perfume as a stocking stuffer once. Very educational and enjoyable - certainly off thebeaten path, and that's a good thing. Audrey Tatou was great!

good: performances, cinematography, accurate period setting.
bad: waaay too slow, bad subtitles (both in terms of the translation and the fact they are poorly done in post production - from left to right, they went down an approx. 20 degree slope).
average: everything else.
if you are dragging someone to a foreign film, pick a different one, or that person will never agree to go, again.

What an absolutely stunning film, beautifully acted, shot with considerable effect for the time period. I found it to be paced perfectly, in that foreign language subtitled films are not my greatest skill, this was so well acted that often I had no need to read and knew perfectly well what the dialogue exchange was all about.

I love foreign films and and I speak some French but the subtitles for this film seemed to go by more quickly than I'm used to. Otherwise, it was a charming film.

Beautiful images, moments and actors, Audrey Tautou seems perfectly cast for the role. It is not a grand masterpiece as some people seem to expect it to be and it is more romance story than an in-depth examination of Chanel's vision, ambition and inspiration... but so what. I enjoyed watching it and felt inspired by it.

Amazing acting, beautiful scenery and photography, but really nothing worth a movie. Turns Coco into a sad, weird woman who spent her life pining after lost love. Tries hard to show us where her early fashion inspiration came from, but doesn't really succeed. Very bland, slow moving. Too bad. Could have been a wonderful subject for a movie--an inspirational one, not one that focuses entirely on her feelings and long rides in carts, buggies, and cars. Too bad!
