good points: emotional, cute, I like the fact that the lead girl isn't "hollywood beautiful" and that made for a more believeable character.
not so good point: Wow... did they change the story from the book. What the heck?? The villian (Marcus) wasn't even a big part. And the whole dad/friend/fire thing??? I think if I didn't read the book I would have thought the movie had MANY holes in it to leave the viewer wondering what happened in many situations.

I enjoyed the movie, but the book is 100x better. The movie left out too much. I wish they would have kept to the story line; the preacher and the cause of the fire, the father boarding up the piano, more about Blaze, etc. I think the best acting in the movie was done by the little brother. He was spot on and really showed his emotions the best.

This is RMachi's wife writing this review. I was excited about this movie because I really enjoyed the book. While I thought the movie was OK, I was dissapointed that much of the storyline was different than the book and in addition, much of what was in the book (including a character that seemed important to the storyline) was left out completely. While I would recommend this movie to a friend, I overall felt that instead of spending $11.50 to see it at the theater I should have waited and rented it. I'm glad I read the book, it was much better than the movie.

For those of us that read the book, there were many important aspects left out that would have made the movie much more emotionally grabbing, such as the preacher wasn't shown at all, the part were Blaze catches on fire was left out, it never tells that Will feels he owes Scott for saving the lives in the car crash, and several of the date scenes between Ronnie and Will which were very cute were left out. It was still a very cute movie, and the end still made me cry, but it could have been much better. I was not impressed with Miley's acting, I think there are other actresses who would have done a much better job, but since the book and movie were written just for her, what can we do?

Great movie with so much emotion. Teaches the old tale that life is too short to live it hating and being mad all the time. In this movie you see the emotional journey of becoming a young woman who can really feel and live once her attitude gets adjusted. I loved the scences between Miley and Liam. They are hot together. Their chemistry shows right thru the screen.
Everything about it was awesome. I saw it with my 11 year old daughter and her friend and then went back by myself to see it again!
Go see this movie. You won't be sorry! Take tissues though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Miley Cyrus did better than I expected, but both her and Liam Hemsworth were lacking some depth to their characters earlier in the film. Once the more serious stuff started happening, it felt a lot more real and I was able to really get into the plot, but the first section made me feel like I was watching Hannah Montana. Cyrus' and Hemsworth's acting has potential, but still needs some work. Besides that, the movie was very cute and something I would watch again.

I must admit this movie was better than I expected. I am of the belief that the movie should follow the book, but in this case it was a very good movie. Had my doubts about Miley Cyrus playing Ronnie but she did good. Both my daughter and myself enjoyed the movie. One hundred time better than Dear John. I love Nicholas Sparks novels it is just when they make them into movies they for the most part lose a lot of the character I love in the book. I give this movie 2 thumbs up.

WOW! This movie is a keeper and MUST HAVE DVD!! Don't be fooled by the beginning to mid of the movie that is the typical parent/teenager issues, boy meets girl story and some teenage drama,,, BUT before you know it,,, it HITS you in the HEART and the tears will be non-stop to the end! I took my two daughters, ages 12 and 16 to this movie and they pronounced it "the best movie ever!" I wouldn't go that far but it was more enjoyable than I thought it would be. Miley Cyrus is just okay as an actress but I do love Greg Kinnear and Miley's love interest, Liam Hemsworth, isn't too bad in the acting department and very easy on the eyes. I didn't read the novel that this movie is adapted from but the story line was easy to follow. Not a bad way to spend some time with your pre-teen and teen girls but the boys will hate it - too mushy!

The author wrote the screen play before the book, so I think that is why it seems like so many details were left out. When writing the novel he was able to expand on his ideas that he had in the screen play. The details in the book were so much better, however the movie was good.

It was a typical Nicholas Sparks movie. It made you laugh, cry and everything inbetween. Maybe not as detailed as the book but very close. Nice to be able to take my mom and my daughter and not have to be embarrased by sexual content or language. We all loved it!!!

some major parts were left out and i was very disappointed. i did like this movie though

My wife read the book and said that quite a bit of substantial plot was left out. It seems like they ripped up the book, taped up the pieces, and called it a movie script. Miley's character is introduced as one of the most annoying characters I have ever seen in a movie. The old "I'm a teenager and I'm mad at the world" role. I was hoping someone would smack the attitude off her face. This movie seemed to have no direction and went from one of Miley's fights to another. The viewer isn't given a reason why they should care one iota about the plot. Miley, who apparently needs some serious dental work, seems to be bipolar in this movie and could use some acting lessons. Kinnear's greatness, and the fact that the 2nd half of the movie just about made up for the awful 1st half, was the only thing keeping me from giving this 1 star. I guess it is meant for a certain demographic and you will know if you are in it or not. I just went along as a favor to the wife :)

This movie took off very slow but picked up half way through and became enjoyable, however shortened too much I thought.. Some of the things that made the book a great book i.e. some of the messages and the emphasis on faith were totaly left out. They were what made the book great and what diminished the movie. Leave it to Hollywood to take out the things that mean the most to most of us just to satisfy the PC crowd. In the end I enjoyed it and would recommend it.

The screenwriter did a great job relating to the novel and casting was right on. Overall, this is a wonderful movie and I highly recommend it to everyone!
